Because 90% of the items have been tenners or just over which you wouldn't worry about too much if they did go missing, I am no expert on Ebay or postal services. Hopefully this will turn out well but why you have got the 'ump so much is beyond me, I can only think you have eben on the receiving end or been knocked by someone on there before.

As for the part where you say 'Terra, why the last sentence if the "man behind the counter" was not of a different ethnicity?', have you always been able to clearly understand every single accent you have come across? Talk about Mr PC. You come across as a right know it all, shove yer accusations where the sun don't shine, not wanted here...!

Why would you have needed to spend an extra £15? you could have just paid the 70 odd pence for recorded delivery, it wouldnt insure you for the full amount if it was lost but it would show if it was delivered or not.

Saying that arent you just getting worked up over nothing? nothing has happened yet, not all buyers on ebay are scammers.

For future reference use https://www.parcel2go.com or any other of the many resellers, you can get a DHL pickup and delivery for £8.39

I've just shown you how easy it is to find postage info. If it was really difficult, I wouldn't just run out and post it willy nilly - then start crapping myself on a forum. I would find out.
As for being pc, not really. I just have a simple method if I don't understand someone. I ask them to REPEAT it.
To be clear. If it goes pear shaped, it is your fault. Not the Post office, not the man behind the counter, not the buyer - yours.

Anyone would think I'm a murderer or something! I am not blaming anyone else, I knew after I sent it that I probably made a !!!! up, all I was doing was coming on here to find out what my options were IF it did go wrong.

I know full well I would probably have to refund the buyer but in my OPINION it would SURELY be the Postman's/office fault if it did go missing. I paid for a service and expect it to be completed.

Before you say 'but it's your job to make sure they receive it' I say b0llocks. I have paid the Post Office a fair bit of money (in postage terms) and expect it to arrive there. I know I am going on about something that hasn't even happened yet but I can't let you get away with such stupid comments.

Opinion and fault matter not. The seller must deliver the item, and show online proof Ebay/Paypal. If you don't, then you claim from your cop, which is £41.

Say b0llocks if you like, but it doesn't change the facts.

You say you aren't blaming anyone else? You are if you expect Royal Mail to cough up when YOU don't take the correct service.

I hope it works out, but I wonder if you will learn for the future?

RM covers up to £2500,how high do you want?

I meant for a reasonable price - I sent a laptop next day delivery with £800 of insurance for £12 through a courier. How much would that have cost me with the RM?

    eBay isnt for you
stick to gumtree and cash on collection
  • My tuppence worth is that the OP clearly isn't sure of Ebay. Myself - I use the RM online pricefinder to check the postage before i add the cost to ebay. Not difficult and as Macfly has pointed out takes a few seconds online, Likewise using the couriers sites.

Amazingly all this fuss and the items not been reported as lost yet!

Though is the buyer's even remotely dodgy seeing a £150 item posted standard first class will set the old pound signs going!

When's all said and done i do hope the OP takes the advice of the posters and gets clued up on postage before listing anything else :D

I ALWAYS check the Royal Mail postage finder. I can tell you now sending say a dvd is 96p first class, or was last year anyway. I looked up First class for this item but dont have anything to weigh it. So could only go by an example. Silly I know but I estimated it the same as a power drill or thereabouts, around 3kg. It turned out to be nearer 5kg but when I found this out it was too late, the post office was about to close and I only had £15 on me.

Yes I know it's my fault not getting Insurance, but having hardly ever selling expensive things on ebay, I forgot all bout Special delivery etc. If I was just seeing sound signs, why wouldn't I put Special Delivery on the item in the first place and charged the buyer extra for this service? I wouldn't lose out then. After all, I predicted the cost wrong, charged £7 delivery but paid out £11 something. So straight away I've lost out on nearly a fiver.

It was a simple mistake, I do have a baby on the way, a new job and a mortgage and bills. Selling something on ebay isn't my main priority. As for the 'fuss', what fuss is that? I post quite often on this site as it's saved me quite a few quid. I thought I'd ask what my options were if worst comes to worst. Some helpful posters did this for me, others have tried to make me look like some sort of conman for some reason.

Still, with no hassle at all and 54 (I was a bit far off at 70) 100% feedback, I'm hoping the buyer is honest and the Post office do their job. Ok I posted it in the 'wrong' way but for over 11 quid you'd expect them to do their job and delivery the item, whatever rubbish the likes of mcfly come back with.

Well Mcfly and others will be happy to know that after three days the package still hasn't (apparently) arrived. I may be able to get the same item again and send that, not that it helps me in any way really.

Where do I stand with postage fees etc? Obviously this time I will send it Special Delivery if the woman still wants it. Do I have to pay out another 20 odd quid to send it or what?

I have spoken to the woman that bought it and she seemed friendly enough . I told her the truth as if she's gonna 'thieve' it she will do anyway.

Where do I stand? Its a heavy package travelling from London to the north but at first class it would surely have got there by now. Have to take it on the chin but the real guilt should lie with the Postman that nicked it or the buyer if she has actually received it and says otherwise
