Sent an item First Class on Ebay -Insurance...

Hello all, I posted an item yesterday which sold for £150. Sent First Class as it was an extra £15 to send Special Delivery (those were the only options mentioned).
I haven't had a problem yet after selling 50 odd items on Ebay but I am worried as checking online it seems that you get no compensation if the item goes missing if you 'only' send it First Class.
It cost me 12 quid to send it FC as it is. My worry now is-
I'm not saying either will happen and I should have thought about it more and paid the extra for Special Delivery but it's too late now. I only charged the buyer £7 for delivery in the first place.
If anyone has been in the same position what did you do/claim? Obviously I hope it doesn't come to that but I am a bit worried now. If I end up losing the item AND having to pay the seller the money back! What exactly does the proof of postage receipt cover?!
Thanks

- What if it does go missing, will I definitely get NOTHING, despite having a proof of postage receipt and paying by card in the Post Office?
- What if the person pretends they didn't receive the item?

If it is lost you can only claim up to £41 with 1st class. I'd keep my fingers crossed it turns up!0

What a nightmare if it does go missing!
Even more worrying is if the buyer receives it, then claims they didn't and I have to refund them. No way I could prove otherwise.
I am worrying early anyway but I know with my luck lately that it probably won't turn up or something...0 -

I dont think that is right.
I think that if you failed to send the item with the correct insurance (an Item worth more than £41 not sent special delivery) that you will not be able to receive any compensation. (That is what I have been told)
OP, just wait, there will be probably nothing to worry about.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I don't think I receive anything if it does go missing, from what I have read. I am not overly worried but money is very tight at the moment and this is all I need, especially nervous as the item is from London to Leeds.
Nothing is stopping the woman that bought it from saying it didn't arrive... The only thing is the buyer has a good feedback and it seems it was sent to some sort of computer shop which I have checked online, just hope they aren't a wrongun!
Can I just add that I only offered First Class standard and I as mentioned kept my postage receipt. They never asked for insurance or any other way of posting so would I definitely have to refund the buyer?0 -

It is my clear understanding that any item posted in the UK is covered for up to 100 times the current price of a normal first class stamp. This is regardless of the cost or type of postage used. You do however have to be able to prove that you posted it.
You don't magically lose this cover when an item is worth £42 or more but an only claim up to £41.
I think this is some ancient law dating back to before special delivery was thought of - maybe even the Penny Black!0 -

Ebay/paypal will make you refund the buyer if you don't have proof of a trackable posting method. It is your responsibility to get the parcel there so the buyer not asking for insurance won't make a difference. There's no point worrying yet though, your buyer may be leaving you lovely feedback as we speak!0 -
I thought you only get nothing if you send something that they won't take responsibility for - jewellery, money etc I think? Other than that I believe you can claim up to the £41.
Personally I always use a courier for expensive items - much cheaper than RM and higher levels of insurance available.0 -
Too late now and you still would not have been adequately covered but ParcelForce have an offer for Ebay sellers who use paypal postage

May be useful for the future though0 -
