Thats not to say I would get out of paying a refund but it would NOT be my actual fault if they did lose it. Paying £11 to send an item is a joke as it is. And where I said Special Delivery was mentioned, I couldn't actually make out what the man behind the counter was saying (no doubt you'll say that's racist or something).

Sorry but you could have researched the cost of posting before advertising the item.

Above a certain weight Special Delivery is not good value. There are plenty of insured overnight services available elsewhere. Most can be booked and paid for online and collected from your door.

Getting the item to the buyer is part of the "package" you are offering. If you chose to sub-contract that part it is up to you to find a contractor that will do a good job on economic terms.

    Fault doesn't come into it.

If the buyer claims INR and opens a dispute. There is nothing you can do other than provide online trackable delivery, which you cannot. So you will lose.

Closing ebay and paypal makes no odds. They will refund the money and then persue you.

For your info, couriers start at around £6, they offer full online tracking and for a small sum can insure up to £1000.

You deserve all you get. You said special delivery was "mentioned", which means the Post Office asked the right questions. You should quit ebay.

Macfly, you should quit writing on the forum until you've clicked, read and understood the the 'forum etiquette' instructions.

£150 and you didn't want to spend £15 to make sure it got there properly...your loss.

I hope it wasn't something that looks expensive.

OP if you are getting all worked up about one sale, maybe ebay is not for you
many transactions go smoothly without proof of delivery, most people on eaby are honest. I sell a lot of my stuff without signature/proof of delivery and so far (touch wood) I've had no problems!
Some of my parcels have high sale value and go without extra insurance (much lower claim value so still within £41).

I too have sent some parcels without the correct insurance, we are all human and make mistakes.

PS pay no notice to some of the rude people (person) posting here, don't take it personally...

..now the forum police has become the ebay police, deciding who should sell on ebay or not, and instructing posters they should quit ebay...
This forum is becoming more and more powerful..:D

You've clearly got a bit of difficulty reading your own post, never mind mine. OP threatened to leave ebay and thinks he can get away with no refund on that basis. You also said "maybe ebay is not for you". No maybe about it. The guy is in a panic, and ready to blame everyone but himself.

Saying I would leave ebay and not pay was clearly a wind up !!!!!!. And what comment is 'racist'? (How obvious you would claim that). I seriously couldn't understand the options given by the fella in the PO. Where did I mention his race?

As for the bit about not wanting to spend an extra 15 pound, read my post again. I ONLY HAD £15 ON ME at the time, with the PO closing in 15 minutes. I paid something like £11.50 1st Class, it was an extra, I think, 20 quid to post special delivery.

Ebay has been good for me, I have sold about 70 items and have a 100% feedback. I always send the item as soon as possible and if I have to swallow a few quid in terms of postage fees, like in this case, then that's fine.

The whole reason for posting this it to get some advice or even reassurance, as although I have had nothing but excellent communication with buyers, I knew as soon as I read there was no refunds etc on 1st class post, that I may have a problem with this sale. Hopefully it won't come to that of course.

I have got the answers I was looking for an also a few idiotic comments, but that seems the norm on here recently.

Terra, why the last sentence if the "man behind the counter" was not of a different ethnicity?
And ironman. How on earth have you managed to sell 70 items happily without understanding the postal system, and you've guessed the postage every time? I just don'r believe you.
Let me tell you what the bloke behind the counter was saying. £11.02 first class, £21.65 Special.
£13.50 for a two day service by parcelforce, from the Post Office, tracked and insured. All info available without getting off your arris.
