  • I've used Mark Bittmans.

When I do it, I use kidney beans, oats, chili powder. Cook it, pop it in to a pitta with some home made salsa - yum. It does better to put it in the fridge before cooking. I find that the oats make it nice and crispy. Use your own inspiration. It's more a technique as opposed to a recipe.

Actually if he's a veggie and has a smart phone or itouch, it's worth splashing out on the app for mark bittmans book How to cook everything vegetarian. It has all the recipes from the book and was very reasonable.

PS - I'm with him on the mushroom front! I eat all veggies, mushrooms are a fungus and just don't belong in the kitchen.

I pretty much do the same burgers as Frugal Worker - I add chillies to mine and have spicy salsa (tinned toms cooked down with tom paste and chillies!). I find a lot of pre packaged veggie stuff bland and make everything from scratch now as we need flavour in our food!!!

I make a basic felafel mix and squash it into burger shapes. I prefer wraps or pitta to buns so have that with lots of salad, chilli sauce, yogurt and mint sauce or hummous.

Whilst shopping at Mr M's on Saturday we had lunch in their cafeteria. My sister had a "Spicy Cajun Veggie Burger" which was absolutely delicious (I had a taste). We could easily see there were red kidney beans, red peppers, sweetcorn and onion in there, but got no further.

Does anyone know where I could get a breakdown of the ingredients - or better still, the recipe? I would love to make a batch of these for the freezer - and to surprise my sister .

    Thanks in advance :D.

Well, I've googled "Cajun Veggie Burgers" and none seem to look or sound quite right :(.

Does anyone have a tried and tested recipe for their own veggie burgers that I could adapt? Suggestions gratefully received!

  • I'd take a look at the many veggie burgers here:

see what's closest and experiment with adding some cajun seasoning to taste :)
Red kidney beans are a really popular veggie burger base - so yum!

  • If its not a product Morries sell in their frozen section it is likely they got it from some type of catering supplier, and they may have renamed it from whatever it was called when being sold by the caterers. Sorry I know that probably isn't much help. I've never tried making my own veggie burgers its one of those few things I am always a bit lazy on xx
  • I want to make home made veggie burgers what is the best way to bind? Egg whites or yolks or both?

I have frozen veg, duck eggs and bread if needed.
  • I usually beat a whole egg and add that.
