I GOT THE ADMIN JOB FROM YESTERDAY! Woop woop :) they must have liked me despite me only saying about 5 sentences to them! It's only 1 month with possibility of longer contract (the girl im replacing has moved departments, if she doesn't like her new job she'll be coming back to her old and and I'll be out the door!) so fingers crossed it's longer than 4 weeks. Starting tomorrow though agh, I only have 2 smart blouses, 1 pair of trousers and skirt and 1 blazer! Can anyone with office experience advise me on clothes? Can you get away with a smart top and cardigan/jumper or does it have to be a shirt?

I can't help with the clothes i'm afraid but just wanted to post my congratulations for getting a job. Always good to hear a success story.

I've actually applied for my first job in what seems like weeks this evening, I match the requirements perfectly so if I don't get an interview for this one i'm going to give up. I'm getting fed up with the temp job i've been doing for six months now.

    Good luck to you all.

Just had my telephone interview, went pretty bad, lost my voice 2/3 through, started coughing....

She really focused on the the fact that I'm studying in my spare time with accountancy.... and the fact that I only temped over the last couple of years despite having a long solid role for 4 years prior to the economic downturn. I doubt I will get invited for an face to face interview, not too upset about this as it seemed like a really high end corporate finance firm, which is something I do not think I would fit in with no progression

    Anyway, onwards and upwards

On reflection, it did not go that bad, maybe messed up on a couple of questions
    student loan : £7083  2. Halifax : £661; Capital One :£297, BarclaysCard :£370 ; Barclays Bank CDL : last payment due 2013 ; AIM 1 : £PAY OFF CREDIT CARDS @ £70PW for the first 3 months of new job

    Saving aim : £12000 per year Nov 2011 - Nov 2012 (£250 pw)
  • I got a call back from my telephone interview (had it on Friday) earlier this evening, I have to go in on Friday for a face to face interview. I got home and had 30 minutes to order a suit off next for next day delivery :o Really worrying as online it says all this stuff about employees more likely to hire you in a skirt suit and nude tights opposed to a pant suit. Sorry but I'd be too conscious of my fat knee's on show than the interview so trouser suit it is haha

So nervous, haven't had a face to face interview since I was 16!!!!

don't worry, trouser suits are just as smart!:) good luck for Friday!
  • Thank you hun, I'm so nervous! Luckily prior to my phone interview I printed out lots of example question and answers and info about the company so just gunna re read those now to try get a bit comfortable with them.
  • Hope everyone is doing well with job hunting! I've managed to grab another part-time job alongside my current one. Twelve hours at a famous high-street store. The shopping centre here is open till quite late as well, so it's mainly evenings and the odd day when I'm not at my current one.

Job 1: 14 hours, lunchtime shifts and weekends on and off. Pays all of my rent, bills and food (being part-time veggie and a thrifter helps :D)
Job 2: 12 hours, evenings and potential for lots of overtime over Christmas and New Years. Also the group discount will be veeeeeeeery useful as I pretty much shop in all of their stores!

Luckily my housemate works in tax, so she's worked out all of the figures for me. It's an extra £200 a month odd at the moment, it probably doesn't sound like an amazing amount but it is the difference between me asking parents for a food parcel or relying on overtime and living on beans...obviously means that I won't be going home for Christmas, but if it's money then I am not complaining AT ALL. I've not taken my freelance work into account for my overall earnings as well so when that picks up again, after tax may have a little extra. So yes, it's not the most easiest of options but I'm so excited to finally be getting more money into the bank!!

Just had a call back from an interview on Monday to say I didn't get it - ho hum!

Thing is though the HR person said the interview went well, I had great technical knowledge and presented and delivered it all well (so far so good), HOWEVER where she said I fell down was the technical writing test at the end (fair enough).

The thing is though in the interview they said this element wasn't really important and that they just wanted to have a quick look at my writing style and content wasn't important, but the woman at HR said it was content that they felt was lacking.

Understandably this has left me somewhat confused as to why I didn't get the job and feels like a brush off (which is annoying but oner of those things I guess) but most irritatingly it gives me no ideas as to what I should/shouldn't do in future interviews.

I have the email address of the bloke who actually did the interview and was wondering if people thought it would be out of line if I sent him a quick email thanking him for his time etc and asking if poss for more detailed feedback as what I got from HR was slightly confusing given the context of the interview we had? At worst he'll just ignore it I guess??

  • Aw thats a shame gemnjam - I would email for more feedback - no harm in asking! Worse thing that can happen is they don't reply!!
Made it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:
