The admin interview my recruitment agency consultant has been organising for me turned out to be this afternoon. She went to such great lengths of explaining to me the job and all the questions I'd get asked and we spent a long time on the phone practising answers (bearing in mind I only had a few hours notice before the interview). So I turned up all scared expecting this big scary interview, turned out to be a 5 minute informal chat where I was only asked one question about my competency of the job, and that was it!! I've had harder retail interviews before for a job that would be a lot simpler than this admin one (it's quite a fast paced job). So now Ive got to wait if they like me or not, although they never gave me the opportunity to sell myself
they said they'd look at my CV and decide!!

After posting my CV on here yesterday I didn't know where to start to improve it. I've just finished work, so when I still have money to my name I decided to pay one of the CV sites to redo my CV. I researched them first, and had already had a free review and was very impressed.
My new CV has arrived this morning and it's amazing. In fact I think I am going to have to get them to change a few bits as it is obvious (to me at least) that I haven't written it, it's just far too clever! They have also sent me a cover letter to use and free updates for 12 months.
I know it's not for everyone, but if anyone wants their contact details give me a shout.0 -
I GOT THE ADMIN JOB FROM YESTERDAY! Woop woop
they must have liked me despite me only saying about 5 sentences to them! It's only 1 month with possibility of longer contract (the girl im replacing has moved departments, if she doesn't like her new job she'll be coming back to her old and and I'll be out the door!) so fingers crossed it's longer than 4 weeks. Starting tomorrow though agh, I only have 2 smart blouses, 1 pair of trousers and skirt and 1 blazer! Can anyone with office experience advise me on clothes? Can you get away with a smart top and cardigan/jumper or does it have to be a shirt?

Don't know much about the clothing issue (for the first time in 9 years i'm actually going to have to wear a pair of trousers to work and not jeans & trainers!), but congratulations on getting the job.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

Congrats on the job Disenchanted!!
Does anyone keep a spreadsheet of what jobs they have applied to and where they found them?
I'm finding that most of the jobs sites I'm registered on are advertising the same jobs and I don't want to duplicate applications!!
Anyone have anything set up they would like to share??

I've knocked up a basic one in Open Office - keeps track of some stuff like the company you applied for, when you applied for it, the source of the job as well as the ability to record what CV you used (if you have multiple ones or many templates), if you sought feedback etc. I know i generally tried to keep a folder with the CV's i used for certain jobs along with the covering letters etc (only started doing that recently it must be said), if you're able to use a SS it's easy enough to do and will also give you something tangible you can print out if you're signing on, while i doubt it would be taken as "official" i guess it's as good a set of records as possible.
Brilliant idea though!Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -

well done! :beer:that's great news. i used to work in an office and i used to wear suits on very smart days, or trousers and a shirt or a top the rest of the time. a top tends to be acceptable wear. i would take your cardi with you and you can see how smart the others are, take it off if no-one is wearing one! good luck with your first day! :T
i got a phone call a few minutes ago saying i didn't get the job i had the interview for last week.:( he gave me good feedback so that's something. i've seen a more suitable one which is more local so i'm going all out to make sure my application is perfect!!!0
