That is ridiculous. Surely its up to you how far you are prepared to travel. Good luck finding something.

It is but ive seen a few job ads or application process ask do you live within an hours drive of the store for waitrose jobs luckily i live within an easy distance of 3 stores but 1 job i didnt apply for as i lived more than an hours distance form this other store.

The job Miss Scrooge applied for was a bit daft asking if she lived within 5 miles of the store.

Isn't it down to making sure the employers can get to work on time

God, I'm sooo fed up today. I've never known the job market to be so bad. All the agencies keep telling me how it's the worse PA/Secretarial market they've ever known. I'm beginning to feel I'll never find a job - I can't even find anything to apply for. ....!

I'm in the same boat ...I've been feeling so fed up for the past few weeks now the job market is really bad. I can't believe that in only a couple of weeks it will be september. I don't know what to do any more, really feel completely stuck.

Anyway, I will try and recharge and start Monday afresh.

Husband found out on Friday that the job he'd had two interviews for, but was in a difficult location working for a company he'd rather not work for have appointed somebody-who-knew-somebody-from-within-the-company. The bloke at the agency is !!!!!! off as he won't be getting any commission despite the fact he was told OH interviewed well on both occasions.

In some respects it's a relief that the decision about a difficult location has been taken away from us and to know that it was a 'job for the boys' candidate who got it rather than a rejection of my husband's abilities.

Thanks for this economics girl, your post has cheered me up after a my depressing second interview. The man who gave you feedback sounds wonderful, it is good to know there are people out there who are good at feedback and it must be encouraging for you to know how well you did and also where you could have improved
Last night I was depressed after my second interview. I felt I didn't answer the job experiences questions in enough depth. I am good on research on the company, on describing my strengths and weaknesses, not good on describing my past job experiences and providing examples.
I suggest you try out some of your interview questions and some of the interview tasks on your brother in the hope he will have a taste of the real world rather than Daily Mail land. Oh and score him .......harshly
That is two interviews this week where I should have been successful but failed. Oh well, at least I know what to work on now

I am also bad at giving examples and I hate that type of questions like that esp. when they are really specific. The nice man did say that if you haven't been in that situation you can always say I haven't been in that situation but if I was I'ld do x. Having said that I think you're better with a real life example or they'll say you haven't got real experience but at least its a backup plan. You did well to get a 2nd interview.

My brother is really good at interviews unlike me - gets through about 50% of them with a job offer, partly as he's in a shortage area but still he must be very good at them. He's very confident which I think helps and he spends his whole life working which also helps.

At least a few things seem to be advertised again though it'll be a month before I hear back I guess as usual. At least the jobs seem to be reappearing - must have been the summer I guess.

    Morning all
A fresh new week with new hope of jobs (I'm trying to be optimistic here!).
I have just applied for another one however there is another three weeks before the application cut off so I'm in for a wait but at least it will give the others time to get back to me (hopefully).
    Good Luck all!

    Cheers for this.

Glad I am not the only one who hates giving examples! I know I must have the experience asked for but am not so good at communicating this due to lack of confidence and passion

Your brother is fortunate to love his work, to be confident be in a skills shortage are and also be good at interviews. Don't envy him though, if he spends his whole life working. I could never be like that, I love my life outside work.

Glad that the jobs are reappearing

Going to work on my interview techniques now:o

I'm another one who is bad at giving examples. I give what I think is a good example but they always seem to want me to say more. My mind goes blank and then I waffle! I really don't know what I can do to get better as it as I don't understand what they are looking for!

I'm still a bit down after last week's disappointments and I've got to sign on today which always puts me in a bad mood so my new positive mood will start tomorrow.

I give examples but its not always a good example so i tend to fluff it
