  • I feel like crying sometimes, I really do.

Applied for a job at Boots as a Christmas temp. I have all the relevant experience, having worked in retail/customer service and through busy Christmas times, and I elaborated on this, yet today they said I was unsuccessful! Why??? I don't know what else I could possibly do or say to convince someone I am able to stack a few shelves and serve people at the tills.

I JUST WANT A BLOODY JOB.

At this point I'll pay to have a job. Well not really, but that's how badly I want a damn job!
  • Oh and what the hell?

Just tried applying for a job at the Sainsburys website, and it said I had to be within 5 miles of the store.

I really just wanna bang my head against a brick wall. This is ridiculous!!

I'm sorry to hear that Miss S. It must be so frustrating. I can only imagine that they get so many applicants from suitably qualified people that they can't differentiate between that they just take a lucky dip. I don't think many shop-workers realise how lucky they are to have a job because so many I come across wouldn't know customer service if it landed on them! Keep your chin up, I'm trying to keep mine up too!

Just dropping in to say hi :)

Hope things look up for everyone soon! I went down the route of starting my own business but didn't find any customers, quite the failure ;)

I would have stuck at it but really had to have regular income so focussed more on getting a job.
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.

Try and think of self employment people it may be the way to go. There is so much help and support available.
The more i think of it the more i think this is the only way to go to try and work for yourself instead of waiting for someone else to take you on?

I know its not always that easy btw but this is what i think lately.

already thought of SE but its what do i do as SE,

Any feedback should be presented sensitively in a constructive manner, sorry to hear that the woman failed to do this. I had a similar phone call two days ago and it made me angry and despondent. Good luck on the second interview, hope you get it!

Applied for a few jobs today but I am sure they are the same jobs being presented through different agencies. Phone has gone quiet and I would like some interviews please

Sorry to hear you had unconstructive feedback too. I had an 1.5 hour interview/presentation for the 2nd job the day later and they telephoned me the morning after. Got all excited as the job was perfect but no another rejection. However good news was I exceeded their score for employment at that level (job was a 25% pay rise) and came third which I was happy with as it was a public sector job. The man said he would happily employ me and 2 - 3 years ago I would have got the job. He encouraged me to apply for other vacancies with them though that's frustrating as they are like 13 page application forms. He said I interviewed well and told me the perfect answer to 1 question and that 2 of my answers had been a bit short but not wrong. Said I appeared friendly and nice and thinks I'll get a job soon. Have to say I'm not too sure on that but as I have VR payout and young kids I'm not too bothered though going through interviews is like banging your head on a brick wall. There's been nothing to apply for the past couple of months really hoping that's just the summer.

I wouldn't let that phone call get to you, they are obviously not nice people to work for - I would think through anything that could have validility but anything else just ignore. The feedback I had from that first interview 1 out of 4 points was valid, the rest their was no evidence for and I've given similar answers in another interview and came 2nd. The useful bit was to always think through why do you want to work for this company and what could you bring to us?

I'm having a similar experience with agencies - some of the jobs have already been filled. Had a couple of interviews through agencies but otherwise all direct. Hope you get some interviews soon. I did see a job advertised today so hopefully the quiet bit was just holiday season.

My brother said yesterday anyone who wants a job can get one. If only! GRRRR. Too much Daily Mail reading.

That is ridiculous. Surely its up to you how far you are prepared to travel. Good luck finding something.

Thanks for this economics girl, your post has cheered me up after a my depressing second interview. The man who gave you feedback sounds wonderful, it is good to know there are people out there who are good at feedback and it must be encouraging for you to know how well you did and also where you could have improved
Last night I was depressed after my second interview. I felt I didn't answer the job experiences questions in enough depth. I am good on research on the company, on describing my strengths and weaknesses, not good on describing my past job experiences and providing examples.
I suggest you try out some of your interview questions and some of the interview tasks on your brother in the hope he will have a taste of the real world rather than Daily Mail land. Oh and score him .......harshly
That is two interviews this week where I should have been successful but failed. Oh well, at least I know what to work on now

Well what a pointless week that has been.

Things are getting worse by the week. At least a few weeks ago I was getting some replies and even an interview or two. Now it is just silence to the point I send out 10 or so apps and havn't had a single contact from any employer.

Just wish somebody would tell me what is so wrong with me?

Trust me, it's not just you! I'm finding the exact same thing at the moment :(
