Today I had the interview with the CAB, I had to give a presentation which is something I havent done since school (and even then I was naff at them) I must admit ive spent the last few days completly stressing (poor hubby and kids lol) at the prospect of doing it. and if anything the stress hindered my preperation efforts.

The interview didnt start well for me, they expressed disapointment I had not chosen to talk about myself  however they became more interseted when I told them what subject my presentation would address. I gave the 5 min talk (thinking I was rubbish) and was astounded to find they were very very impressed with it....the trustee commented that he wasnt sure if "I am brilliant at research, brilliant at writing and speaking or just super passionate about the content" :D Of course I answered a bit of all of them apply to me ;) They even talked about publishing it and were comming up with suggestions as to where it could be published and that it would need no editing etc (cue me sat there consciously stopping my jaw from hitting the floor).
Later in the interview I was told im like an onion :rotfl:peel back a layer and discover something new lol and I was told im very deep (not sure what she meant by that one lol)
Every question I answered (except one) was meet with 'thats impressive' or similar.
As soon as formalities were complete they said there is no doubt that they want me to help them and offered me options of start dates. :T
Honestly I cant remember ever being praised so much in that sort of situation.
I know its not paid work but I stand to gain alot in the long term and to be honest today was such a confidence boost!!

Then just as I walked in the door the house phone rang and I was offered a second interview at the place I interviewed at last week and thanked me for my "Impressive letter".

Today is a good day!!! :D

Many congratulations Angel - it does indeed sound like a fantastic day for you! :j

I think you have cheered up a lot of people today as well!

Good luck with CAB and also with the second interview!

BTW, I'd love to know what the subject was you chose to speak about!

Well done Angel, sounds like you did really well :)

I put 'references available on request' at the bottom of my CV too - for their privacy more than anything. I don't want them pestered. Plus, if I put names and contact details, it takes up valuable space which I'd much rather use trying to sell myself.

Lexi, I would give them a call. If you haven't heard anything after the date they've given you for a decision, it's reasonable to ask for an update and whether you're still being considered. If they're just slow coming to a decision, there's no harm and just shows you're proactive. If it's bad news, then it's closure.

They shouldn't leave you hanging either way, really. It's kind of unprofessional and rude, but sadly it seems more and more common! :(

  • Well, over the last month I've had 4 interviews and each one never got back to me. So it isn't the CV or application form, starting to feel like I have BO or something!

Is it my interview technique? It's never stopped me before. I'm graduating in the summer, but I've not mentioned this as the jobs are waitressing/barista positions. Starting to feel like I'm missing something here.

I'll add my congratulations Angel, it's great how these things work out isn't it.

Pretty poor day on the job front today, hardly anything out there that I found worth applying for. Hope tomorrow is better.

Not worked for eight months now and completely, totally fed up with it all.

Angel, sounds like you have had a fab day! Well done! Reading your post really did cheer me up!

I have had quite an interesting day.

I applied for a job and got a rejection this morning.

Before I went to the Job Centre I emailed the company I had the interview for asking if they had come to a decision. I got a reply saying she had been out of the office all week which had delayed the decision but she assured me she would be letting everyone know in the next couple of days. I am positive she will have already let the lucky person who got the job know, and it's just us unlucky people who are waiting for an answer.

So I was at the Job Centre for my 13 week meeting. There was a group session first, completely pointless, but I found out we were all now on weekly signings, and because I am under 25, I would be on weekly signings for 13 weeks :j Lucky me!

I then had a meeting with an adviser, the same on who I saw at my first appointment. He asked if I would like to be moved straight to stage three, and have access to the future jobs fund. He showed me the vacancies available first, and I couldn't believe it. Just to quote my post the morning:
I wish I had the balls to do what you are doing! I would love to set up a business related to events management. I love organising and I think I am good at it, but I have no real experience, except what I have done in my personal life, not to mention no money!

Guess what one of the jobs are...events organiser and publicity!

What a coincidence! So I've been reffered for the job. 25 hours a week at NMW :( but it's better than JSA and it's experience that could maybe lead to something really exciting. They will be ringing me in the next couple of days to arrange and interview apparently :j The advisor thinks I have a really good chance of getting the job. There are 2 roles, and they can make 8 referrals. He thinks because I have a degree and driving licence/car they will be really interested. I'm excited :D but need to look into how this future jobs fund thing works so off to do some googling.

:jThere seems to be quite a bit of good news in the air!!:j Well done all!

The jobcentre wasn't too horrible after all that stressing:o And I think I got my point across about the fact that I am working and it needs noting on their system to prevent further confusion with the interviews.
I didn't get to speak to my headmistress today as she was in meetings so am going for a chat tomorrow before work...its made me feel quite positive about things . The idea that a new career could come out of it has given me a bit of a lift! All I need now is for her to say "yes you can volunteer as much as you like":D By the start of the new school year I may just have done enough to get a whole new job..and there seem to be a lot teachers support/assistant posts advertised in my area so fingers crossed.

I'm glad there are some good news stories out there today, makes me feel a bit better reading other peoples success stories, hopefully i'll be able to add my own soon.

Really pleased for you Lexilex, I know you've been getting fed up lately. It's good to see your job centre advisor going that extra mile by offering to move you up onto stage 3 early. I think some advisors are willing to help if they can see you're really trying to find a job.

Lets hope for more good news tomorrow.
