My interview went really well and the guy said that I was the best that he had seen this week so just waiting to see if they call me in for a second interview so I going to keeping for other jobs as well.
  • Wow - so many people getting jobs. Congratulations to you all - I hope it goes well for you.

I went into mad cleaning mode yesterday - cleaned the whole house from top to bottom and sorted out some stuff to sell on Ebay. The house looks like a showhome now.

Hello everyone. Really happy for those who got their jobs! My one year out of work now feels like just a long weekend, which is weird.
I am three weeks in to the new job, and I just love it, such great peoPle, really lovely. I still have to pinch myself that I managed to change industry and get a management role at a corporate, you know, without the year out of work I never would have managed to do it.

I am very strangely paranoid about messing up, it's a shame that a nasty unjustified experience at my last job is affecting me.

The nasty thing last week was my nutjob ex md saw my new role on linked in and requested to connect with me, as did my ex colleagues. That's really sick, now I have a great job, they want to leach off it. I felt like throwing up. Vile.

I will be OK won't I? I mean I have always been a great employee, I just feel terrified I will get some bad luck. That's just a hangover on the last job right? Has anyone felt this fear?

The bad experience was just that, an experience - not one you're likely to repeat as it took that particular set of circumstances to happen.

You've landed a fab job, it's plain from your post that you love it and I bet it's plain to your new colleagues too. Don't worry about the past and get on with the present. You'll be a great employee - this is what's normal for you. :)
    Whatever
  • I got the job I had the interview for on Tuesday!!

I am so pleased, they rang me about 10 minutes ago and offered me the job. I'm still shaking! I start a week on Monday.

The hours are going to be 11am - 5pm Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The best, best thing is that I get a free travel pass as a perk, so no more train or bus fares for me!!

    :j:j:j:j:j
    :T That's fantastic news, congratulations.
    Whatever

Well done, what steps, did you take to change your industry and get the fantastic job?

Try to ignore the past, it is the present that counts. You landed a job that sounds great in a difficult market, I applaud you:T. You won't mess up as now you have experience of the worst case and that will help you cope if ever it happens again

I was in the music industry and I stripped out all references to it on my cv. I named the processes involved in my work and achievements.
In interviews I remarked on just how hard it is to sell records and build fanbases, always trying to steer the conversation to the technical abilities. Difficult because interviewers always wanted to chat about music, then I would get turned down and told to stay In music! The only industry where the door stayed firmly shut was fashion (I am in Ecommerce), a closed shop. This made me realise just how much of a closed shop the music bizz is, we didn't hire outside the industry.
The biggest thing was taking ownership of my past work, had to convince myself before I could convince others.

Many thanks for this November5th, you obviously put a lot of thought into your job hunting approach and how to market yourself to a wide market. So glad it paid off for you.
Your last point I find particulary helpful, convincing yourself is the hardest part:).

Who did the review of your cv and cover letter?

Sorry I didn't get back before... I think they were called the cv centre. The level of detail is really basic - told me to utilise bullet points and white space etc. Watch out though, they send you emails for about 4 weeks after to try and get you to pay them to write it for you. I just ignored these (I don't want to spend £32 on that!). I applied what they said then got feedback from 2 friends and my old uni career service!

I had my first driving lesson today! 2 Hour lesson driving in busy London. Was a bit scary at first, but it soon all came flooding back. By this time next year, I hopefully won't be turned down for jobs because I can't drive! :D

I can tell you though all that stop, starting in London really tones up your left leg! I feel like I've had a work out!
