Hi again everyone

Do nto like waiting, very stresfullllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
Good luck anyone off to interviews/waiting for news0 -
Hi folks, really glad to see such a supportive thread and would be grateful to join.
In some respects it's encouraging (if that's the appropriate word) to see the chat between you all, lifting spirits on a down day. In other respects it's come as a bit of an eye-opener that I might be out of work longer than I anticipated!
I was made redundant on 31st January and started looking for work immediately, caught between that 'do I just take anything as long as it's an income' versus 'I really don't want that job!'. I spent most of last week making calls I needed to make (no redundancy pay from my employers, so looks like a tribunal issue) and going to the job centre to sign on. Think I was lucky with the guy I got who initially was like pulling teeth to talk to, but I got the impression that once he realised I'm genuinely wanting work, he got a bit more chatty.
I've never been unemployed since I first started working 23 years ago, so this is a bit of a shock to the system - I'm sitting thinking ok, I know I need to get my CV together, but also know that in the last 20 odd years things have changed and my thoughts on a CV are probably well out of date! Anyone got pointers as to where I might find a good example online?
Thanks for hearing me out, I thought I'd be up for the 'challenge' but I'm finding it hard to motivate myself and that's so just not me.

Afternoon all,
Well I started the week well, a rejection email by 9.15 this morning! You think they could have at least waited until Monday afternoon rather than putting me on a downer straight away.
Still holding out hope on the interview I had last week although I didn't get the job he did say there were better suited vacancies he might like me for, here's hoping.
To beat last weeks record we need four people to be offered jobs this week.
Crafty Toots,
Welcome to the thread, feel free to download on us at any time. We all know the feeling of despondency in looking for employment. I can't help you with where to find the recent CV as a friend helped to design mine. There was a website that I think was called business balls that had some helpful tips. I too hadn't been unemployed for many years and it was a shock to me as well.
Best of luck this week everybody.0 -
Hi everyone, hope you don't mind me joining in too!
I really find Monday's difficult to deal with, as it seems like another looooong week stretching ahead! Job sites are slow to load, so I spend all day looking at the same jobs over and over again.
I've got 3 applications in that I'm really hoping get to interview stage, so I'm checking my email every few minutes, which is a bit like watching a kettle boil!
Hope everyone else is having a good day and I look forward to reading about all the success stories this week!0 -
Well today has been completely rubbish for me. Very few jobs posted and none that are relevent to me. Got a very rude rejection email this morning too. I am really struggling at the minute, can't take much more of this. I thought I was doing the right thing going to college and university, but flicking through facebook today has made me think otherwise. It seems all those who left school at 16 are in decent jobs, with their own houses and lives, and here I am just stuck in a rut.
Fully expecting a rejection letter tomorrow from the company I was interviewed for.
I hope others have had happier days than me.0 -
Hey all,
Well I survived my first day at work. It was very dull, but apparently that will get better as more work comes in (there have been a lot of changes to the teams made today too). Everyone was friendly though and I think I'll cope
If anyone wants to have a look at my CV (after I take personal details out) I don't mind sending it out. I got plenty of interviews so it does work, my interview technique was never all that mind you
All it takes it one person to see something in you and the fact that you are all on this thread shows you're actually trying as opposed to the people I'm seeing now (working closely with DWP now!)Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -

If it helps it's been a pretty bad day for me for job hunting as well. There was hardly anything that fell into my skill set today. Oh well, tomorrow is another day.
Glad you had a good first day Drea, i'm dreading my first day back at work (if I ever get one!). Hope it gets more interesting soon.0 -

Please could you sent it to me! I think it's time I made a few changes to mine, it obviously isn't selling me very well. Glad to hear your first day went well too!
Talking of CV's, I was at my sisters at the weekend. She's half way through an arty degree, and just made her CV to send out to placements. It's the best CV I've ever seen (apart from a few grammatical errors which as her older sister I had to point out). She has made it into a leaflet, and it's all very colourful and pretty, with pictures of her different projects. It will definitely stand out compared to the normal boring paper ones. It's got me thinking of ways to make mine different!
Anyway, back to the hunt.
Despite my job-search induced depression yesterday, I managed to find three jobs at the end of the day to apply for. All admin jobs. I can't even remember the last time I applied for something I would like to do, but ANY job would be fantastic right now.
Today is looking like another slow one, 12 jobs online so far, all requiring specialist skills. Going to try and keep busy though, can't be doing with another down-day. I have to start printing applications off and rejection emails ready for my 13 week job centre thing on Thursday. Talking of rejection emails, got another one last night.
ETA: Just moved all my rejection emails into one folder to make it easier to print them off. 84 of them. Lovely.0 -
Hi,
Can I join in as well.
I blew a chance at an interview yesterday, I'm sure of it.I've just told this story in another thread, but I guess this is the best place.
I've been unemployed since September  due to council cuts (in a round about fashion). I worked for a Coach Company who ran school contracts and they lost a few of these.
Thats pretty much all I said, when they asked "Tell me abit about yourself"
It was for a cleaner at Molly Maid, so I assume they are looking for happy friendly people, yeah really sounded that :rotfl:
At the end of the interview at the "we'll let you know stage", I actually stood up and turned my back, I knew then I'd blown it.
I did turn around and shake hands, but I'm sure it was too late then.
They said they would ring yesterday or today if any of us had got a job (there were two full time shifts and part time)
Just about the only thing that was good, is I lived in the area they operate in, and I was clean, tidy and smart. Interview dress etc :rotfl:
Writing this has made me feel abit betterFelt like getting drunk last night and sOd the hangover (although I didn't)
