Hey
Yep I start tomorrow, a bit nervous about it! I haven't been offered the interview yet but I think I'll just have to leave it this time because I do also have the doctors this week and can't ask for both times off.
I can leave it a couple weeks then start looking again.
I agree, it would be pushing your luck somewhat to ask for too much time off in your first week. I'm sure all will go well, have a great time.0 -

Had tonsillitis this week and didn't get out of bed for two days then had a call on Thursday at 12pm asking me to attend on interview an hour away at 4pm.....mad rush and no prep done at all. Interview went surprisingly well and they asked me back for a second interview at the location where the position was on Saturday, I had to do a 5 min presentation on myself which was daunting, but, it actually went really well and the interviewer said that I covered everything he expected me to. However, the interview was extremely patronising and although the first interview went really well I didn't think the second went very well at all.
I seem to let myself down on the second interview and I'm getting really down about it. I've had 5 interviews and 4 second interviews and not on proper job offer.
Next week it will be back to the daily wait for the phone to ring. Starting to get really narked that companies can't even be bothered to call/email/write to let you know the outcome of the interviews....especially when some of them have involved massive amounts of prep and driving quite a distance to attend the interviews.
Feeling really, really negative
Hey there,
Try not to be too dispondent, second interviews are notoriously difficult, by the very nature of what they're designed to do, whittling down the short list even further, the fact that you have been successful in reaching second interiews so many times clearly shows that you've got what it takes, employers simply have an abundance of people to choose from and can be as picky as they like. Hope all goes well.0 -

Also as katkim says there is a lot of this exact match stuff going on, in a way that I have not come across in twenty years. You will be that exact match, it is just taking more time and applications than I remember as usual.
What I am coming across is that they want you to come from another employer that is pretty much exactly like them, I am not getting any crossover.
So I may be great at ecommerce, but as I didn't sell the exact same widget from an extremely similar company, I am getting considered then dropped. As the market for the widgets I used to sell is in a fairly deep recession, I am in a bit of trouble.
It's getting scary, frankly, that I can't seem to transfer my skills anywhere!0 -
November5th, what kind of work do you do with ecommerce? I'm in a similar field, and haven't been finding it being so restricted to the type of widgets being sold - but maybe that's why my interviews haven't resulted in offers!0

It must be extremely hard going. Is there any chane of you getting some free training in the most lucrative sectors of your industry?0 -

Music. Industry is shrinking! Thing is, selling music and maintaining fan networks should be very desirable, as it is one of the harder sells, fans are wonderfully fickle!0 -

I am specialised in most areas, however it has been ecommerce for seven years now, so very difficult to get back to the other areas against the current competition. There have been many layoffs, so plenty to choose from! So sticking to the digital side actually marks me out. (Eventually I hope!)0 -

I sure hope things pick up for you soon. Sorry I can't be of more help, but if you fancy a rant at any time, you've got lots of support here.
Good luck0 -

Oh, yes, definitely. Music is by far one of the most difficult industries for stability! Still, I'd think you'd have very transferable skills, particularly if you're versed in the art of using social media as a sales vehicle.0 -
Good luck with the new job today Drea!
Hope everyone else had a nice weekend. I feel much happier having had chance to chill out for a couple of days, went to see Peter Kay (late xmas present) and he was fab!
Back to the search today though. I've given up on the job I was interviewed for on Thursday. Although I came out thinking it went okay, the more I think about it, I don't think I really sold myself that well. I'm pretty gutted about it because I would love to work for the company.
Hope this week is more positive.0
