And typically another agency is putting me forward for a role that is perm and pays quite a bit more.... but interviews would be Wed/Thurs.... could be an issue.

I'm feeling horrible today, I'm fed up not working! I've been out of work for just over a month, which may not seem much, but it's the longest I've been unemployed in 2 years. I work in TV and work short term contracts, so it's almost a constant job search. My lengthiest contract was from mid September to mid December last year. I applied for loads of jobs (well 3, which is loads in tv terms) and sent off speculative cvs to production companies the other day, but today and yesterday I've just felt very demotivated!

I'm hoping to get a certain job, which I did last year too. I phoned the company and got the email of the person, I have no idea when they're recruiting for the position I want though! This is my best chance of a job at the minute, even though it's not the area I want to progress in, I want to go down the studio entertainment as oppose to reality tv, which is what this job is. I guess it's just a case of accept work to get work or hold out.

The thing is I don't have a driving license and it's limiting me, I really need to get a decent paid job and have the will power to save to learn to drive. I had some lessons at uni, but in London it's so expensive!

The last day I worked was Christmas Day on One Born At Christmas for Channel 4, so any employer can see I'm willing to work flexible hours!

Anyway, just needed to write down my thoughts. Feeling a bit better now
  • Congrats Drea!

    Sharon,

We've all had days like the one you've just had, that's one reason that Drea started this thread so we could support each other during these difficult times. Take heart from the three successes we've had this week. I hope you feel better soon.
  • Well done Drea!:T

Well done Drea! And congrats to everyone else who's managed to get jobs this week. It's nice to hear some success stories :)

I've been having talks with my family about me extending my job search abroad - my sector is just completely dead in the UK. There was only 1 new job post this week, which is so depressing. The field is a bit more healthy elsewhere (although not much more!)

And I'm getting no responses at all about other types of jobs, maybe because there's so much competition that they can find an exact match these days, and transferable skills aren't so valuable anymore.

Gawd, I don't want to move, but looks like I may have to for a year or two :(

i got some thinking to do!

What sector are you in? is it perhaps a field that you could set up as self employed and work from home? The reason I ask is because it's something that I have done. However, when I set up the business I was in full-time employment, and began with just a few hours a week, before progressing to more hours as things took off, since then I've reduced my hours at work and added more to the business, so I still have a salary coming in. It was a bit scarey to begin with, knowing that my regular salary would reduce, but it's a gamble, it's tough at times, but I don't regret it, I love working for myself.

    Hi there Drea,

Just a quick note to say good luck for tomorrow (it is tomorrow that you start work is't it?) Haven't had time to go through all the recent posts, but did you decide on what you would do about the other interview for the full-time post?
  • I thought I would come back and update you on my search. Had a bad week last week after having 1 rejection and two "we're still thinking about your application" groan!

Had tonsillitis this week and didn't get out of bed for two days then had a call on Thursday at 12pm asking me to attend on interview an hour away at 4pm.....mad rush and no prep done at all. Interview went surprisingly well and they asked me back for a second interview at the location where the position was on Saturday, I had to do a 5 min presentation on myself which was daunting, but, it actually went really well and the interviewer said that I covered everything he expected me to. However, the interview was extremely patronising and although the first interview went really well I didn't think the second went very well at all.

I seem to let myself down on the second interview and I'm getting really down about it. I've had 5 interviews and 4 second interviews and not on proper job offer.

Next week it will be back to the daily wait for the phone to ring. Starting to get really narked that companies can't even be bothered to call/email/write to let you know the outcome of the interviews....especially when some of them have involved massive amounts of prep and driving quite a distance to attend the interviews.

    Feeling really, really negative :(
My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say ;)
    Ignore......check!

    Hey :)

Yep I start tomorrow, a bit nervous about it! I haven't been offered the interview yet but I think I'll just have to leave it this time because I do also have the doctors this week and can't ask for both times off.

I can leave it a couple weeks then start looking again.
