Okay question for everyone,
I have seen a job I would like to apply for, to apply it advises ring up. I ring up and advise looking to apply for the job are they sending application packs out. Yes he says we do it either by email or post, I advise email give address he says he will send it end of conversation.
What do you do when a job advises apply for a job by telephone, he never asked me any questions. Should I be asking them questions? It is for a housing agency project should I be putting myself forward and asking if I can come visit? Have I screwed it up already?
What would you do?
I would ring them up again asking where is the application pack (if not received) and then go on to ask them the questions about the job including calrification on what the next step is in the recruitment process. The asking if can come visit seems like a good question to ask
No you have not screwed it up, they were just being hazy on what the process was0 -
Thanks asparagusnextleft (quite a name). Isn't it funny when you have been out of work you to start to over analyse everything.
Good luck to everyone with their job hunting today. Keeping fingers crossed x
It's actually a song title! Asaparagus Next Left by Half Man Half Biscuit.
You do have a tendency to over analyse everything when you've been out of work for a while, I know I do it all the time! There is nothing better in life than writing on the sole of your slipper with a biro.....0 -
Well I'm off out for my second interview for a job working with a housing charity. Hopefully this will be third time lucky!0

Well I have emailed recruiter asking for news, surely she wouldn't just ignore me? This is someone I have been in contact with for months?0

Absolutely agree however analysis as long as it does not lead to paralysis can be a great asset;)0 -

This week I've applied for a checkout operator job. I used to do this 20 years ago in the same store so hopefully that will count in my favour even though things will have changed.
well fingers crossed
just found out learn direct have been taken over or are about to be and my session i had booked for next week is now cancelled which isnt what i wanted to hear, i was hoping to have something constructive to do during the day0 -
asparagusnextleft wrote: »Don't worry - whenever I've had to ask for an application pack by phone I have just phoned up and politely explained that I wish to apply for such and such a job and they have just taken my name and address and said there will be an application pack in the post. It's never entered my head to ask questions at that stage, and I've never been asked any questions either.
Pre internet, phoning up for an application form was the norm, and that's all it was, just a phone call to request a form and further details.
Thanks!
I *hate* phoning people about jobs, and there was a job I had to phone up that I was avoiding applying for because of the scary phone call...can you tell I'm newly unemployed? I'm not going to get very far with that attitude am I?!
But after reading those few posts I just did it. :jAll they did was give me the e-mail address to send my CV and letter to. Couldn't they have put that on the Jobcentre ad? I didn't even give my name so they won't be able to have been judging my phone skills anyway!0 -
Am having interview nerves by proxy at the moment - actually feel slightly sick. It's not even me going for the interview.

So I bet you have another chance with them. I bet they didn't see it as as big a deal as you did.
Good luck.0 -
November5th, if they'd already told you you were going to second stage, it'd be pretty cruel of them to THEN decide you weren't based on something that happened AFTER the interview.
So I bet you have another chance with them. I bet they didn't see it as as big a deal as you did.
Good luck.
What has added to this is the relationship with the recruiter. She has been very demanding (you must do this, you must say that), took credit for my CV (she did help me with it but merely provided formatting help). I just have this mad mad feeling that she has taken against me and withdrawn me from the job?! She is not in the office today (I just called) but I feel like I have said something that has put her right off. Would a recruiter do that?0
