Thanks everyone for the CV advice. I will cut out the waffle and knock it down to 2 pages. It is a bit of a minefield, I went from 1 extreme to the other!0

I just cut down the CV to 2 pages without any major changes - I'd repeated things all over the place. I'm annoyed now because I spent ages today applying for my absolute dream job that would be perfect for me...I hope the waffly CV doesnt go straight in the bin and that they actually bother to read my application form!0

Would you still continue looking for a better job if you took the lower paid job? If so, I would take it. For one it'll look good in interviews as it shows you would rather work than not work.
Lack of confidence is my problem as well, I think that really hinders me in interview situations. And unemployment doesn't exactly boost self esteem!
Thanks for this. Yes I would be seeking other more appropriate work, and you are right, I think it looks better if I at least have some employment. Very relieved to know I am not the only one who suffers from lack of confidence
Just had some harsh words from o/h, maybe I should be changing him rather than my job:D . He says my lack of confidence is becoming self fulfilling, I say it is my personality trait and therefore experience tell me that it needs to be factored into any decision. Hey ho, I am sure a good sleep will cheer me up, onwards and upwards0 -
I have the opportunity not to be made redundant and get a less sought for job at reduced hours
I know it took my o/h 9 months to get a job when he was made redundant and a couple of my friends really struggled to get new jobs (well over 1 year)
How long has everyone been looking? If the average is around 9 months I could take the redundancy now and take the risk. If it takes longer then i would prefer the lower salary and the less sought after job with the good perks
Lack of confidence and timidity has always been my major weaknesses (not that I would admit that in any interview). To be very blunt as well I am not passionate about what I do (I mask that one as well) so I suspect that it would take me a long time to get another job
Personally, knowing what I know now, I would stay where you are at the reduced hours and rates. It took me over ten months to find another job and it certainly isn't one I would choose if I had the option. If you're happy where you are then maybe you should stay there while you continue to look for something better.
Drea, sorry about you being second choice after your interview, it really is annoying getting so close all the time. I hope this means you can continue to concentrate on setting up your own business.
Good luck to you all in your job hunting. I hope there is something just around the corner for all of you. If employers could read the sensible and supportive comments that you all make i'm sure they would be interested in employing you all straight away.
Best wishes to you all.0 -
Well, I'm second best again. Heard back from the agency interview, I didn't get it because the other person had recruitment experience but they waited for the chosen one to accept before getting back to me because I was the second choice. I'm ALWAYS the second choice! Still to hear from the other one.
What a shame, I'm sorry to hear that. It's happened to me many times now, I've lost out to someone for the sake of an extra six months' experience. It never seems to get easier.Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0 -
I just had an email returned for a job I applied for a few days ago, and I realised that stupidly I typed in the wrong e-mail address so my application never got there. The deadline has now gone. This was one of the jobs I was submitted for in the jobcentre. Does anyone know what will happen if they check and find out I didn't apply? Hopefully they will accept my excuse if they do!0

Sounds like a good plan - I think it's easier to get a job when you've already got one, if you'll still have time to apply - and if you're doing fewer hours you can use that extra time for job searching.
Sorry to hear you might not be getting as much support as you could be at home too... but of course you're not the only underconfident one! Interviews are bloody terrifying! :eek:0 -
I think I've had a bit of a disaster. I interviewed really well, interviewer told me I would be going to second stage, I got so excited by this I kind of lost it, a massive attack of nerves. I couldn't then remember the way out of the office, interviewer escorted me to the door while I made a rubbish joke about a time when I left a meeting and walked into a broom cupboard. Ha ha not.
I would like to laugh it off but I think I scuppered it
On the plus side their are other things on the go, but I am gutted really.
How strange to have started with such relaxed confidence, score, then completely lose it. It's knocked me for six.0 -
There are worse things that people will have done in their interview than get a bit confused about the layout of a building with which they are not familiar. I know it might seem a massive issue at the moment (did you wake up at 3am thinking about it, everything seems worse at 3am), but try not to dwell on it.

5am! Half the job is holding meetings with clients, this is why I see this as a big fail. The recruiter has also been really involved, which at first seemed great, but has just added to the pressure. I feel like this recruiter is holding all the cards and it is up to her whether I get second round or not.
Of course I could be over thinking this
Finding it hard to move on from this one.
Really tired of all this prepping and all the scrutiny, turning into a nervous wreck! Maybe I should just turn the phone off today.0
