I have the opportunity not to be made redundant and get a less sought for job at reduced hours
I know it took my o/h 9 months to get a job when he was made redundant and a couple of my friends really struggled to get new jobs (well over 1 year)
How long has everyone been looking? If the average is around 9 months I could take the redundancy now and take the risk. If it takes longer then i would prefer the lower salary and the less sought after job with the good perks
Lack of confidence and timidity has always been my major weaknesses (not that I would admit that in any interview). To be very blunt as well I am not passionate about what I do (I mask that one as well) so I suspect that it would take me a long time to get another job

Both me and my husband have been looking for 8 months now. He seems to be getting close to getting something though.

It's been a year for me but only seriously full time job hunting with a decent CV for five months.

I think I am hitting a low point today. I think the recruiter from yesterday hates me and I have made a big mess.

Try not to worry too much - you don't know that you've made a big mess. I've often felt like that only to find that the opposite is true.

Hey November, don't think like that. Of course the recruiter doesn't hate you! Better that you laughed the incident off than ran off crying. You're not being interviewed for a job that involves getting out of buildings, if you impressed them during the interview that should be what counts - the last bit might just make sure you stick out in their mind.

Try not to feel too bad, you've had lots of interviews this week haven't you, you're bound to be a bit frazzled.

I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?

November I have been in lots of interviews/assessment evenings[luckily doing the interviewing] and nerves affect many people so some very strange ways. I think a lot is the inability to know for certain 1.how we performed and 2.what the interviewer thought. People get nerves, its natural and any company should look beyond that and look for the key skills and what you can bring to their business.

I am rambling now but don't fret(easy to say I know) as you can not change anything, only move forward.

On that note I should start prepping for my interview *gulps coffee & slaps face*

I think I've had a bit of a disaster. I interviewed really well, interviewer told me I would be going to second stage, I got so excited by this I kind of lost it, a massive attack of nerves. I couldn't then remember the way out of the office, interviewer escorted me to the door while I made a rubbish joke about a time when I left a meeting and walked into a broom cupboard. Ha ha not.

I would like to laugh it off but I think I scuppered it :(

On the plus side their are other things on the go, but I am gutted really.

How strange to have started with such relaxed confidence, score, then completely lose it. It's knocked me for six.

At least you did well in the actual interview. This was me in my interview yesterday (applied for admin clerk but could be doing warehouse/ factory work to start with)....

(the bits in asterisks are what I was thinking)

Interviewer: have you done any warehouse/ factory work before?
Me: Yes I worked in a factory packing vegetables in Australia a few years ago.
    Interview: And how was it?
Me: *I hated every second of it - only lasted two days*
    I quite liked it....
*interviewer is looking at me - must keep talking*
....it was very long hours, 12 hour days....
*that doesn't sound good - I just told her I'd do overtime*
    .....which I don't mind occasionally.....
....sometimes we'd start at four in the morning....
*that also doesn't sound good - I told her I could work nights*
....and wouldn't finish until night time - I didn't see the sunlight....
*this is still making me sound like I wouldn't like the job*
.....I was on holiday so that's why it was so difficult....
*ok just stop talking, you're not helping yourself*

I'm usually good in interviews at not giving away anything negative I'm feeling about the job, but this time was thrown because I wasn't expecting to be talking about warehouse/ factory work and nothing on my CV suggests that I would be looking for this sort of work (only retail and admin work)

I know how you feel. My interview tomorrow is for a role within an industry I walked away from 2 years, hoping to never return but 1.I need the money 2.it gives me interview experience and 3.it will give me structure to my days (something I really miss).

only thing that im worried about is i will end up quitting after so long but i hope it doesnt come to that,

also applying for asda as well,

only downside is the waitrose store is a little further i was hoping to drive(was hoping for a job closer to home primarily 1 i could walk to if i had inspiration)

Sorry to hear about this but you did the most difficult bit (i.e., the interview) correctly. You should be proud of yourself for doing that. :T

I've sent off my second application to Asda this week. I applied for a home shopping picker job back in March - heard nothing back. This week I've applied for a checkout operator job. I used to do this 20 years ago in the same store so hopefully that will count in my favour even though things will have changed.

Good luck! I hope it goes well :)

I have one last thing to do this week which is an online copy edit test, how do people find these? Scary because you just get one shot at it and it's time limited...
