I've got to disagree, we had this very conversation today in the Princes Trust course. It's as bad as saying "I'm a perfectionist".
Agreed, some interview books will tell you to give a weakness that isn't really a bad thing, but I think most recruiters will see right through this sort of answer. I prefer to go with a genuine weakness that has nothing to do with the job or one that I am already working on improving (again one that won't stop me from getting the job).
I did hear a girl use "I'm a perfectionist" in a group interview I attended a few years ago, I thought what a load of rubbish, but the interviewers seemed to be smiling along. I don't know if she got the job or not, but I didn't!0 -
I have the opportunity not to be made redundant and get a less sought for job at reduced hours
I know it took my o/h 9 months to get a job when he was made redundant and a couple of my friends really struggled to get new jobs (well over 1 year)
How long has everyone been looking? If the average is around 9 months I could take the redundancy now and take the risk. If it takes longer then i would prefer the lower salary and the less sought after job with the good perks
Lack of confidence and timidity has always been my major weaknesses (not that I would admit that in any interview). To be very blunt as well I am not passionate about what I do (I mask that one as well) so I suspect that it would take me a long time to get another job0 -
Is it worth finding a phone number and giving them a call? Could it be there is a branch of this company local to you and they need somebody to fill the vacancy, head office has sent them artwork and they've forgotten to change the address before putting it in the paper?
If everybody else thinks it's in Surrey and it's actually local, there may be very few applicants.
i cant say ive seen it round here or even advertised before0 -
Well ive had to apply for waitrose, i didnt want to as i was trying to move away form food retail but as i dont hear anything back from jobs i apply for i dont have much choice plus im beginning to get slightly bored being home.0

I'm always/even on weekends/in my sleep, okay not the last one, thinking about my clients/tasks/etc...
Your weakness should be your dedication to the job (don't let it be though, it's just what they want to hear) but within a fair limit.
any weeknesses you turn into positives(think i read it on here somewhere)0 -

I know how you feel. My interview tomorrow is for a role within an industry I walked away from 2 years, hoping to never return but 1.I need the money 2.it gives me interview experience and 3.it will give me structure to my days (something I really miss).0 -

I've been looking for a permanent job for 4 months now. Although I had a temp job for a month of that so it isn't all bad.
It depends on whether you can cope without the money coming in for a long time. If you can then maybe taking that 9 months to find something better is worth it. If not, I'd avoid redundancy because it's not likely you'll find something tomorrow.Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -

Yeah i agree, im going onto 5 months unemployed first time in 19 years. And struggling to find anything. Not alot about.0 -
thanks shamrock77 & drea,
Getting grief off o/h for considering less hours and less pay but I really want to be happy as I can in what I am doing. I like the people where I work, am familiar with the work and like the convenience of the location. Luckily money is not a big issue for me, I am very cautious on spending and have always saved. O/h is not motivated by the same things as me (he just sees the money and does not seem to care how long he works and how often he sees our kids) and also appears not to be stressed by the same issues that I do.i am also the type of person who never gets bored, those extra hours not at work would soon be filled

Last time (about 2 years ago) I was unemployed for about 9 months. This time, it's only been a month so far, but I've been looking since last September and I've just started getting called in for interviews.
Would you still continue looking for a better job if you took the lower paid job? If so, I would take it. For one it'll look good in interviews as it shows you would rather work than not work.
Lack of confidence is my problem as well, I think that really hinders me in interview situations. And unemployment doesn't exactly boost self esteem!0
