Well I've had a pretty bad day today :(

I was supposed to be going to my prison visit today at 9am. I got up at 5.30am, starting walking to the bus stop at 6am, got to the bus stop at 7am then I found out it wasn't the right bus stop and that the right bus was 15 mins down the road (*bangs head against wall*). Missed the bus (the bus was at 7.02am). So it would have taken 1 hr 45 mins (includes bus journey) and that excludes the waiting about afterwards. The most unforgiving timetable too (the next bus would have got me in 30 mins late). I couldn't even have a rant at my boyfriend on the way home, as I had to leave to mobile at home as your not allowed them within prison boundaries.

So looks like I will be rejecting the interview and my feet agree (ouch!)x

That sounds awful, I'm really sorry you've had such a rubbish morning :-(

I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?

I still don't feel well at all :( Going to have a quick job search and maybe get into bed me thinks :) sent a job app off today, first one in a long time where it was by post rather than online/email. Forgot how expensive stamps had gotten

Hope you feel better soon - probably best to get yourself off to bed if you're feeling that rough :(

I sent an application off by post not so long ago. Two days later I received a letter saying the post had been filled. They must have sent that letter without even studying my CV. The closing date had not even been reached either. Depressing.

Saw a job in local paper yesterday that i liked and got to the bottom of the ad and its for surrey, why is a job for surrey in the local paper hundreds of miles away,

Is it worth finding a phone number and giving them a call? Could it be there is a branch of this company local to you and they need somebody to fill the vacancy, head office has sent them artwork and they've forgotten to change the address before putting it in the paper?

If everybody else thinks it's in Surrey and it's actually local, there may be very few applicants.

I've got no idea what's happening with my computer. I read all the posts and posted my post below and when I posted it another page of posts mysteriously appeared from nowhere!

I'm back from my interview. I now know why they picked me for an interview. I did my research on their website and it said they were an estate agency specialising in rural properties. I turned up at the interview today to be told that although they still have the same name they are in the process of separating from the estate agency side and will be a small company of agricultural auctioneers and I worked for an auctioneers when I left school (I'm 45 years old so you can see how long ago it was) and they recognised the name of the company I worked for. It was a strange and very relaxed interview as most of it was chatting about the "good old days" when they were a competitor to the company that I worked for but chatting I can do - its interviews I'm not very good at so I think it went well. They are only interviewing three people including me so fingers (and everything else) crossed as I've now gone from not wanting the job this morning to wanting it!

Excellent, hoping it works out well for you.

A massive thanks for the advice that it was a party I dreaded going to but ended up having a good time. Perfect.

Have just edited it so it is 'long winded and rambling' as you say but now it is 3 pages long! is that way too long? (I've had 5 jobs).

Mine is two pages long with 7 jobs on. I just go into more detail on certain ones and keep it brief for less important ones. It might be a good idea to keep the longer version for your own records, then tailor it for individual job applications ie make it shorter by cutting bits out that aren't relevant to that particular job role.

I had two interviews today. The first was advertised as an admin clerk in a goods warehouse. However, when I got there, it appeared that there wasn't an actual vacancy for an admin clerk, but I had to sign up with them for work which I'd be called for as and when it was available. Could be warehouse/ factory work, which I don't mind doing for the time being but do feel I was a bit misled by the job advert. Didn't really have a proper interview either, just filled out some forms then told that it will be passed to their recruitment section who may call me for an interview some time next week.

Second was for a call centre (no sales, which I'm happy about). Think it went ok, but it's just a p/t, temporary role so will have to keep jobhunting even if I do get it.

I was ill for about 2 weeks in Feb. I put it down to stress about unemployment as the illness kept changing - first stomach bug, then headache, then sickness, then cold. If you think stress could be causing your illness, just give yourself a chance to rest and don't make yourself feel guilty about it!

I've just done the opposite. I had a very basic CV with basically nothing on it, just a list of jobs really without even saying what skills I showed in each one. It was a bit rubbish because I thought if I did a basic skeleton CV then I could just send it out everywhere without changing it and do a good covering letter for each one but it was basically just rubbish. Have just edited it so it is 'long winded and rambling' as you say but now it is 3 pages long! is that way too long? (I've had 5 jobs).

I have been told 2-3 pages are the optimum but not sure how effective it is in the big bad world

    Hi everyone,

I decided to have the day off job searching today and spent the day with my godson instead. I came home before and checked the websites but cant really see anything to apply for, I will have a proper look later.

My CV is two pages long as well, I do agree that if it was much longer then people wouldn't be bothered to read it. I hope that those who have had interviews today have some good news from them. Did they mention when they will be letting you know if you got the job?
