Just having a bit of a break from a ridiculously long and in-depth application form. It seems that they want to know absolutely everything about me even though the role is only admin! It's giving me a headache!

I am exhausted, not slept properly in 3 nights so going to take a break from the whole job search as I have a day off for once and relax and watch tv and play games with lots of junk food :j

Luckily at the Job Centre today they let me sign on for tomorrow :D

Bad day today. My partner had an assessment yesterday for call centre work. This was following 2 separate in depth phone interviews which she passed with flying colours. She thought it had gone really well yesterday and really we'd both pinned our hopes on it. Got rejected this morning. My census work finishes tomorrow so unless I get the extra census work that's going around we'll be back battling through all the paperwork to go back on benefits. :(

Why does everyone keep saying "only admin", "it's just admin". That's what I do! Admin isn't only typing you know ;)

I think the point is that employers these days want a ridiculous amount of experience and qualification that aren't really necessary for the job, but they know they can ask for it because the job market is so competitive.

But you're right, admin is not just typing, and is becoming increasingly difficult to get into!

Admin is what I do and it seems like an impossible task to get a job nowadays just on merit. In my last job I was the administration and office manager for a magazine in London but it doesn't seem to count for anything, some places want a degree 'just' for an admin position and it's ridiculous. You don't need a degree to be a good administrator.

Equally, you don't need a degree to do most things if you have the experience.

True, but a lot of places seem to want qualifications AND experience. A lot of people have one but not the other.

I have a degree and a little bit of experience and for every interview I have had there has been someone with more experience, I was offered some bank admin work for NHS and really wish I had taken it now.
