I just wanted to wish everybody luck, I've not posted much but I've found this thread so useful and informative and wanted to say that if I can get a job (admittedly not the best paid but I'm very much on the bottom rung on the ladder to my ideal career when before I was just looking longingly at the ladder) then so can everyone on here. You are clearly all bright, hard working people and the circumstances are tough. I got so immune to rejection that it can't be healthy. It is a tough market out there and despite what Cameron says we aren't all in this together. Only a select group understand how tough the job market is and those are the ones that need to stick together, not those who don't and never will understand how tough it is out there.

First of all well done on getting the job and having the courage to re-locate. Remember that if you are at the bottom rung the only way is up so I hope this is going to be a path for better things for you.

Secondly, your last paragraph is well put and should be an inspiration to others who think their predicament is without hope - it isn't.

well done, do you have far to relocate

Only London from Southampton. I lived there from 2006-last December so still have things in storage, I'm aware that makes me sound like I was so sure I would be going back. There were times I doubted it would happen!

    Good Morning,

I was really hoping that there would be more jobs around this week after the Easter break but decent jobs seem to be few and far between! Welcome to all the new people hopefully you will find this thread as useful as the rest of us do!

Oh well back to the searching!
  • Well done Braintree, it's nice to hear of some success!! It doesn't matter that it's the bottom rung. It's a job!! Hooray!! :T

I have had one interview since September last year. I've never known anything like this, I've been out of work before but have always got a new job quickly. The scariest thing is that my husband hasn't got a new job yet either. We're living off the redundancy money which isn't going to last forever, obviously. We have absolutely nothing coming in now as the JSA has finished and we're not entitled to anything whatsoever.

I know we're going to have to go backwards to go forwards but no one will even give me an admin assistant job (too experienced apparently). I also applied to Asda for a home shopping picker job but got nowhere.

It's hard not to take it personally :(

I've stopped buying the local paper now unless there is something in it. I know its a bit cheeky but I go to Tesco, read the adverts and put it back if there is nothing for me to apply for (this is a moneysaving site and it does save me money!).

I've not read the whole thread so somebody has probably said this before but your local library will have all the newspapers there (Nationals for sure but presumably local papers too.) I went to one of mine to go through all the colour supplements for some info I needed this Tuesday!

After all my moaning yesterday I woke up to a voicemail (yep I slept in), turns out a job through an agency I applied for is actually to work FOR the agency so I have an interview tomorrow. And I have the one on Monday too so things are maybe picking up a bit again :)

    Well done Braintree :)

  • Morning All.

Yesterday I actually found a suitable job on the Jobcentreplus site......unfortunately not for me.. for my daughter who is after full time work as she's sick of just doing 15 hours a week for Argos.

Got to go tomorrow for my appeal over being finished on ill health, not holding my breath over them taking me back but have to go through the motions.:(,then in the afternoon have to go for my first interview at the Jobcentre over claiming for Jobseekers...at least it will get me out of the prison sorry house for a bit.
Time to tuck into the Jaffa cakes and hit the websites.

Good luck evrybody on todays quest for work!

  • I just saw a suitable job online, I felt optimistic reading the job description, nothing there that I don't have experience of!

My heart sank though when it said that an education to A level standard or NVQ equivalent is an essential requirement. I have neither, just 20 years experience which seemingly counts for nothing.

This was a clerical officer job BTW, hardly rocket science.

Hey everyone! :j I'm still about, I've been naughty, I've been applying for jobs when I told myself that I shouldn't before exams... So far 5 rejections (includes posts that have been readvertised - I hate this, not so bad if rejected first!) and 1 interview for the 16th.

Asparagusnext left - You should apply for it anyway, 20 years experience beats A-Level and NVQ hands down! :jAn essential requirement for the position I have an interview for was an ECDL and RSA3, I don't have either of these (and I can't type fast for toffee!)... Just makes sure you mention the 20 years experience at the top of the supporting information section, so they can't miss it.x
