    Morning guys.

Today marks 6 months since my last job finished :( I never imagined I would still be here, 6 months on, looking for work. I thought I would have managed to get something, shop work, cleaning, anything.

    Struggling today.

6 months is nothing, i'm currently in my 228th month search for my first paid job since leaving uni but i never give up.

i'm sure you'll get that job eventually if you keep trying, good luck:)
Martin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.

It would be a scientist I'm afraid, with lab based experience. But you're right, definitely worth an ask!! Hope something comes up for you soon :o

Me too, thanks for getting back to me :)

    No way :eek::eek::eek::eek:

This morning I have finally got in touch with the agency I emailed last week, the job I applied for has been put back a few weeks but I am still "in the mix", and they have nothing else at the minute.

Had a call from another agency with 'feedback' about a job I applied for. She said they wanted to meet me for an interview, I got very excited, then she told me they had filled the roles advertised, so clearly wasn't that interested in me, and wanted to meet to discuss as '0 hour contract' on a casual basis. I told them it's just not something I can take at the moment. If I was living on savings, or had somebody else supporting me financially, rather than just managing to live on £50 a week JSA, I would probably have gone and talked to them, but at the moment it's of no use to me at all.

No jobs again so far, I imagine next week will be just as bad, and probably the week after, with the wedding, Easter and half-term.

Its a shame most of us are having a bad week. I don't know what else to do. I really want to go self employed but I need a job to get it started. I've started on a business plan for my blog and I'm going to start another one for my freelance makeup business. I've got a couple of website domains set up already. The only problem I have is the saturation of the market I want to get into and trying to find a niche. Doing the business plan and research is the only thing keeping me sane whilst job hunting :(

Congratulations! Hope you manage to get the hours you want.

Thanks lexi, I can't help but feel they will say no, even though it was what I was interviewed for. Maybe I just feel so negative because I'm getting used to rejection. Had 2 rejection letters this morning. Nothing new to apply for all week so fingers crossed I have more luck at my agency appointment tomorrow

  • It really does seem like a bad week all round! I had another interviewy thing at the Job Centre, always a pleasant experience to go in there and walk out feeling like a moron lol. I'm definitely coming down with something, I feel awful. Going to try get a bit more of these job apps done I think.
  • Well the last iron I had in the fire has come to nothing. It was for a part time NHS clerical post, but recieved a letter yesterday saying that the post is now on hold due to unforseen circumstances.

There has been nothing to apply for for me all week, I have no applications pending now. Back to square one.

I have just had exactly the same, in an email regarding a part time NHS admin post! "[we] are waiting for some further Government guidance and therefore our recruitment is now on hold. Once we receive further information on how we can move forward we will contact you."

grrrr at employers thinking we are all wedded to mobile phones.

Find out that someone tried to call it today but left no message and it was from a '00000000000000' caller which I cannot call back. Unfortunately I am someone who thinks a mobile is an emergency device and simply havn't got into the habit of carrying it everywhere on the off chance.

I think the jobcentre are aware of how poor the website is in terms of jobs posted. I've not been given a print out for for my last two sign on appointments and I can't help but feel it is because they know there is nothing out there!

Sorry I've not introduced myself. I'm a longterm lurker, graduated in January with a History degree and have been signing on since February. I don't apply for as many jobs as some people here as I don't have the experience for them and I'm looking at a career in heritage so concentrating on those roles, when they come up!

Managed to get a job interview for next week and the jobcentre annoyed me by acting like it wasn't a proper job (I get a training bursary rather than a wage; I suspect they were annoyed because I won't have to pay tax on it!) so refused to give me a rail warrant. I did feel a bit guilty after saying that "You aren't willing to help someone even if the role gets them off jobseekers allowance?" as it wasn't the advisor's fault but to be honest I didn't like his attitude so didn't feel that bad as tried to explain, badly, how they work.

The advice from the charity who will be paying me was ask questions but I know how nervous I get (I think it is the lack of control) so would it look awful to have a folder with some questions in(I already plan to have one full of paperwork about the company to read on the train) that I could refer to if they give me an opportunity at the end to ask questions?
  • I often forget to take my mobile, but it does have an answerphone there if needed. Hmm this job (in a bank) wants to do a credit check, I keep meaning to send off for one myself to see if there is anything on there, I have 3 forms for Credit Reference companies but not got round to it.
  • Had a reply today advising me I had not been short-listed for a job I had applied for. Had spent 2 weeks working on the application and have 9 years experience in the job role. I have been caring for my mother for he last 2 years full time and can't help feeling having that on my CV is a hindrance

I had a conversation with an agency last week and the advisor amended my details to shorten the length of time I had last been in employment to make me appear more 'appealing' to clients. Can't win atm :( apologies for the rant lol
