    Okay,

Stand back everybody……… I’m about to do a Vince.

    I’VE GOT A JOB!!!! :j :j

After all these interviews in the past where I’ve stressed for days in advance, studied the company, rehearsed my interview techniques and thought of competency answers to questions, this is how it happens.

1.00pm. Phone call from an Agency. Would I like to be interviewed for a job at 4.00pm.

    4.00pm. Have interview.

4.40pm. Walk out from interview with a job.

Okay, the job is only temporary (though long term). It isn’t that well paid and is nothing like I would have envisioned me doing but it’s a job!! Somebody actually wants me!!

They wanted me to start tomorrow but I need to sign on with the agency first so I’m going to do that in the morning then start on Monday.

Can I just say to you all the biggest thank you possible. This thread has been fantastic in the support it gives and without you all to bounce off when I’ve had down days I don’t know where I would have been. Drea, starting this thread was a fantastic idea but I hope someday soon the need for it dies away.

I wish you all the best of luck in finding work I really do and I hope you won’t mind me continuing to pop in and see how you are all doing.

I still can’t believe it. Now, how to celebrate?

Hip Hip Hooray!!!:j Another one! Congratulations Stew

This just goes to show that the Mr. McCawber philosophy is no bad one as things can just drop out of the sky. All your preparation is not in vain though as you will have learned some valuable lessons you can use to find a long term job you want. Having a temp job need not stop you looking elsewhere secure that some cash is coming in.

I'm not unemployed but I have been there a couple of times so I can empathise and came across this thread and thought I could offer some advice. This is something you can now do so please do drop in as you can offer hope for those looking for work as an example that it can be done even in these dire times. Well done and celebrate with your favourite meal and a bottle of pop. :cool2:

hope you don't mind me asking but how do you become chartered as an engineer?

    congrats on the job stew:T
Martin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.

I don't mind at all, it's no secret.

There are two routes, the first is academic plus can demonstrate a level of experience and responsibility, the second is by experience & responsibility plus an engineering thesis. With the necessary qualifications (a Degree in Engineering) you join an Engineering Institute such as the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, Civil Engineers etc as a Graduate member.

These institutions hold a royal charter to nominate those members that satisfy the academic and experience qualifications levels needed for Corporate Membership - to become a Chartered Engineer. This is done by writing a career dissertation (glorified CV) and attending an interview. If you satisfy all the experience, qualifications and pass the interview the institute nominates you for registration at the Engineering Council. (....deep intake of breath....) Coughing up some serious dosh to upgrade your membership of the Institute and to register at the Council you then get to call yourself a Chartered Engineer with the letters C.Eng after your name. This is a legally protected title so your average "engineer" that repairs your toaster can't call themselves that.

I'm so happy for you, Stew. It's clear from reading your posts how hard you've tried to find work, so you really deserve this. Hope it all goes well and that over the course of the assignment, you manage to wangle a promotion. ;)

    Ooh well done! :j:beer::j

Life is so funny, you must have shown how great you are, and sometimes it's the interviews from nowhere that deliver really quickly... good for you.

Thanks for all the messages, it really is very nice of you. It just shows what a support network we've got here.

Heading out to the agency to complete paperwork with them and then into the job centre to tell them where to go (politely of course!). I'll see if I can get any payments to tide me over till payday as it's going to be extremely tight with the old overdraft otherwise.

I wish you all the good luck in the world in finding jobs, i'll still be looking as obviously i'd like something which pays a bit better.

    Catch you all later.

Well interview today so stomach churning etc... don't know why I get like but having to go back into jobsearch after over 10 years with the same company is daunting.

Have done my research so will just have to hope that they ask questions that I have answers to.

Will let you know how I get on.

CONGRATULATIONS Stew you really deserve it! I'm so pleased for you.

Well, I didn't get the job. The interviewer said that he could not offer me any negative feedback as they spent ages trying to decide between me and one other person. In the end they went with them because they had ten years experience as opposed to my six. He did say that he was very impressed and if anything came up then he would call me.

    Oh well onwards and upwards!
