I forgot to say. I've had an idea that could maybe help us all with our CV's. If we all took out the personal info from our CV, perhaps we could set up a little CV help group, and send our CV's to each other to try and get some tips on how to improve them? I don't know about anyone else but I do wonder if that is what is letting me down, plus it would be good to see other CV's and the style of them to see if I could make mine better.

Maybe a totally rubbish idea. I dreamt about it. I used to have a life!

    Lexilex,

That is a good idea, I was wondering how we could take it forward and have a suggestion. I designed and run a website for our church, I could create a page on there where I could paste our cvs onto (with personal information removed). I can protect the page so that only those with the password could access it (I could limit the password to only those of us with cv's on the site). I'm not sure how we could comment on the cv's without coming back to this site without having to link people's email addresses on the site (which I could do without showing the actual email address) but of course only those of us with access would see the links.

The website doesn't sell anything so this isn't a scam to get you to buy anything, you would have to email your cv's to me for me to put on the site and I promise I wouldn't do anything with your email addresses.

Let me know what you think, i'm happy to put this together (I have some spare time for some reason :rotfl:). I'm going out to the gym for a couple of hours but i'll be popping back in later.

    Good luck today all.

How about a google group or a private blog format Stew? Each posted CV would ba available for comments. I will set up an example later and we can see what would work for the group.

    Here we go http://supporteachotherinlookingforwork.blogspot.com/

I have posted up the CV format I was given that worked wonders for me!
I will add links to useful CV/Interview tips sites I have found.

hi all, great idea about checking each others cv's with advice. I'd be up for that, I always find it difficult to judge and promote my own skills :)

Hi I think this is a good idea - although I'd put my CV together and got an interview on the back of it, I ran it past one of my Next Step colleagues and he made some brilliant suggestions which got me another interview. Although I was helping people put together CV's every day, it's difficult when it's your own. You know what you want to say, but often someone else can just give it that final tweak.

    Welcome to the newbies.

November, I know exactly how you feel today!

Sat here dressed in my interview outfit ready to walk out the door, hair is an absolute disaster (it likes to annoy me on days when I need it to look okay) and just not feeling confident at all. Usually feel okay about interviews recently but for some reason I'm just feeling it today. Oh, and it's raining, there goes my hair even more...
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.

I got a job on a bad hair day, and the rain gives you every excuse :)
  • I remember trying to dry my hair under a hand dryer before going into an interview - got some VERY strange looks as I gyrated to try and at least get my hair dried (fortunately it was very short at the time).

You are the right person for the job - so sock it to them and the very best of luck to you.
