November, you are so dedicated to job hunting! I wish I had the same motivation.

I have an interview this afternoon, today shall be spent finding out about the company.

Ha ha yeah, I'm loving it now! Good luck for this afternoon, nail it!
  • If you are using agents to apply for jobs how about asking them to review your CV for free? After all it's in their interests as well to get you into work or they don't get their commission.

Also have you tried tayloring your CV to the job you are applying for? Doing some background research into the company would also help in matching your experience to their requirements in the job specification. This will help you stand out from the rest of the applicants.

I've been so desperate to get a job that I've tried more of a scattergun approach rather than spending time researching a particular organisation. I worry that I'll miss out so I just think about sending something, perhaps anything, rather than doing less to get more so to speak.

I've got two more agencies to speak to (one of them specialises in mature candidates) and I'll get them to have a look at my CV. I'm going to do some voluntary work and perhaps the HR department will be kind enough to help me.

    Thank you Chartered Eng. :)

Good luck with your interview Drea!!

I am a bit peed off. Just been talking to a friend who is in her final year at uni, she was telling me how she has a job for when she has finished. She's not applied for a single thing and is going to walk out of uni and into work. I am really pleased for her, but it's a bit of a kick in the teeth when here I am 8 months after graduate and almost 6 months out of work with nothing. What is wrong with me??

there is NOTHING wrong with you, 6 months out of work is nothing. i've been searching for my first paid job for 19 years since graduating and i never give up. persistence is the key and my ambition is to get some paid work before i retire.

keep trying, i'm sure a job will come your way:)

There is nothing wrong with you, she just got lucky! There are so many people out of work at the moment, there just isn't enough jobs for everyone! You'll get your lucky day too :)
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.

The scattergun approach is no bad thing but if a job comes up that you are particularly interested in then that is the time to do some reseach and taylor your CV to suit. It will improve your chances of getting to the next step, the interview.

Your next employer is out there, they just don't realise it yet.

Another advantage of tailoring CVs is that it makes you think much harder about what you have done. I had missed out a valuable skillset I had forgotten about until two weeks ago and I have been working n my CV for months.
