My Mom has just given me some money to put into my bank account as she doesn't want to see me going overdrawn and worrying. She really didn't have to do that, it's very kind of her.
At times like this we all need the support we can get. I can't imagine going through certain things on my own.

Congratulations looby! Its always good to hear about someone being successful in the neverending job hunt - even if I am a little jealous.
aww I'm sure it will be your turn soon.

Believe this morning I felt like poo. I had to sign on and I HATE doing that, what a difference a few hours make, you never know what news the next phone call might bring.

It's true we do. I think she's happy to help as I'm too stubborn to admit when I need help. I've always been the same

I got the job (subject to the usual integrity checks)

Congratulations! I hope your checks comeback fine. :T

I heard back from the recruitement agent about the third interview. I was given the choice of Friday, or one of two appointments on Monday... I chose the furthest away appointment to allow me time to prepare over the weekend and to arrange time off work... so Monday at 1pm it is! eek! THIS IS IT

I was advised it would be competency based (as always) and a discussion of my CV. The two people who will be interviewing me are wanting to know about my personality and how this fits in with the team.... so I really have to sell myself but try not to look desperate! :rotfl:

Can anyone offer some help? what kind of questions can I ask with regards to finding out more about the team/the comany's culture and how I would fit in???
  • I was offered a job last week and was over the moon. It was only a cleaning job but it was a job at least. I've just done a few days and the people are lovely but there seems to be an issue with them and my employer although they keep stressing that they are really happy with my work. It looks as though the job will end on Friday and I'll be back to square one!! I'm devastated as I was really getting into it and tomorrow will be exactly 1 year to the day I last worked (start of gardening leave and eventual redundancy). I'll wallow in self-pity tonight and then get on with it tomorrow but a big Congrats to those that have managed to secure a job and to those that have interviews, Good Luck!!
  • I've been signing on since December and I'm trying to stay motivated but it's tough. I haven't had a single interview even for jobs that I thought was well qualified for. Well there was one but I got a call to say that the job had been reorganised, whatever that means.

I've tried different tactics: applying for jobs that I was over qualified for, jobs that were a step up from my usual role, jobs that focused on a particular skill like database administration rather than the variety of skills that I have developed from working for a small organisation. I did everything from sales, marketing, database maintenance to general administration.

It's got to the stage where I feel guilty if I don't look for a job every day but when I get an application, I feel so stressed, I don't know if I'm writing anything that makes sense.

I've received conflicting advice about my cv and I may have no option but to spend money getting someone to rewrite my CV.

At least reading the posts on here makes me realise that I'm not alone. :)

If you are using agents to apply for jobs how about asking them to review your CV for free? After all it's in their interests as well to get you into work or they don't get their commission.

Also have you tried tayloring your CV to the job you are applying for? Doing some background research into the company would also help in matching your experience to their requirements in the job specification. This will help you stand out from the rest of the applicants.

    My interview - critique

The simplified job description I did was a massive winner, yet I did not refer to it enough.
With the interviewer focusing on 'me' and 'my achievements' it was difficult to stay focused and pull the interview back to the core skills required (should have stared at my job desc.!), so I came across well but perhaps not what they need.
I am perhaps too much of a plain speaker and need to use more industry terms.

I am dearly hoping for a second interview (I will excel at the presentation they want, I know it) the positives to date are:

I am more than capable of a decent mid level management role at an international corporate
I really do know my stuff but need to work on cutting out the fat
I thought of questions, wrote them down, and asked them

So I am still really rough around the edges but now I know what needs a polish :)

I have a phone interview this afternoon which I am finding it hard to drum up enthusiasm for, and am also back in bed with the laptop while I work on the issues I need to fix.

This is a damned long haul but I am simply more determined then ever. Mentally it likes learning how to be again after a bad accident. I should have just walked it yesterday, truly, it's like standing outside yourself and wondering where you've gone.

Surely, it can't be long now :)

November, you are so dedicated to job hunting! I wish I had the same motivation.

I have an interview this afternoon, today shall be spent finding out about the company.
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.
