I opened a packet of Tesco long beans today and although I personally checked every bean there were no worms.

Does anyone have any advise on what to do about this? Should I report them? make a formal complaint?
Get in touch with the OP and have their surplus worms? :)

With no disrespect meant, what a load of rubbish. If you want to pay a massive premium for food that has been scrutinised individually, feel free to do so. The rest of us are happy to wash produce that comes from the earth and not make a fuss.

Oh thats fine, if you feel so strongly about it, your views dont anger me, but mine obviously bother you..

I'm just saying, I find it extreamly offputting - and would not eat this food if any type of bug had been present for me to see. I don't feel the need to patronise people just because they don't feel the same as me, about a petty subject.

Where do you draw the line with scrutinising food, what next, maggots - oh no, they are organic some will say, bring on the rats in baked beans hey! dust anyone? dust?:rotfl:

It reminds me of when my Sister found a Slug in a cabbage. She has never had Cabbage since (A good 30 Years later).

My worst moment was an Orange, I normally peeled and ate Oranges, but this particular day I decided to cut it in half, calling my mother over to enquire what these things were in the Orange.....a family of Grubs nestled in the heart of the Orange. I have always dissected all Fruit since that day.

Its not something you expect when purchasing fruit or veg from a supermarket, home grown produce, I would expect to be riddled, but certainly not pre packed, and sold on the aisles. A lot of people, myself included, would not want to be plucking bugs out of veg. Its why we buy produce rather than grow it ourselves.

If i had the time i would grow mine. A bigger garden would help - so i buy from the shops for convenience. how can even a supermarket check inside an orange that any bugs were in there?

I think they should XRAY all their produce.

    Only kidding!

I think they can be forgiven for stuff that can't be seen, but its still offputting

I cannot imagine a supermarket would, particularly as the supermarkets do not grow, wash, package or produce the items, a Supermarket normally buys their produce wholesale and sell them on as retail to the consumer.

Its inevitable that one or two items may slip through the net untreated, particularly with fruit n veg, of course that does not make me NOT buy Oranges, although it does however make me dissect them before I eat them, just to be absolutely sure.

I would not grow my own veg (although the garden is big enough), because I dont want to be pulling out grubs. I still cringe when seeing an Earthworm, I couldn't touch one...YUK!!!!

Lol, thats nothing, I saw a Maggot on the bin lid once (when we had metal dustbins), I ran into the house screaming like a girl, straight upstairs to have a hot bath. I was about 25 at the time. As you can imagine, I would be no good at fishing ;)
