Car Ownership / Insurance Question

Hi all,

I was wondering, I own a car and my other half is insured on it, on his own insurance. Do I have to be insured as well as I am the owner? I won't be driving it and cannot afford insurance at present. Thanks.

Is the Car insured or is he driving it thinking he will be covered under his insurance policy ie on a different car? If that is the case the a seperate policy will be required. But it could be in anyones name not necessarily the owner.

The car is registered in my name. He was insured on his car but that's died so he is using mine. He has changed his insurance over so it reflects my car. I won't be insured on mine though. Is this a problem? Must the owner also be insured?

Thank you so much.
• Yes a different person can be insured on your car as the policy holder, I believe that the insurance company do ask though who the registered owner is, but its not an issue. You can also be a named driver on his policy and then are free to drive the car.

Sorry Lucy, but you are not making much sense here, it would help if you could answer these questions:
• Who is the registered keeper of the car?
• Is the car insured in its own right?
• If it is insured, who is the policy holder?
• Does the policy cover any other drivers-Spouse, other named driver?
• Your husband's insurance-what car did it cover?

I own the car but am currently not insured on it or driving it. However my partner is going to use it and he has changed his insurance over to my car so they know I own it and that he wants to drive it. I am
not going to renew my insurance and will not be driving the car but will remain the registered owner.

You need to be sure the insurer now covering the car knows that the policyholder is neither owner nor registered keeper.
• i once tried to change my insurance over to my sisters car as mine broke and i need a car so she said use hers.

they wouldnt do it becuase i would be the registered keeper so i had to change it into my name for 3 months and then change it back to hers adding to former keepers to the log book lol

Then you have a !!!! insurance company, or an incompetent advisor.

Sorry if I sound blonde!!

So as long as his insurance company know that i own the car, he can get insured. And it doesn't matter that I will not be renewing my insurance or driving it?? Thanks

Yes, as long as his insurance company issue a policy SPECIFFICALLY for that car.

(Sorry for shouting, but I felt it necessary to emphasise the point)
