Possible repercussions of leaving negative but honest feedback?

Over a week ago I purchased an item on eBay, costing £35, and paid instantly using PayPal. After several days of hearing nothing I sent a polite email asking when I might expect to receive the item. No reply, so I sent another. This time I received a very aggressive reply accusing me of 'hounding' the seller and threatening to 'give me negative feedback' if I didn't 'back off'. As to when I might receive the item...I was told 'there is plenty of time'.
Looking through the sellers feedback there are hints of people having bad experiences and finding the seller rude and aggressive, but at the same time most people seem to receive their items eventually.
I must say that I have found all this a very upsetting experience but wonder as to the possible repercussions of giving an honest report on the transaction if and when matters are concluded.
Can anyone advise?

As long as you receive the item, the worst thing that will happen is that the seller will leave you negative feedback in return.0

if u do receive the item but it takes an unreasonable time to arrive maybe a neutral feedback is called for(just stating the facts)if they leave u feedback first that would be ideal,if not & u realy want to make a point but are worried about being neged back u could always wait till just b4 the 90 days for leaving feedback is up.

Sod the git. If he/she is rude and agressive post his email reply as feedback. They are only getting away with it because they probably threaten everyone the same.

If other people had been more honest and left negative feedback explaining truthfully why, would you have bought the item in the first place? By not leaving neg feedback you will join the throng of people who do not have the conviction to state the truth for fear of reprecussion (which can easily be explained in a follow up to a neg feedback) and hence lead others like yourself into buying from this seller.0

Do many people want to have this "aggro" in life or do they just want a cheap deal?
If your not happy with dealing with the "on-line" up and coming "traders" then you must look at other avenues of buying what you require.
I never answer questions, "on-line", by post, or in the town unless they are prepared to pay for my time.
Therefore I would not provide feedback to any "on-line" company about their service, unless they pay for my time.

Personally I would leave negative feedback, stating that when chasing your goods/item "you had paid for", that you were threatened with being left negative feeedback form the seller.
Would you recommend a shop where the staff are rude???
I think not, and ebay sellers need to be kept in check, out of my 30 purchases on ebay I have had to leave 3 negative feedbacks due to false descriptions. And I would expect the same of anyone If I had blatantly lied to them too.0 -

You are right if you buy "on-line" .

If you leave Neg feedback it may encourage other to leave negs for this person! You are better off leaving it for a while - he is obviously gonna wait til you do leave it feedback!
As for the amount of time he is taking sending your item - how long has it been? You could suggest to him that you would start Paypal Chargeback proceedings to get your money back - see if that puts a rocket somewhere! Also suggest that it would be a shame if you both got a negatvie feedback for a transaction that could be sorted amicably if communication was not a problem! You need to stand up to him! what is his feedback rating?Angel

Thanks angelcake and everyone else for your input.
This is today's email from my seller....
"What on earth is your problem..if you want to bombard people with e-mails then that is up to you...you have plenty of time to recieve your ring...please get of my back and get a life...i will leave the feedback as you...get a grip and back of"
This was in response to a polite request for information regarding when he would be despatching my item. As for the 'bombarding', well I would not have sent 3 emails if he had replied with the information in the first place!
It is just over a week now since the transaction...am I being unreasonable in wanting to know when I will receive the item? Is it against the 'rules' to contact a seller and ask this question?
I did check his feedback before purchase...in 12 months he has had 1262 positive, 34 neutral and 16 negative. There also was lots of 'mutually agreed' withdrawn feedback. The complaints were all about slow delivery, poor communicatiom, no response to email, being abusive and calling people idiots.
How long is it usual to wait before starting PayPal Chargeback proceedings, (not that I am thinking of it at present)?
Sorry for the moaning but this has really got to me!!!:(♥♥♥ Genius - 1% inspiration and 99% doing what your mother told you. ♥♥♥0 -
Sellers like this really bug me. So many of them dont leave you feedback until you leave them feedback. Even if you paid instantly using pay pal. How unfair is that? Surely if you paid instantly you should get positive feedback from the seller regardless of whether you left him bad feedback or not. The other week i bought something and paid within minutes of the auction finishing. I then waited 2 weeks and hadnt heard anything from the seller, so mailed him and he said delivery could be upto 5 days. I asked about my feedback as you couldnt get a better buyer than me. He said he would only leave me feedback once i left him some.
Item turned up 15 days after purchase and i wasnt happy with this, but felt like i had to leave positive feedback just to get my positive feedback back.
On another instance, i actually waited until a buyer gave me positive feedback, then gave them negative.
It just seems that there are some petty people out there who will give you negative just because you give them it.
In the case of the original poster, id give them negative and if they do the same, follow up with the fact that you paid instantly and the seller obviously is an idiot.0
