Thirdly, massive outlay cost, for a stupid box on wheels.
Not all boxes on wheels the Chevrolet (pictured) has onboard generator also. Extension lead perhaps.
It may be a massive outlay but at pence per charge not £'s per tank you are missing out the TCO.
But it sounds like you want cheap travel but still in Diesel or Petrol?0 -
I started car sharing this year, petrol needs to double before I'm worse off. I#m also swapping my petrol for a diesel in a few months.
Don't moan, take action
Genius, now I just need to do one of the following:- Find a job paying an equivalent amount with a noticably smaller commute.
- Persuade my company to move 30 miles to suit me.
- Persuade an employee to move next door, and be willing to wait around if I'm in late etc.
- Buy a new car.
I'm glad you were able to arrange a convienent commute that saves you money. I'll be even glader when you realise that the world isn't centred around you, so the options available to you aren't always the best ones for other people.
Personally I'll continue to pick my job and location based on where works best for my partner and I's careers. As much as spending an extra £200-£400 a year on petrol is going to be a pain, the flexibility provided earns us significantly more.Having a signature removed for mentioning the removal of a previous signature. Blackwhite bellyfeel double plus good...0 -
Petrol could be 2 pounds a litre and people still wouldn't give up their cars- people could build their lives around not needing a car, but they prefer not to, and so the govt is right to screw them over big time.
This is such a lovely view but totally rubbish as far as I can see. I live not far from a city centre but you can not get work there for love nor money, there is nothing close to me as it has all been shut down. Leicester did have a massive textile industry but over the years that has all gone and now become yuppy flats.
My husband works in the next major town and does 12 hours night shifts, he could not get a bus or train if his life depended on it. He could of course quit his job tomorrow but to do what ? Go on the dole , yep very practical.
when I was a child you could live and work in the same area (think pit towns like Bulwell )but so much has closed down now that it is no longer possible and as such transport becomes an issue.
How do you expect people to work when there is no bus service and petrol is so high ? No only does it effect our working day but it also adds to our food bill, clothes bill, etc etc
We do need to find something better then the fuel we are using now but that does not mean making it harder for working people to get to work.
Oh that turned into more of a rant then I wanted :rotfl:There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

I stopped one of the library visitors and asked about hers as she pulled up. It was only the same price as a good non-electric pushbike and it gets up and down the hills round here. If prices go up much more this is something I'd seriously consider as it would only take about 6 months for me to achieve break-even.
I paid Just under £500 for one. I have a 6 mile each way commute and some good cycle lanes (would not do it otherwise).
1-1 pedal assist or accelerate and go.I think it works out about 3p for 50 miles assisted pedaling per charge.

Eh? how are the first 3 relevant? I can only assume you misread my post or misunderstood it.
As for 4, swapping cars for a more efficient one is hardly outlandish is it?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Its getting really expensive to get petrol/diesel now
I already drive very little but some trips I need the car and have no choice as I am sure many others dont
You can drive less leisure, go to shops, gym but some things you need a car if you live some distance etc
It may have long term damage to places that rely on passing trade or are not close to towns/transport links0 -

Cheers Really. My mileage is about 8-10k pa, about 1/2 distance 1/2 local. If I could cut my local journey costs that would be a dramatic saving. I'd only need to go max 4 miles each direction, though possibly some of those I wouldn't use bike for as roads are a bit treacherous. I think I'd need accelerate and go though. I don't mind walking up a 1 in 10 hill for a mile, but I'm b*ggered if I'm going to ride a bike up it.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Really2, I have a motorbike for the summer, it's quicker to commute and costs half the amount in fuel, t'is well worth it, wouldn't recommend it in the winter though! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Have a go on an ebike, it is real easy, I went up my 1:10 like it was flat on a test.
It is lazy but will keep you a lot fitter than a car.
I can only cut out 2 days a week and that is only for three seasons a year (due to taking son to nursery those days) But I think I should save all going well around £30PM on fuel.
I should also be able to save money on insurance (less miles).
But you can tell I am no longer care free, I have all the safety Kit, even a rear view mirror/ right hand indicator.
I am not cool, just safe.0 -

I have the ebike, 3p 50mile and £25 to service PA no tax or insurance.
We have an old rail line running through our district that was converted in to a walk and cycle road no cars for 95% of my journy:j.
I did look at e-moped etc but I felt the cycle rout would be the safest as the main road is a dual carriageway to work.
Cycling in my area in theory should be less dangerous than other modes of travel if done correctly as you can avoid motor contact.0
