Boots 75% sale NOT going ahead

The odd thing is that in the press after christmas there was a lot of stuff about bigger reductions because of the impending VAT rise and the amount of stock left due to the bad weather.
Yet here we are seeing Boots do the opposite and hanging on to stock for dear life. We all know that retailers like to move old stock on asap because it is dead money hanging around otherwise, so why would they cancel a 75% off sale when there are pockets of stores with a lot of stock?
My OH (a Boots SA) has now overheard a conversation that it will be very short notice when it is to go ahead so the plot thickens. If it does go ahead, you can only draw your own conclusions as to why some staff are saying it wont happen this year etc. Have they got staff on here doing it on purpose? Even OH and colleagues think its a complete joke what they are doing.
Staff arent even allowed to use discount for the 75% sale for the first time this year. Now why say that for a sale that isnt going to happen???0 -

Thanks Keith for the info, I remember from last year you kept us all updated, wondered if you would again this year.
I agree Boots look like they are hanging on to stock in shops in my area, I have never seen so much stock at this time of year for Boots especially previous OOTWs. Someone definitely misjudged the figures this year I think. It has been very quiet in my local and I really thought they may have had good sales last weekend after shelves were restocked last week but they looked almost untouched this week.
In my opinion Boots will not be able to afford not to have a 75% sale this year as I think lots of us cannot afford the 50% prices.:eek:0 -
One factor in this is the changing attitude of retailers. Firstly, a lot of the stuff is gift packed. That means that if Boots write off and recycle the packaging they can claim against their overall packaging tally.
Secondly, after years of gathering loyalty card information, they've probably worked out that selling at 75% has a large impact on full price purchases the following year. Given the size of retail markups, it probably makes more business sense to dispose of the stock instead of selling at 25% SRP.
Supermarkets work on the same principle....our local Tesco was throwing away loads of large ham joints on New Years Eve for the same reason.0 -

Wear disposable gloves if you do! The place is now filthy, with half opened tat strewn all over the place, and not at all inviting. And I'd love to know where the elusive Clearance store is at Basildon.
Somebody suggested we boycott Boots. Well, I'm going one step further .................. I'm not going to wash, so there.:p

Well I would be most surprised if they don't have a 75% sale as they have already had all the promotional material printed.
Who knows what their thinking is this year.
I'm going back to look on Amazon as I'm a bit fed up of Boots now.
Boots loss is Amazon's gain!
Oh I've just noticed i have a gold star now? When did that appear?
Is it after you have posted so many times?0 -
We've got a little tiny (rubbish) Boots where I live but there's shedloads of stuff on the sale aisle. Gift sets and Christmas stuff. I was tempted by the gift sets but I'll wait till it goes down further or I shan't bother at all.0

Would join you Sandra, trouble is if I'm honest I've probably got enough toiletries stashed around the house to keep me going until next years 75% sale. Even though I judged all my gifts well I have odd bottles of shampoo, shower gel etc reduced courtesy of Mr Boots throughout 2010! :rotfl:0
