Help MBE grow his dinner 2011

Hi everyone,
Fingers crossed some pics come out and aren't huge (been trying for ages!)
Rhubarb at top (obviously) which isn't doing great, should I start forcing it?
Yes, you could start forcing the rhubarb, unless it's very young, in which case leave it until next year. Then the chillis, only 2 varieties from the real seed company-early jalapenos which are doing well, and pretty in purple-not so well. The PinP are very small indeed-is this normal or have mine gone horribly wrong? Also, should I be potting them on yet, or waiting...and should they still be in the propagator. There is a lot of conflicting advice on this, I'm worried about keeping the lid on in case they rot!
The chillies look great to me. You should only keep them in the heated propagator until they've germinated, or they will die (got the T-shirt!) So get them out as soon as you can. The Pretty in Purple can be quite slow starters. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Excellent, thanks MBE. I don't own a heated prop yet, I managed to get the chillis and peppers going in normal cheap progatators that I placed next to the aga. I also germinated a few of the chilli seeds by putting them on damn kitchen towel near the boiler (no airing cupboard), but I managed to roast the jalapenos seeds that way
but the PinP did ok and some of those are the ones growing now.
I think the rhubarb is a well established plant, we only moved in October so have no idea what else is lurking ready to pop up-which is quite exciting!0 -
I checked my rhubarb whilst out the back today.... and there is absolutley nowt there yet
But it is still quite cold up here.... and it was snowing on Monday ... Hopefully soon, I will see a few new shots0 -
I'm not forcing my Rhubarb but have a few shoots poking through, got some in the Garden and also got 3 lots up at the Allotment. We love Rhubarb and couple of my friends love it too so we can't grow enough of the stuff.;)
Got a day to myself today, it's Half Term but DD's are off out with friends today so I shall tidy out the Greenhouse and get some Seeds sown - I'm a bit behind on last year but been trying to keep on top of the Allotment and waiting for a dry day. Shall keep the Seeds indoors though as my Greenhouse is not heated.:)"WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

Got loads of Seeds sown last week so feeling a lot better about things, got some in the Greenhouse and some indoors. Yesterday I put some more Broad beans in up at the Allotment and tomorrow I plan to put some Peas in, got some Early peas and some sugar snaps which I've never grown before but like to try something new now and again.
Plan to sow some more seeds at the weekend, looking at my packs there are loads that can be started in March so looks like I'm going to be busy.
How are you all getting on?:)"WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.
