Thanks. I do like to see a few piccies, to see what other people are up to. Either that's a tiny part of a great big garden or you don't eat much but beans. :rotfl:
Talking of which, mine still haven't germinated.

Suddenly they flowered so I tried nursing them. Unfortunately they were in pots that were too small, so I didn't do great off them, but the fruit was nice. I tried again last year & after a while planted then out. They grew a lot better! Again the fruit was really tasty! In fact, my cucumbers were one of the most popular items.
My cucumbers are pretty large and gorwing up wigwam poles wrapped with string in some old tyres in my garden. I have beans climbing up the other poles of the wigwam. However, some of the leaves on the cucumbers have patches on them which look dead - brown and dry. These leaves are also edged with these dead areas.
Any idea what this could be? I've been watering them every day (it hasn't rained here for weeks!) and feeding them with seaweed and a mix of comfrey and nettle soup. The compost in the tyres is new and has fish blood and bone mixed in with it. What am I doing wrong??
Cheers

Alix, it sounds like a bit of wind burn, or possibly frost damage. Are they in an exposed location, or has it been cold at night lately? Or both.

Ooh, could be wind burn - it's been dry and windy recently and they were swept around a bit by the wind. We've had a few cold nights but not frosty as far as I know and the beans are absolutely fine - they'd be damaged too if it was frost wouldn't they?
Thanks for the reply.
All the best

Give them a chance man! And how do you know they haven't germinated, they may have done, just not come out of the soil yet. How long have they been in and have a very gentle dig down to see if you have any activity.mrbadexample wrote: »Thanks. I do like to see a few piccies, to see what other people are up to. Plenty of time yet, no rush at all.
It's quite a big garden, I probably have about 9 or 10 times the size of that bed you see, in veg growing space and then alot of fruit as well. Plus the greenhouse. But it's not huge by any means, the growing takes a large chunk of what the kids could play in, which I don't like, but I practice what I preach and I believe people with big gardens should grow their own.
We do eat alot of beans though, I can't wait, I don't allow us to buy any beans from the shop, reasoning I grow them to freeze and I hate flown in food. I really really look forward to the first fresh beans of the year, the frozen ones are just being finished up now.
To be fair though, the main lot at the back are what we would normally have, maybe a bit more. The hybrid ones are just an experiment and I'm growing 22 of those to try to get a decent stable bean at the end of a few years. It has great promise
Half way up the right side, behind the 2 troughs of spring onions, you can see my largest courgette out, hopefully I'll be eating one in 2 or 3 weeks. Another thing I look forward to

My cucumber plant leaves are going/gone white with green veins and curling up at the edges. It is in a shaded greenhouse. Can anyone advise what causes it and what to do with it. TIA0
