I've had a few carrot and beetroot "thinnings", but nowhere near a proper size yet.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Carrots were good but the beetroot were only just bigger than golf balls.0

I appear to have garlic growing in my garden. I'm pretty sure I planted some a couple of years ago, had no success, and it's now randomly appeared. When do I know it's ready, and what do I do?! Just pull it out?
I really am useless at this.0 -

I know the feeling well. You lift and carry fertiliser sacks/compost/feed sacks/straw bales all day long, no problem, then you bend to pick up a sweet wrapper and you're crippled for the rest of the week.
If I'm over the hill, where was the top?0 -
MBE - don't thank me for my post, tell me what to do!!0

Hi Little Vics
Let your garlic stand until the green bits go brown - like raffia. Mine will be ready to pull about the middle/end of July. Then you need to dry them out like onions.
However, if you have a decent supply of garlic you can probably start pulling it one at a time now for immediate use. This is known as wet garlic. Doing this also enables you to check on the development of your bulbs.

I don't know! I've never grown garlic!

Lovely weather here at the mo. Shame the forecasters are predicting rain for when we play bowls tonight. They've been wrong every day for the past 7, so here's hoping...
Meanwhile, question ... I have pea pods on my pea plants!:j
How do I know when to pick them?:o
Peas are absolutely my favourite vegetable.
I also have tomato flowers!:j
B&Q also returned (eventually) with the right shed. I put it up yesterday & took the old one apart. I plan to use bits of the old one for raised beds or similar. I also spent most of yesterday repotting a lot of my tomato plants. Greenhouse space is getting low...
Pepper plants appear healthy, but are very slow to grow! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0
