Tesco & coupons

Hi

After hearing that some of you use your coupons in tescos without purchasing the product. I decided to save some coupons up and use them in the nearest tesco. So i bought what i needed to buy and the coupons over to her but the lady at the till wouldnt accept any of them.So i went all out of my way for nothing. Has this happened to any one else before and do tesco have a coupon policy i am really annoyed so any help would be ralyy well appreciated
Thanks

  • Hiya aleex - Tesco do have a coupon policy but it is inconsistent and hit and miss. I make considerable savings each week using vouchers but some weeks they are all refused on the basis that I have not purchased the product. My favourite 2 phrases are:

    1) Voucher acceptance is a bonus BUT not an automatic right
    2) Tescos cashiers do not sing from the same hymn sheet.

Also, if the cashier does not press a certain button then the till will not accept any vouchers. I have had it happen before and asked them to try again and they have been accepted.

  • I do think they have tightened up in the light of the company/small business association (can't remember official name) threatening to do something (?) about the supermarkets accepting when the item has not been purchased. Someone posted a link to an article about this a couple of weeks ago. Since then Kidsgrove Tesco (Stoke on Trent) have refused all tokens from me and OH, whereas before they were always happy to take a few. SA s say they have been told not to accept unless you buy the product. Still always worth a try at other branches. I thought I might give Waitrose a go as other MSE ers say they accept them. I'd like to use up my little stash, rather than waste it. Good luck.

Asda have a new policy on self service, up to £3 I think.
What is the Tesco policy on self service? One Tesco takes up to 33% but not sure about my local with their new machines. Definitely takes 10%

Do try again. Yesterday I spent £50 and they wouldn't accept one voucher. Today spent £8 and had a few accepted. Find they are always easier to use in the bigger Tescos.

Yep, definitely self-service. I had a £16 shop using £10 coupons the other day. The SA had to come and accept it but it had already gone through and I'd posted the voucher through. Tbh she didn't even look I don't think and what can they do when you've already posted it? Also had £2.24 and used £1.20 coupons and (a different) SA just said 'oh it's because you've gone over a certain percent but if machine accepts it we just authorise it'. I've used the £5 one out of the Sainsbury's mag and the £1 ones on self-service fine, they're great.
