    Hi DirectDebacle

Thanks for your query. For your information I review the forum early each morning at the moment so if I miss your question one day I will pick it up first thing the next day.

I think you have been provided with this before but the Fixed February 2011 tariff conditions are shown below:

    http://cww.css.scottishpower.plc.uk/css/products/pricing/historic/Historic_Fixed_Price_Energy_2011_Offer.pdf

The Fixed Price tariff that you were on was a monthly Direct Debit tariff only. The expiry date of this tariff was the end of February and any cancellation to your Direct Debit will automatically result on your tariff being changed onto our standard prices and you being charged accordingly. Please review sections 13.2 and 13.3 of our Terms and Conditions to support this.

If you wish to cancel a Direct Debit in the future due to you changing supplier etc, make sure that you do not cancel the Direct Debit before the expiry date of the tariff or before the transfer date if you are changing supplier. As soon as we receive notification from your bank that you have cancelled your Direct Debit, your tariff will be automatically changed. You receive a discount for paying by monthly Direct Debit and if you cancel early, and your account is not in credit, then we will be closing your account and sending you a final statement requesting payment for the remaining balance. Cancelling the Direct Debit early does not benefit you and I will explain why. If your account is in credit when we receive the final meter reading, then we will not apply for a further Direct Debit payment and your credit balance will be refunded to you. If we receive the final meter reading and you have an outstanding balance, this balance is taken automatically by Direct Debit to clear your account and then no further Direct Debit payments are taken. On both occasions, whether you have a final credit or debit balance, your Direct Debit payments will be stopped without you taking any action from your bank.

I hope this helps to clarify matters for you. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    Kind Regards

    Hi Colin,

The T & C 13.2, 13.3 do not support your statement. 13.3 applies to missed payments, which was not the case with my account.

In addition to the above T&C's para 8 of the Fixed Price Energy T&C's state:

'Your payment method under this offer is by monthly Direct Debit. If at any time or from time to time any payment due is not made via monthly Direct debit, you agree that we shall be entitled to transfer your account to a standard non Fixed Price Energy Offer service package'.

The above is virtually the same as the condition as at 13.3.

It is quite clear that the conditions require the account has to be paid for by monthly DD. All DD payments due under this agreement were taken by S.P. The last one on 10/2/11. No further DD payments were required after this date.

Nowhere is it a condition that a DD mandate has to exist to the end date of the product.

If that were the case then it should be made clear and that penalties will be applied if that condition is breached.

Under the circumstances S.P. have breached the T & C's of this agreement.

I look forward to your comments.

    Edit.

I couldn't access your link so I used the one provided by elektra and quoted from those T & c's.

Spoke to supervisor in S.P. Customer Care (complaints).

Account to be re-billed at the correct Fixed Price tariff plus a suitable amount of compensation credited to the account.

It is apparent that S.P. system automatically puts customers on a standard tariff when a DD is cancelled. Computers cannot think and do not know that this can cause T & C's (in my case) to be broken.

C.S. reps are programmed to believe that if a customer cancels a DD then the customer has broken the agreement.

The amount overpaid was £11.97. for six days. Worth complaining about.

    NICKYS32.

If you want to pursue this. Complaints Tel. no. 0845 2700053.

You should be able to obtain a satisfactory result.

    Well done DD.....again.

An example to all, that if you do your research and are sure of your valid case, then you can succeed against the bureaucracy of these organisations.

They just assume they are always right, when invariably they aren't.They should have shown a bit more respect.

I think you are owed an apology. :D

Hi, I don't think I'm daft but these utilities are probably the only thing I've never reviewed to see if I have a competitive deal in the market place.

I have just had a letter saying my 'Capped for Free March 2011' deal has expired (with a £25 cheque attached) and I have the option of having the new ' Capped Price Energy September 2012' offer. Even after reading this thread I'm a wee bit lost as to what would be a suitable solution. I live in a small 1 bedroom flat on with both gas & electric with SP. I pay by DD £102 per month which seems high. My rolling usage from my last bill dated Dec 2010 is

Gas 3162kwh - standing charge £0.0608p per day
Elec 707 kwh - standing charge £0.1473p per day

    I'm in area S18.

    Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Has anyone coming off SP's OES9 tariff been offered the OES9 (April 2012) tariff?

My existing OES9 contract is due to finish at the end of March, and SP wants to put me onto their new OES9 tariff (http://www.scottishpower.co.uk/pdf/SCP3003-Mar2011.pdf). It says the new OES tariff has a minimum 3% discount on SP's standard monthly Direct Debit prices until 31st March 2012.

That sounds fine, but I don't know how it compares to other tariffs. The Energyhelpline comparison web site appears not to list the new OES9 tariff when I do a comparison search, instead it suggests SP's OES13 is the cheapest tariff.

Any clarification on how competitive the new OES9 tariff is?

You probably won't find the new OES9 tariff on comparison websites as it is not generally available; it is only for existing OES9 customers.

The discounts appear to be the same as OES13, so you just need to compare unit prices to see which will be best for you :)

Obtain your estimated annual usage in kWh from your supplier (it's not as simple as multiplying December's usage by 12 as you will usually use less in summer)

Then use a comparison site using the figures supplied :)

assscat I asked today what the new unit price would be and this is what I was told

    Electricity Tier 1 16.915 Teir 2 (after 225 units)11.302
    Gas Tier 1 5.960 Tier 2 2.820

I'm moving to BG's Websaver!!! More expensive for Tier 1 but cheaper for Tier 2 and you are moved onto tier 2 after only 180 units of electricity.
