They start shifts at 10pm round here, and I got pulled at 10:45 ish, they were sat in the dark on a roundabout, can't have been very busy.

Look on the bright side. While the jobsworths were busy bugging innocent motorists, they were safe from having to tackle real criminals who (shock horror) might not meekly give themselves up
  • OP dont give this anymore thought as you will get stoped a lot more throughout your life;)
When i was a younger i had a glovebox full of hortys and still got stoped sometimes the police where good crack sometimes bad !!!!!!s that really wound me up, the secret is dont bite back and you will get away with murder:rotfl:

Last year i was in a strange town looking for a street and couldnt find it, i stoped at a police van to ask for directions the officer wound down the window and i asked him for directions, nothing wrong with that i hear you say, he looked at me strangely and said in an angry loud voice WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THING I AM A MAP GET YOURSELF A BLOODY SATNAV so i said thanks ociffer and turned to walk away muttering tw4t under my voice, he then jumps out and proceded to try and arrest me, an argument ensued and his fellow officer got out the van and had to restrain him after about ten minutes i was sent on my way with an apology from his mate,
apparently they had just had to tell a freinds family some really bad news about their child:(
well as you can imagine i felt the size of an ant and sculked of to my motor with tail between my legs,

I am not saying this is why the officer was off with you she may have had her own problems and you just hapened to be in the line of fire.

Can anyone remember them big bright round stickers that gave the police permission to stop your car at any time day or night, well after fitting one to my car i never got stoped again:rotfl:

You spoilt it a bit, when you challenged anyone to post a better bargain, shipshape did from his local 99p shop, and you went off in a huff.

Nope, he posted about some inferior stuff, it was not like for like nor good down to -60.

Clearly MSE Towers thought that it was a worthy post.. :money:

In any case I only referred to it to counter the blatantly untrue comment made by Cyclonebri in this thread.

I don't expect an apology from him.

:rotfl::rotfl:He said it was good, he's used it, so I'll believe him. Like your's, it was a good money saving tip, but it's not a p*ssing up the wall contest.

(if I ever see -60 in my car, I won't be worrying about the screenwash)

That's absolutely no excuse for a public servant to be hostile and openly abusive to a member of the public who asked for their help. I'm gobsmacked at that story.

If he cannot handle giving people bad news, which is all part and parcel of his job description - as is mine - then he desperately needs retraining, counselling or another job. I would certainly have made a written complaint about his behaviour.

My rear wiper on my Peugeot 206 has broken and is pointing down instead of being on the rear window. It is very secure and is not coming off at all..!
Last night I got pulled by the Police on my way home from a great night out at the local snow slope.
She was quite rude and condescending which really annoyed me. If the wiper is my worst crime then they need to get a life.
She checked all the tyre treads, asked me why the front wing was scratched (lorry hit it whilst parked overnight), tried to lift the bonnet (??), looked all over the front bumper of the car and then did a vehicle check on me.
She then debated whether I was okay to continue home, all of 1/4 mile from where they stopped me.
Now, I understand the wiper is broken, but when she could see it wasn't coming off why not just a friendly warning to get it fixed asap.
No, what I got was to be made to feel like a first class criminal and her closing remark was 'If I see you on the road with it again I'll be giving you a ticket, you can go now'.
I'm in my late 20's, I don't expect to be talked to like that because my wiper is broken. I have tax, an MOT and insurance. I wasn't speeding or driving dangerously. I was not drunk nor had I taken drugs. Numpty..
I had a healthy respect for Police, but after last night I'm slightly miffed with her attitude.

Traffic police, would have made a connection with ill maintained vehicles and the potential for other problems - e.g. no MOT/ insurance. Only by stopping and checking can they confirm no problem, they wouldn't be do their job, if they took someone's word for it - they have to check.
It curious that at no point did you mention, when you were intending to get it fixed!? As others, have said, it could come off and be a danger to other road users, or instead of just pointing down - start swinging about giving your tailgate lovely scratches.

Where can one find out their rights for a traffic stop? Like I say, I've never been stopped by the police, ever. It would be nice to know where I stand.

    What can I complain about?

People who work in the police service should behave appropriately at all times. Expectations about the behaviour of both police officers and members of police staff are set out in their respective Standards of Professional Behaviour. These expectations include requirements to:

Act with honesty and integrity, fairness and impartiality
Treat members of the public and their colleagues with respect
Not abuse their powers and authority
Act in a manner that does not discredit or undermine public confidence in the police service
If you feel that someone working for the police has not met these standards, you can make a complaint.

Complaints about the overall policies and procedures of a police force (often referred to as ‘direction and control’ issues ) rather than the behaviour or conduct of a police officer or member of police staff do not fall within the remit of the IPCC. These should be directed to the police force concerned.

It's not ill maintained. The wiper assembly broke, it's not something you can 'maintain'.

It was also in no danger of falling off, or scratching the car due to the wiper being rubber.

It's secure at the moment, but the bolt sheared off. I now have the parts I need and will be trying to fix it tomorrow myself.

To get the garage to do it would be £170, I simply couldn't afford it.

I agree that I gave them a reason to stop me, and am happy that they do spot checks.

Like I've said before, it was her attitude and the way she spoke to me that I took offence to.

GeeGee My OH is a police officer and he agrees that some police officers do have an 'attitude' so to speak and others are ok. My OH is so nice to people he deals with that they all try to add him on facebook. Theres been times when hes worked with certain officers and the way they speak to people have made him cringe and they do wind people up. Its unlucky that you got one of the rude ones.

I was burgled before christmas and my OH chased one burgler and injured himself whilst doing so whilst the other one nicked my car. Loads of really nice officers came to take my statement etc then one turned up who had come to pick up my partners statement and he was really rude even though i was the victim of crime. My little 53 plate fiesta was pulled over with the burgler inside and we asked the police not to recover the car because we would get charged £200 to have it released, they still went ahead and did it. I asked this rude police officer how am i expected to find £200 quid 2 weeks before christmas with 3 kids to buy for and his reply was 'its your problem, figure it out if you want the car find the money'.

It just shows that you do get some rude, condescending people in all walks of life. I wouldn't take it personally

This really annoys me. I mean fair enough charging recovery and storage for uninsured cars - charge as much as you like/as possible for all I care, but your car gets nicked so you effectively get fined £200 for the privelege of getting your own car back? You've no choice in the matter so either its a fine or a fee for the police doing their job!
