I did actually lovingly wash it on the drive this morning... but shhhh, don't tell all the 'she's got a dirty crappy car' mob..
a lady that owns a gti, washes her car, and can perform basic maintenance on it like tightening the wiper screw... My better half could learn from you (even if it was just washing the bloody thing...)0 -
The police do need a reason to stop you. The wording I think is "any" reason. And that is interpreted as any reason it could be something as obvious as passenger tied to the roof rack, to the fact that they are suspicious of youngsters in decent cars, or even because you are the 1st car to pass by for 10 mins.
I have no issues with that, but the attitude is not acceptable, they may be used to dealing with a few scum but we're not all like that.
Many years ago I used to go fishing several times a week and would be out at 2.30 am on a drive to the rivers. It wasn't unusual to get pulled 2 or once even 3 times on the same 25 miles journey. Never had an issue with them as the attitude was fine, they'd look at the tackle in the back and apologuise for stopping me/us. One guy even said he'd radio his mate 5 miles up the road as for some reason we'd automatically get stopped again.
Things seem to have changed:(.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

But I hate spiders!9/70lbs to lose0 -
It's not sticking out, just flopped down so it's pointing at the floor.
Which means that it could easily fall off at some point.
I have never owned a car where the rear wiper has broken so that it points straight down.
It is reasonable for a Police Officer to pull over a vehicle that they think is not being kept in a good condition, this is called Police work, they do it because a car with a dented and scratched wing and a wiper pointing straight down would indicate an owner that is a l=bit economical with maintenance.
We also only have your word that you where polite to the Police Officer, you also haven't thought about the wider context of what the copper has dealt with earlier in the shift, maybe a young driver in a poorly maintained car that went out of control and killed somebody perhaps.
Until we know the entire story then slagging off the Police does nothing constructive.
I have worked alongside the Police in London for almost a decade and have never seen them be rude or aggressive at any point, though they do react to rude people or arrogant youngsters/persons as they have to, they are there to uphold the law, they are in the position of authority, not the public, the copper wasn't rude, didn't swear at you, hit you, or do anything illegal.
The condition of your car is of some concern, as you don't know the wiper won't fall off, and the only way a copper can tell if a part of a car is about to fall off is by stopping the car and checking.
Lets all slag off the Police, but when you need them you will still call them.
They are just people, not robots, so I can't see any reason for moaning about a copper that you alledge didn't match your standards for customer service.
I am not having a direct pop at the OP, but see no reason to moan about a copper that wasn't seeing the sunny side of life, who cares if they had the hump, until you have worked for the emergency services you have no right to comment on things that you no little about.
This country is slowly turning into a haven for wingers and moaners.
As an example some people are now trying to put the blame for the 7/7 bombings on the MetPol and BTP, they are an easy target as they will never reply to such comments, unlike the rest of society they have to turn the other cheek, even when on the day members of the emergency services went to the scenes of the bombings to help with no thought for their own safety, well apart from the LFB who withdrew when the thought it might be a dirty bomb, the Police and Ambulance workers and HEMS Dr's just got on with it.0 -
The wiper will not come off. I know this because I've tried. Why is that any different to knowing your wheels will not come off when you have fitted it?
My car is far from poorly maintained and I'm getting tired of people accusing me of it to be honest. The wiper has broken and the car has a scratch/dent on the wing from someone hitting it whilst it was parked outside my house. That isn't poor maintenance! That's accident damage and not my fault.
Sorry, but she was off hand with me, and this is a villiage I live in, not the middle of London, so I doubt she has seen anything that horrific.9/70lbs to lose0 -

The OP's point was not about being stopped, was about the officer's attitude. If you ask the many police officers that pull me over, if they are polite to me, i am polite back. If they are rude to me, i will try to be polite to bring them round, but if they continue to take a "holier than thou" attitude, then sod them. They are no better than me, and have no right to talk to me like they think they are.
some police officers need to learn respect goes 2 ways.0 -
The officer probably had a motive other then the wiper to stop the OP. The wiper was a convenient excuse. Without seeing it we can not judge if it was dangerous or not!
However I would assume that if the officer stopped the OP, said she was concerned the wiper may be a danger and would she get it rectified, even in an authoritarian manner rather then be rude and aggressive. The OP would have dealt with the wiper and not lost respect for a police officer.0 -

I agree.
I am certain that her point was that it may fall off, and that is why it was a danger, not that it was sticking out and might have someone's eye out lol. Therefore, when she tried to pull it off herself, she would have realised that it wasn't in any immediate danger of dropping off and therefore could have been a bit more polite and friendly.
She was just very hostile, it was as thought I had just been seen doing 120mph down the motorway, that's the kind of funny attitude she had.9/70lbs to lose0 -

GG after 13 pages of trying to get your point accross to the immovables I'd call it a day :wall:.
Please stop trying to justify yourself.
You posted a perfectly honest post about a topic that many of us have experienced. The fact that a few folks want to tar you with the chav innit label is purely down to their self righteous attitudes and no fault of yours.
I'll ask you a question now;
How do you feel about the way you've been treated on this forum?I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
