I've been pulled over by the police 3-4 times... and I'm 22. (may I just point out, never had any points, or fines or whatever else).

3 times they were polite, just asking me where I am going, check insurance, check the lights etc. and they seem alright.

1 time I was going up a hill a little speedy, not massively (~35 in a 30, which turns into 40 half way up the hill), but a police car had pulled up beside me at lights, told me to whind down my window and was EXTREMELY rude to me telling me blah blah blah speeding, so I just told him I'm in a 1.1 1991 fiesta, with 4 gears and a manual choke, and the car won't get up the hill if I don't go fast enough, and he told me to get a better car! What a tool. I just ignored him and drove off.

You say it has 4 gears?
    Change down then.

You don't know how well that Fiesta was even running. I've had some real sheds in my time that would struggle to get up a steep hill in first (the worst being a 23 year old Toyota Corolla 1.3 with a 3 speed automatic which was running on 3 cylinders when I bought it)

I used to live by a hill that was steep enough that if you were on a moper you literally had to enter it at 30 mph and would be doing about 5 mph by the time you reached the top. Unfortunately there is quite sharp corner at the bottom of the hill, so you had to begin your approach from the wrong side of the road in order to cut the corner without slowing down.

I never rode a moped so never had to deal with it but one of my friends did and got pulled for it. He claims that he offered the officer the moped and asked that he demonstrate how to get up the hill without doing that, with a promise that he would follow the officer's example from then on. The officer was a big fat guy and didn't even make it half way up, but it was hilarious watching him try.

Well if it was running on one cylinder, I could still have driven it up the hill legally.

I bet I could drive that Fiesta up a hill at less then 30 mph, it would seem to me that there was a " tool " at the scene, but it wasn't the copper.

Were you there? No. So you cannot comment about the attitude of anyone :)

I was in second..... You're saying I should go 30pmh in 1st gear? That'll be the gearbox gone!

(and FYI the road isn't a bad road, the only reason its 30mph is because someone crashed at the bottom of the hill. After their brakes failed. Couldn't quite work out why they then changed it so 30mph halfway, then 40mph the other half :/)

It's a limit, you aren't obliged to do the maximum speed.
    Try 15mph in first then.
I've got a van that does 10mph if the hills bad enough.
Somehow, the defence of "I have to speed as the car isn't powerful enough to go slowly" isn't going to get you out of a speeding ticket.

I based my comments on your ridiculous comments.

If you cannot drive a car up a hill at less than 30 mph, then you need further driver training.

I have a theory that officers in other areas of the force who turn out to have an attitude problem end up getting moved into traffic to minimise the harm they can do. You wouldn't want one of these morons being condescending or abusive to a reluctant witness in a murder prosecution would you?

It is more than just a theory, it is entirely true. We had some problems with a neighbour throwing his weight around because he is police, when we mentioned it to a friend who was in the police he explained that this chap was well know and was moved to traffic because he was a plonker and then subsequently promoted to a job flying a desk due to being rubbish...........

Can I take you up on that challenge. I'd love to see you get up some of the hills around here in a 1 cylinder Fiesta without a run up. I'm sure you'd fail harder than the fat idiot copper on the moped, but without the option of pushing it the rest of the way.

For any locals, the hill I have in mind is on the lane between Ochrwyth and Lower Machen, taking a right turn when the road forks. I don't think he'd even make it to the hill!
