MOT requirement for Insurance to be valid

So, both Quentin & Inactive missed the point that Paddedjohn was making,
Paddedjohn was making a point that if anyone has a car and they buy another whilst waiting to sell their original car, they will have to take the original car off the road (no change there) but they will also HAVE TO SORN the original car - and when you SORN, you return your tax disc so now the car will be on your driveway with no tax - making test drives illegal, the test drive would also be illegal because the new law requires the vehicle to be named on the insurance certificate. This will also mean the RK loses out on any remaining tax for that month, and means the new keeper has the hassle of buying tax for the car before they can take it away, selling the car on with tax as an incentive to the buyer will no longer be possible. Unless you find a buyer for your car on the same day you buy a new car.
Seems to me the only way round it will be to sell your car first then franticly (sp?) shop around for a new motor without any transport! Or buy your new motor and store it uninsured/SORNd on the drive while you try to sell the old one. Or hope that your insurer will agree to insure both cars for a period on the understanding you are trying to sell one of them.
As a growing number of insurance policies require a vehicle to be insured to allow DOC cover to function, you need to keep a policy on the car being sold anyway otherwise prospective buyers won't be able to test drive the vehicle.0
