MOT requirement for Insurance to be valid
I see a fair few questions re. ' do you need a current MOT' to be covered by your insurer' and the general answer was no.
I see from my new First Direct renewal policy that they are explicitly adding this as a requirement now:
Plus cover went up 10% - nice!

There was also the grey area of driving other peoples cars - most policies don't mention a requirement that the other car requires its own specific cover to be in force buy its owner. This is also now added in to be explicitly required."We have added a requirement that your car must have a valid MOT, if required and that items such as tyres and tinted windows must meet the legal requirements.'
Plus cover went up 10% - nice!

So how can anyone legally drive to an MOT station, if their MOT has expired?
I would tell First Direct where to poke their insurance.0 -
I think the FOS may disagree with them if they try and enforce it.0

They can make up all the BS they want to. What matters is the FOS and any Court rulings. I imagine a fair few people accept that they won't get a payout for no MOT and this clause is designed to fool those who aren't knowledgeable. The man without a signature.0

But you do not need an MOT to drive to an MOT station, so therefore an MOT isn't legally required, and as such you wouldn't be in breach of the policy?I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -

This is true, and what is implied by the policy wording, but the basic fact is that the policy wording -for any other situation- is unenforceable anyway.
The driving other cars with insurance clause is enforceable. And it could soon become law, but it's not yet.0 -

Could they possibly go before it expires?0 -

It's about to, indirectly.
If a car has no insurance it must be sorned very shortly. No insurance - no tax- can't be used on a third party extension.0
