Thanks Tixy
I have kept a copy of those letters in files.
I am sending out the initial letter saying I am having difficulty and setting up DMP. I have asked them (nicely) by letter to take my number off records.
I wanted some stronger ones should they perist in calling me!
Thanks again.

I have always been amazed at how caring and concerned you are for other when your own life is in turmoil, well done you for being such a decent caring human being and for looking after others when you are suffering so badly yourself. You have offered me encouragement when I have been down, so just paying it forward to you.
Keep on trucking hun, you will get there, one step at a time. Hope you have a great weekend and manage some good quality sleep, sweetie. Dolly x

I have given Payplan the go ahead to start my DMP (finally) so am awaiting to hear from my case handler in the next few days.
Should I write to the creditors with the DMP information at this stage or would you just send them a letter explaining the difficulties at present with a token payment?
I'm getting so many calls everyday (I don't answer them) so would like a little advise as which way is best to play it.
Do I tell them about the DMP before it's properly set up or just ask them to keep all contact in writing now until I have further details?
Any advice would help right now!
Thanks! x
Hi there,
Well done for setting up the DMP. I see you've been given details of template letters, which is good. I've not had any phone calls (yet) and can't offer any suggestions there.
Do you have any debts with your bank? If so you'll need to look into opening a new bank account, and don't tell the bank about the DMP until the new account is open. Also, if you need to open a new, you need to make sure it isn't one within the same banking group as your current bank.
Hope things are ok for you x0 -
Well, so far I've heard about two of my debts (out of five). MBNA have frozen the interest on my credit card debt. Lloyds have accepted my reduced payments for 6 months (!) but will continue to charge interest. I'm still waiting to see what happens about the others. For now I'm sending copies of the letters I've received to CCCS to keep them updated.
In spite of the feeling of being in limbo, I do feel so much better now I'm doing something about my debts. This evening I'm going to shred my credit cards (scary being without one for the first time since I was 18!!). I'm very pleased with how I've had no problems so far sticking to my budget, and only spending money on esssentials. I haven't been in non-essential shop since the start of the year!! That's impressive for me. I did catch a glimpse of some nice shoes in the window of New Look and felt that rush of excitement, but I resisted and walked away! :T
Hope everyone is doing ok x0 -
In my experience Lloyds only ever do anything for 6 months, and will not stop interest

Hi. yeah me too. i am 60 years old in a few weeks and seem to have been in debt all my life apart from a few years.
i have just about had enough now, and am in the process of going on an dmp. is there a way out of this, i hoped my retirement would mean a bit of money in the bank, no more working to pay the bills, and enjoy my few years i have left (hopefully) with my grandkids.
I hope this dmp wont be going on too long that i kick the bucket before it has ended.0 -
that gives me inspiration.0

Hi Verbatim,
Hope all is well with you. No they wouldn't do without me paying £500 up front and say it it because I failed the credit reference check as I haven't been in the property 3 years
But it isn't as bad as I thought because the company charge the same amount on pre-payment meters as people pay on standard DD tarrif. Looks like I'm stuck with it, but at least I'm not paying any standing charges. 0 -
Good luck, I have being on a DMP for about 18 months now.
After the first 6 weeks it seems to just tick over..
Had the odd run in with Halifax but apart from that its fine (they wont drop the apr, so even though I pay them £80 about £71 off it is intrest... humf.. least Virgin (MNBA and Egg dropped the intrest to 0)
It does feel good to have money in your account, and put a little aside incase of problems, and not worry about paying for a haircut or car tax as you have budged for it.
I have 2 accounts and a savings one, pay goes in one and all bills and dmp come out of it, then so much goes into the other account to live on, and then the savings is such stuff as car tax, mot, presents etc basicly anything I need to pay out that is not monthly.
Not for everybody but it works for me.0
