    Hi Missindependant,

I'm glad you've posted, welcome! There is a lot of support on here. I know what you mean about having buddies to chat to - I'd like that and have found lots of great people on here. If you have a specific question, it's always worth posting a new thread. Otheriwse it's good just to be able to chat to people who are in a similar situation. There are so many threads on here that it can be a bit confusing.

How are you doing with everything at the moment? It's a pretty stressful time isn't it?!

It is indeed! How very kind of you, it's nice to know it's not only you (very cliched on here I know but true!).

I have sent off my DMP paperwork back to National Debtline - they will send it to CCCS or Payplan (I have a friend who works at CCCS so they have logged that I would like passing to Payplan and I included a letter with my pack also).

I have a new bank account one with Yorkshire Bank which is a current account and one with Halifax which is Easycash, I think i'm going to go with Halifax as there will be absolutely NO temptation then!

I explained everything to YB and she was very understanding but when the decision came back on her screen she just said 'well your rating can't be that bad, i'll give you a current account'! She was saying how banks just want staff to sell these days and how awful it was and yet she did exactly the same to me! I am to call her to ask for a readycash account (which is what I wanted in the first place!).

Just need to sent token payments to banks etc with a letter but i'll do that end of week most prob. How do I go about sending postal orders?

Sorry to go on, I just need to get it out sometimes!

    Thanks all x

    Thanks Pink Angel...
I arranged to be paid by cheque for this month so i can pay that in to my new account, will call payroll today with new details so they can set that up for Feb wages...

My initial reaction is to bury my head in the sand to get away from it all tho i know this wont help and its whats got me into this mess in the first place! just have to keep driving forward and try to get thru it!

I'm back to work tomorrow after a few days off so i'm calling all the companies i have direct debits with to give them new account details and i was thinking of asking around the bars/restaurents in my town to see if they need P/T bar staff!

Worried i've left it a bit late in sending my template letters off...? doing that today and my DMP starts next week...

Good news about the Council Tax! gives you a bit of breathing space :)

    Hi B17c,

You are certainly on the right road in trying to do something about your debts. It's too easy to bury our heads in the sand and convince ourselves that things will miraculously get better, but that doesn't happen. At least we are trying to address the situation, and that's a really postive thing.

Don't worry about being late with template letters. The company where you have your DMP will be writing to them anyway, and at least they will be receive one from you. On the bright side there's less time for the creditors to bother you before they do hear.

The idea of the second job is a good one, I'm thinking of looking for something extra, as I really want to be able to pay as much as I can towards to my debts. I'm also doing lots of selling on ebay, so hopefully that will help. When the weather improves I'm going to do a car boot sale too.

    Take care x

Oh dear today seem to have lost my way, i've managed to stay fairly upbeat about all this so far after all its my fault etc etc, but today i had a letter from CCCS saying santander wont accept my reduced payment for one cc because of "contractual payment required". i checked thinking it was one who'd had a reduced payment this month (due to mergers alot of my debt is with them one way or another) but this was an interest free card and they'd had more than the minimum this month already. Now I'm so scared that none of my debt will be accepted and that this one will just get bigger cos they'll probably start applying interest. I spoke to a lovely lady at CCCS who said to inform them if this happens and also explained that they may just have accepted their quota for that day and that will still send what has been alotted from my payment! I know its my fault but it doesnt seem right that acceptance by the cc companies is such a lottery.

Now I'm really scared, what if they send baliffs around can they take my car if they do i cant work, if i sell it and get something cheaper it will cost more to run (mines v economical £30 tax and 600+ to a tank of diesel) should i put it in someone elses name or is this worse. I think i;ll be able to increase what i pay CCCS from next month now i've looked at where i can cut back but i dont think it'll make much difference to my creditors. i will also hopefully be able to make a small additional payment as when i get paid i should get a bit extra for working over the christmas bank hoildays. I know i'm rambling on a bit here but i dont have anyone else to tell and i cant burden the kids with this. To think yesterday i was feeling so positive cos i made a draft excluder out of an old pillow and turned the heating down half a degree!.............what a joke i am:(

Hang on in there Maganan. You are not a joke - you are bravely trying to tackle your debts in a constructive way, and you should be proud of that. These companies are far too quick to give credit, all they care about is the huge profit they will make. At the end of the day if you don't have the money to pay, then you can't magic it out of thin air, and priorities like food, bills etc are much more important. I know it's hard, try not to panic about ballifs etc because the company would have to go through a process to get to that point. It sounds as if your car is ecomonical to run and you need it for work, please don't make any rash decisions at this point about it, as you may regret it. It really is very much one day at time, and I think there will be good days and bad ones. When you're having a bad one you just have to make sure that you look after yourself, be kind to yourself, and remember there's a lot of support from people on here who undestand what you are going through. Don't bottle it up, keep talking. You're doing ok (and I'm very impressed you can make a draught excluder - I wouldn't know where to start!).:)

    Hi Miss Independant,

It's good to get things out and this is a supportive place to do it :) With postal orders you just need to go to a post office and tell the cashier how much you want a postal order for. They print it out and you pay. I know that you used to have to pay a small amount for it, but I haven't bought one for years so don't know whether that has changed.

Sounds as if things are moving for you. I had a similar experience at my new bank, the lady was obsessed with trying to sell me things, even though I said I wanted a basic account, no overdraft etc. It's far too easy to get credit!

Hope that all your paperwork has been passed to Payplan as requested, as I can see it would be awkward having a friend a CCCS.

    Take care x
  • Thank you for your kind words Pink-Angel, I posted all my stuff off yesterday so it's finally done!

Just out of curiosity, what stage are you at with your DMP and what have been your experiences so far?

Just wanted to say to all of you, think you are doing an amazing job, its really inspiring. Although I do not have a DMP, I know the fear and self loathing that comes with debt and the desperation to keep it private from all friends and family (and work).

Their are days where I have felt so desperate about my situation I have seriously considered ending it all. But i found MSE and DFW (I appreciate this sounds overly dramatic) but it is true. DFW is the only place I have felt safe enough to discuss with anyone, and through this it has enabled me to take some wobbly steps (admittedly) to start tackling my debts. I used to be paralysed by fear with anything to do with the bank or any of my creditors.

Keep going all of you, post like yours are an inspiration to others even at the most difficult times. Wishing you all a great day, with some small successes whatever they may be.

    Best wishes Dolly x

    Hi Miss Independent,

I'm at a similar stage with my DMP as you. My paperwork has been all been sent off, I now waiting to hear back for confirmed start date, and I just hope that my creditors accept the payment offers that CCCS make. I sent the template letters off. Haven't heard anything back yet from my creditors in response. I've found CCCS very helpful, but other than that it's all very new to me. My salary has gone into my new bank ok, so that's good.

I'm so glad that MSE has been here for you when things have been really bad, and glad you know there is such great support on here. You are also doing really well and tackling your debts, which isn't easy. And you know where to come if you're having a bad day.

Take care, hope you are ok x
