May 2012 Brides (and Grooms) + Diary of a 2012 Bride

Hello everyone, newbie here but I'm very happy to have found other brides-to-be to talk to! We have just booked our wedding for 26 May 2012! We have been engaged for about 2.5 years but at New Year we decided we'd get on and set a date. I'm very much all or nothing so we viewed a total of 12 possible wedding venues in one weekend, shortlisted three and have now booked our chosen venue. I have some very detailed spreadsheets on the go at the moment but apart from having asked bridesmaids/best man, booking the church, and the hotel for the reception, we are not even close to being as organised as most of you!!! We think we have found a photographer but not booked yet.
I am desperately trying to make my mind up about themes., while also trying to stop myself from going to war with my mother-in-law to be and juggling my side of the family's politics (everyone hates each other!). I'm trying to keep costs down where I can and do things myself but people seem to be trying to put me off, telling me I will be so busy I won't be able to make the cake/decorate the reception venue/make wedding favours. I think that with some careful planning, I will be able to do everything I need to (and save money!), but I think I'm just losing confidence a bit...:undecided0 -
I've been waiting to post since Friday but been too busy to get on here!!
I went dress shopping on Friday with my MOH. We went to two shops: I tried on about 8 dresses in the first one and although liked two of them, I didn't really LOVE anything. I went with the intention of trying on slimline dresses but I actually didn't like any of them on me so tried a few "bigger" dresses on. I then went to the second shop and literally every dress I tried on was amazing, and the lady did a really good job of picking dresses which suited me really well. Anyway, I tried on the first dress that I'd picked in the second shop and completely unexpectedly burst into tears upon seeing it in the mirror. It's AMAZING. I felt a bit of an idiot though!!

It's £1190, which is WAY,WAY, WAY over my budget and I feel ridiculous wanting something so expensive. I am going to look at a few other places just to make sure that there's nothing else that takes my fancy.
Hey I have slipped into the wrong thread. Just wanted an update on your dress search... Have you gone for it??????????0 -

Hey sorry for not replying, not been on here really for ages as I've started a new job and have been too tired to come on here in the evenings!
Anyway haven't gone for it yet, I want my mum to have a look at it and I am desperate to find it cheaper but so far am drawing a blank. Anyone got any ideas?
Hadley1 the best shop was the one in New Eltham called With Love Bridals (http://www.withlovebridals.com/). They had WONDERFUL dresses in there!0 -

Hi All. I think i'm about to be a May 2012 bride too. Got engaged just after valentines day. My brother is getting married in August 2012 and as he got engaged before me i did not want to take anything from his big day so we were gong to do it May 2013. But he said he does not mind and that we should go for it. The weekend should hopefully be May 27th (Bank holiday Sunday). Dont mind doing it on that Sunday as it is a bank holiday anyway so people are off work anyway in the main. Venue provisionally booked is the Chimney house hotel Near Sandbach Junction just off Junction 17 of the M6. A friend got married there about 4 years ago and it was a really good day. By pure luck, they have a wedding fayre on Sunday 27th March so will be going along and speaking to them for prices and so on. If anyone has been there more recently any feedback would be great
.
Bridesmaids are chosen. Just need to think about colours and so on but hopefully things should become clearer when spoke to the wedding co-ordinator. Its soooo daunting, i get panicked everytime i think about all the organising as i am not the most organised of people.....I have a feeling this website and forums will be a godsend X

Hi ljane74 - congratulations! I just wanted to point out that Sunday 27 May 2012 isn't going to be a bank holiday weekend next year as they have moved the usual late May bank holiday to Monday 4 June. It's the Queen's Diamond Jubilee on Tuesday 5 June so they've moved the bank holiday so everyone gets a four day weekend! Just something to bear in mind if you wanted your wedding specifically on a bank holiday weekend. x0 -
How is everyone's planning going?
- I've spoken to a florist and I need to chase them up because they said they would get back to me with a quote 2 weeks ago.
- Getting quotes from live bands
- Going dress shopping on saturday
- Made my guest list
- Found my bridesmaid dresses, I just need to buy them
Only 395 days to go :j
Or in other terms: 9502 hours / 570138 minutes / 34208297 seconds0 -
IT'S 365 DAYS TIL W-DAY!!!
:j and
REALLY MUST speak to my minister to confirm timings but I can't get hold of the bloke - he's never in!!
In case anyone is interested, here's some of the plans:
W-day is May the 4th 2012, it's a Friday so half price for reception venue :-)
We're having a mild Star Wars theme. Hoping for an arch made of Lightsabres as we exit the church, for example!
Otherwise, it's a blue colour theme coz it's a bit space-y.
After a bit of negotiating, we'll be having just a sit down meal for the day guest and no buffet in the evening because the wedding breakfast isn't til 5.30/6pm ish.
I bought the sample of my dress for £300 (not inc fitting), saving £250 on new, from Brenda Lorraine, in Elm Park, Essex - I can't recommend them enough.
That's about it for now. Still loads to do but we've got the main bits covered.Gaffa tape is like the Force; It has a Dark side, a Light sideand it holds the universe together0
