we have set a budget of 3000 but i hope to do it for 2000, as
i would rather spend money on doing up our house that we bought
at christmas,
we are planning on marrying at the local church and then having a reception at my
parents farm, with a sit down buffet done by ourselves . my parents rear beef and turkey so
we will get these at cost price and same with ham from my dads friend, we then just plan on
different breads a few salads cheese and chutney board etc
desserts we are going to make up a fresh fruit salad and also as my partener works in catering
hes able to get some premade gateaus at cost. i have decided on a wedding cake from either asda or
tesco , both sell 3 different sizes so you can make a 3 tier cake, i will then just add ribbon around
each one to match our colour scheme. invites i plan on making my self, we hope to have a disco and pie and peas supper for the evening
i have seen lovely bridesmaid dresses for 40 pound on both ebay and sexyher .com and there is lots of nice wedding dresses for around 100 pounds on there. the marquees we are having the reception in will be borrowed from my dads friend and we are also able to hire tables and chairs at a very good rate. transport again will be about knowing the right people ( my dad has a friend with a horse and cart as well as one with a bently) i plan to decorate the marquee with hearts hanging from the roof supports as well as fairy lights in the roof area.
Welcome to the forums Zoe and congratulations on your engagement. It seems like you've got a lot of the stuff planned already!!!0 -
I've been waiting to post since Friday but been too busy to get on here!!
I went dress shopping on Friday with my MOH. We went to two shops: I tried on about 8 dresses in the first one and although liked two of them, I didn't really LOVE anything. I went with the intention of trying on slimline dresses but I actually didn't like any of them on me so tried a few "bigger" dresses on. I then went to the second shop and literally every dress I tried on was amazing, and the lady did a really good job of picking dresses which suited me really well. Anyway, I tried on the first dress that I'd picked in the second shop and completely unexpectedly burst into tears upon seeing it in the mirror. It's AMAZING. I felt a bit of an idiot though!!

It's £1190, which is WAY,WAY, WAY over my budget and I feel ridiculous wanting something so expensive. I am going to look at a few other places just to make sure that there's nothing else that takes my fancy.0 -

I'm a groom for 5/5/2012. From Nottingham.
We' picked a venue and church a few months ago, they have deposits down.
Wish we'd set a budget before we started looking at things though. but it seemed difficult to do that without having an idea of how much places cost. By then you've already seen places you really like... egad!
So now I'm trying to find out how much all the other things are to see how we can get the buget to a more 'comfortable' amount.
At the same time as working out what we can do ourselves, I'm trying to stop my W2B filling up her wedding morning with jobs other than getting ready!
No idea about theme, or is that the colour that my waistcoat will be? In which case, Crimson.
Then there's the Honeymoon. We have no idea what we want really. But one thing I think I've decided is that Honeymoon is not the same thing as a holiday of a lifetime. For example, I'd love to go to NZ etc, but that kinda goes away from what I was saying really about it not being a honeymoon so much. I hear that the Carribean would be bang-on weather-wise in May.
I want somewhere that we can relax for a good few days, but then I want to be in a place where I can do some amazing stuff too after I've got bored of laying in the sun.
These are the places we are considering at the moment, no doubt it'll change by the day:- Cuba
- Cape Verde
- Maldives
- Mauritius
- U.A.E.
As you can tell, lots on my mind!
Already getting sick of being milked by anyone hearing the word 'wedding'.0 -
Hi all
I just discovered this forum today!
We got engaged at the beginning of Feb and have booked our reception venue for the 16th June 2012!!!! Sooooo excited.
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how you come up with a theme for the day (and stationary etc beforehand). We are looking at a pale green and navy blue colour theme but want to base the day around things we are interested in - just wondered if anyone had any ideas how to come up with something?
Also Katini just read your post and my sister in law to be found her wedding dress in a shop for loads of money, then searched it online and bought it directly from America in the end. It saved her loads of money and fitted really well - quality was exactly the same so possible worth a try?
Anyway - nice to meet you all!0 -
Well we are now in the process of moving!!!!! It was a last minute thing so we have 2 weeks so been crazy buying new things and packing! was horrid packing the wedding wardrobe up bad point is our new house has no built in wardrobes or anthing like it so i have no idea where ium going to house the wedding stuff i really dont want to leave it boxed in the loft
