Don't get me wrong Clairu, it was a challenge! Both OH and I had to do some serious chasing to get everyone's RSVPs in. And there were the usual 'Oh I thought I didn't need to reply' etc.
I have a flower girl but she is only 4 so I think her only job on the day will be to try and ensure she keeps her ivory dress clean - at least until after the photos! Handing out confetti at the end of the ceremony sounds like an ideal job. I'm sorry but I can't think of many other tasks!0 -
I'm not bothering to chase up those RSVP's of people I know are coming! I've got 3 aunties who are booked into the venue, and one of OHs brothers has his family booked in as well, so that's four lots (9 people in total) that I won't be chasing. I think for day guests, we are only actually waiting on one of OHs cousins and one set of aunty and uncle on my side. (rsvp date was last weekend). I still have a few evening guests to chase up, but as our venue doesn't actually require numbers until 3 weeks before, I'll leave them just now.0

Hey all
Hope you've had a fun/productive weekend!
After yet another crazy week at work I somehow mustered up the energy on Saturday morning to jump on an 8am train with H2B to visit our church and priest (120 miles away, as is everything for our wedding!) to do our final prep (filing out forms mainly).
I then jumped on another train to the dressmaker (about 50 miles from home) for my first fitting. I was a bit disappointed at first, as it wasn't sitting quite right on me. Plenty of tweaking, a different petticoat and a couple of dozens pins later and it was looking pretty much how I'd hoped. Yay!
Other things we've sorted in the past couple of weeks:
• Sent out the invites and have been getting RSVP fever! (36 'yes'; 3 'no'; 76 day guests and 34 evening guests tbc)
• Bought bridesmaids gifts and gift boxes
• Flower girl dresses arrived – they are stunning, love them!
• Bought men's suits
• Bought contents for the kids' activity bags
• Bought almost all the centrepiece items (just waiting on Matalan to restock the pillar candles I want)
• Bought Wahanda voucher for half price 'Geleration' manicures
• Bought materials to construct our favours and wedding pompoms (going on the end of the pews in place of flowers). Just need to buy the sweets to go in the favours.
• Chose readings, hymns, procession/recessional music
• Designed order of service
Things on the list for the next week or two:
• Confirm hair trial date
• Sort out giving notice (still haven't done it!)
• Got a Brazilian blow dry appointment booked at a posh salon on Wednesday to eliminate the frizz! (Groupon voucher)
• Meet with our photographer
• Practice first dance (gulp!)
• Design kids' activity book
• Design menu
• Decide on parents' gifts
• Decide on table plan design (don't know whether to go traditional or quirky)
• Buy final bits and bobs: flower girls' shoes, men's ties, favour sweeties (still not decided what to have); bridesmaids' stole/shawl (bought pashminas and the colour's just not right).
Phew! Sorry for the long update. I think it's more to help me than anything else!
Cleverclogs, your dress is absolutely stunning by the way. You look gorgeous. No wonder you were bouncing around!
bride2be, hope your final week and leaving do went well. You must be so glad you have the new job sorted now. Do you start straightaway?
stationaryace, your hen night sounds so much fun! Mine's in a month's time (first weekend in May) and I can't wait! Hope your dress fitting went well.
Seven weeks, six days to go until 26th May…..!!!
me too may 26th:j i think we are at similar stages of our planning lol i have to do now:
order of services
menu
table plan
put favours together
have a venue dressing "rehearsal''
and anything else which i will probably add into the wedding lol0 -
I'm 26th May too!
Got a hair and make up trial this evening, that normally I look forward to but 1) I have a horrid cold coming on and all I want to do is curl up and sleep and 2) it's at my mum's house and normally we have wine and nibbles (hair dresser is my sister's friend, make up artist is her mum, so we all have a good laugh), but it's my turn to drive...grrr...
On a more positive note, more RSVP's are in, so less chasing to do! And most of my cousins who I haven't seen in years but felt obligated to invite aren't coming. I'm trying not to sound to pleased about that, but sod it, it's less money to spend on people I don't really keep in touch with and I can spend that money on other wedding-y things for the people that are going!!
Hoping the cold shifts as travelling 3 hours tomorrow to go to a friends wedding on Saturday!0 -
26th May is clearly an awesome day for a wedding :j0
-
it sure is!
Well, all day RSVP's are in! Well, apart from the 4 I know are coming coz they have rooms booked but I'm not bothering to chase those.
And the evening list is very close to be finishing as well! But was doing a bit of housework earlier, and found an invite for one of OHs friends, that OH had promised to drop off - and obviously hasn't as it's still on the table!! No wonder they haven't rsvp'd, their invite is still here!!
Just back from hair and make up trial, and feeling lots better - laughter may be the best medicine after all lol!
Away to bed now, hopefully a good nights sleep with help rid me of the rest of the cold germs. And if that doesn't work, there's always wine tomorrow evening!!0 -
Hey all
Hope you're having a lovely, restful Easter weekend.
Mine's been quite chilled to start with, and then I realised earlier that we have just six weekends left to sort stuff before we get married, and two of those are write-offs because of the stag/hen dos.
Glad to see you're all doing well with your RSVPs. We haven't had a great deal more since I last posted. I think some hardcore chasing will be necessary once the deadline has passed! (15th) Surprisingly, a lot of the evening guests have replied, but only about one-third of our day guests have. Do they think we're psychic?
To add to my 'to do' list, I've decided to go a bit vintage with our guest book and card 'postbox', as I realised we didn't have anything carrying through our Mad Men/1960s theme in the venue itself. So decided to have a vintage typewriter as a kind of guest book and a vintage suitcase for people to leave their cards. I know it's not entirely original (I found this pic after I'd decided what to do!) but at least we'll have made a bit of an effort. So am now scouring eBay for 1960s items!
We made a start on our seating plan yesterday, based on the 80/90 people we're pretty sure will come. It wasn't as hard as I thought, but I think there will be some people who don't like where they're sitting.
Do you guys have a strategy for your tables in terms of mixing up the groups? The way things have gone, we've ended up with only one table that's mixed at the moment - most are either sitting with a bunch of family they know or friends they know. I can't decide if that's boring or what people actually prefer!
I have a plan for our table plan itself, which should be reasonably MSE: I've found a large (almost A2) silver frame in Wilkinsons for £7 and I'm planning to get a bespoke mount made with windows cut out for each of the tables (approx £6 from this framing shop) in navy blue. Then I can just print each table details on a separate piece of white card, add some embellishments, stick them to the mount and done! That's the theory anyway… Should hopefully look something like this:
Glad your hair and make-up trial went well, bride2be. My hair trial is booked for this Friday. I'm not exactly sure what I want yet. Something Joan Holloway-y would be good - being a curvy redhead myself, why not?!0 -
how are we all doing?? 6 weeks tomorrow for us - AGH!!
Have been very good this week, not eating junk food and snacking on healthy things - until a major blip yesterday and ate the 2 mini mars bars that came with my easter egg - woops! And somehow a bottle of wine managed to sneak into my shopping earlier too. Final (I hope!) dress fitting tomorrow!! What's everyone doing underwear wise? I think I'll just wear something I already have as I know it'll be comfy and fit properly, and get something new/special to change into at, em, bed time lol!
Just back for the registry office, picking up forms to give notice so will get those filled out this weekend and get them back on Monday. And pay the £290 bill - not amused, I had on my budget spreadsheet it was only £190, so now I'm £100 down somewhere else. Grr.
Also my cake boxes and favour boxes have arrived, so they need assembling. Not my idea of fun times, but right now it's more appealing than housework lol! Also have to keep the love hearts away from OH, he ate the last lot so had to buy more today!
OH was very sweet this morning, bless him! Normally he's not one to talk about feelings etc (what man does!) and doesn't really know what to say when I go all love-y on him, but he was saying this morning that he wants to marry me coz he loves me so muchthen of his own back, without any prompting from me, decided he'd go and sort out his kilt tomorrow. Think I'll go with him though to make sure he doesn't pick one of these new 'fashion' kilts lol!
Hope everyone has a fab weekend!0 -
3 weeks on Monday for me.
Only £290? You're lucky. Mine cost £540!
I had my final dress fitting yesterday, it looks so good and makes me look quite thin:j
I bought some bridal underwear from Debenhams when they had their 25% sale on.
Finished all my favours last weekend, so glad about that because it was a huge weight on my mind as I knew they would take ages.
I remember someone on here saying it was only 3 weeks until their wedding and they are having it today so  as mine is 3 weeks away.0 -
I know £290 isn't a lot compared to some, but is still more than I had budgeted for lol!
Well, have had a very productive couple of days!! So far we have:- Assembled cake and favour boxes
- Had dress fitting
- Have sorted OHs kilt hire
- Picked up wedding rings
- Fill in paperwork for registry office
- Order cake topper
And this coming week I'm hoping to:- Order the rest of our thank you gifts
- Finally choose our first dance song and email DJ
- Sort out rest of music for the ceremony
- Make our order of service, maybe on vista print or DIY
Dress fitting went well, thankfully as I thought I'd put on loads of weight. Back in 2 weeks for final fitting. Didn't expect to get our wedding bands, they weren't due until the 20th but we popped in to get OH a new watch battery yesterday and he asked on the off chance and they had arrived!!0
