We registered our intent to marry today at our local registry office. Makes it all the more real now - eeeekkkk.
I got my wedding shoes this week to, I LOVE them!
(not sure how to upload a pic)

well, we have 10 weeks on Saturday until the big day!
And it's suddenly just occured to me how much we still have to do!
So far on my list:
Find OHs birth certificate. Should be straightfoward, it's at his mums. But she refuses to send anything like that through the post, so we'll have to make the 4 hours round trip to get it.
Once we have his birth certificate, sort out legal stuff at the registry office.
Find a frame and mount for our VW print that's being used instead of a guest book.
Get our wedding rings.
Decide on music for the ceremony.
Make and print our Order of The Day
Final dress fittings
Make up trial
Gifts for Mums, Dads, bridesmaids, best man and flower girls
OH kilt hire (should be pretty straightforward, he knows what he wants).
Find cake toppers
AGH, how can there only be ten weeks to go!!0 -
Is it really only 10 weeks?!! That's quite scary!
I feel quite in control at the moment. I got lots of things crossed off the list yesterday, and I even spent a couple of hours actually sorting out the boxes of wedding stuff that has been slowing growing out of control and taking over both spare rooms! I did manage to drop the signing frame and smash the glass though. Doh!
And on a more upsetting note, OH's grandad passed away this morning, which has put things into perspective. The last thing he said to OH was that he was sorry he wouldn't make our wedding, but he'd be there in spirit.
With all the recent flurry of wedding activity and stressing over the details, I have admittedly been so focused on ensuring everything is perfect, that I really haven't focused enough on just how important it is to have a day surrounded by the people we love, and who love us. So today I've taken some time out from planning & told everyone I love exactly how much I love them.0 -
I'm so sorry to hear that Cleverclogs, sending you ((hugs)) x0

Hugs to you and your OH Cleverclogs, definitely puts any silly wedding stresses in perspective.
I finally had the phone call from the dress shop at the weekend, so I am trying on my dress on Saturday, very excited.
Imminent things to do:
Pick music
Draft Order of Service
Pay and collect rings
Finish making veil (using very, very MSE fabric...hope it will look classy rather than tacky...may actually have to spend money if it does!)
Make buttonholes (making these in blue and ivory)
Find or make something for my flower girl to hold, may make a flower the same as the buttonholes and make it a bracelet?
Find nice underwear:eek:, rather than the 'structural' day time stuff...
Sure I am missing lots of bits, but it all feels in hand at the moment!
Also, a really silly question, but does anyone know what a garter is actually for? I was given on for my birthday but I'm not 100% sure if there is any more to it than putting it on my leg and it looking daft...pretty, looking pretty!

Sorry to hear about your OH's grandad Cleverclogs.
We have had nearly all of the RSVPs now, just a few left to sort out. We received our 50% invoice today eek. Scary stuff!!
Had a bit of an epiphany tonight and managed to order my shoes and get an idea of how I want my hair. Need to get jewellery sorted next but haven't found anything I like yet except for
and
But they are £450 from Ernest Jones so ideally I want copies/similar ones for about £30!!!0 -
I ordered a copy of my birth certificate as although I KNOW it's in my house somewhere I just couldn't find it - £15 for a replacement seemed well worth the hours I would have to spend hunting and stressing. Plus I ordered it on Friday afternoon and it was on my mat when I cam home yesterday :T Now we have all our documents ready we can go see the registrar and get the official bits finished.
Got the RSVP from the rogue cousin and it's a no,so OH is double happy! (it was an obligation invite and as OH only has 15 family members it would be too obvious and rude not to have invited them)
MsShopper - I love your flowers! Still haven't picked out what flowers we are having, although we have sourced a florist.
Cleverclogs - sorry to hear about that. My gran passed away in October and that is the main thing that keeps our wedding grounded. It really doesn't matter what happens so long as you share the day with (most) of the people you love. We've been told OH's grandad might not manage to come to the wedding (not that anyone has told him that yet) so that is us down to 3 grandparents.
Having said that, we just found out today that our catering manager no longer works for our caterers  we have external caterers as our reception venue is just a fancy hall, and the only reason we found this out was that I am chasing the caterers to get the full final contract so we can pay them the deposit! meeting the replacement tomorrow - I have a feeling this is a chef who is temporary cover for the job and just handling our wedding, but all he needs to be able to do is bring and cook the right food so I'm sure it'll be fine. I would love to know what has happened with the previous guy though, I smells a scandal....when the first cup of coffee tastes like washing up she knows she's losing it0 -
notepadjunkie wrote: »Hello burtonsangel,
well the first thing we did was book a registry office - £100 for a Friday, and it's absolutely GORGEOUS! it only fits a few people in but we're saying people can wait in the gardens if they want or meet us at the reception venue which is just a simple, but still rather pretty and extremely practical village hall. It's got a fully equipped kitchen, banqueting chairs and tables... everything you'd need really. and we get that from lunchtime the day before. so our venues, equipment and ceremony are sorted for under £500 in total!
we're doing a booze cruise to Calais - some place called the calais wine store or something pays for your eurotunnel or ferry over if you make a minimum order - from as little as £250.
the food will be a cold buffet that we're all going to make the day before and prepare as much as possible before hand. nice cold stuff tho - thai salads, dressed salmon, that sort of thing. just a mix, but all stuff that can keep for a day or two or be prepared very easily...
the dress from china was £95, but that should arrive this week. it could be a horrible mistake but i thought it was worth the risk just to see what it looked like. if that doesn't work out i'm just going to buy off the rack but make my own adjustments - y'know adding flowers or your own beads, that sort of thing, so it's a bit personal. my mum also said she'd make me a dress so hopefully we'll have it covered. I'm more concerned about hair and make up really because i do want that to be great. i don't think the dress can go too wrong as i'm not going for anything wacky or out there - just nice and simple...
hmm what else, oh the theme is woodland/foresty - so lots of green which is easy to get. we're thinking of just going for a wander around the woods and gathering branches and hanging fairy lights off them and wrapping ivy around beams... that sort of thing!
i'm really glad i booked the registry office straight away though, just because with all the extra browsing of venues and looking online i know i'd have talked myself into spending more. so with a clear rational head i booked that, so everything just has to work around it.
what about you? how are your plans going? xx0 -
Cleverclogs wrote: »Hi all, sorry I've been caught up with other things so haven't checked this thread in a while. Hello to all the newbies! We are date twins burtons angel! We've booked all the big things now so I'm feeling quite organised. Our invites have arrived but I need to figure out how to print the information off and then I'll have to assemble them. And very exciting - my veil arrived this morning! I took a chance & ordered it online from wedding veils direct and I'm really happy with it. It was much cheaper (and nicer) than the one I tried on in the bridal shop!
We've got a lot of crafty projects on the go - we're collecting jam jars and spraying them with glass frosting spray to use them as lanterns. I've sewed all our bunting flags but need to sew them on to the ribbon. I've spent hours making our pew ends only to then find out that due to the way the pews are in our church, I can't use them - argh! I have bought a couple of wooden toy dolls which we are going to paint to personalise and put on top of our cake, and we've made lots of bits for our DIY photobooth. We are putting together personalised CDs for guests to listen to on the journey between the church and reception (it's a good 20min drive if the traffic is good but much longer if it isn't!). I'm still on the hunt for cheap glassware for our sweetie table and I've earmarked my dad's cash & carry card for the sweetie shop in the new year. A lot of projects to keep us busy over the winter months!!!
awwww we are date twinsi have been very busy planning away lol and took a xmas break so not to become obessive and not enjoy xmas lol so have not been on here for too long! i have cake, photographer, videographer, favours, guest book, cars, suits, bridesmaids, my accessories all sorted now:j i have lots of deco stuff but have more to order, just waiting for payday. u must be pretty sorted now cos u were well organised already:A

MoneyMiser, so sorry to hear that about your B2B's dad. I lost my mum 10 years ago, so I can appreciate how hard it must be for her right now. Sounds like you are being a great support to her through this.
Cleverclogs, sorry to hear about your OH's granddad. You're right about keeping things in perspective – I have to remind myself from time to time what's really important in this whole wedding planning journey.
clairus, I have no idea what a garter is for. I think it's a tradition in the US to have the groom take it off and throw it to the men at the wedding or something like that. No thanks!
dee342, nice work on the shoes. Can you post a link? (I love shoes!)
bride2be, your to do list sounds pretty close to what we still have left to do. Actually, I think we have more. Ten weeks really doesn't seem enough!
katini, that jewellery is stunning! The necklace reminded me a little bit of mine, which was from Glitzy Secrets.
stationeryace, good news about that rogue cousin's RSVP. I have a few peeps that I'm hoping can't make it – to help our budget out if nothing else! Hope your meeting with the new catering manager went well.
Update from me: The invites finally arrived on Tuesday. However, while the printer fixed the print quality issue, they messed up the trimming, meaning that our square designs are all noticeably off-centre. After more than three weeks of delays, I have had enough of the whole thing, so they're just going out as they are. PDA may be good for the prices of their card, but I cannot recommend their printing services at all.
On a brighter note, I went on an online wedding buying spree last weekend, so have had nearly a dozen deliveries to my work this week, everything from bags for the kids' activity packs to underwear. I think the receptionist is getting sick of me! The kids bags are my absolute favourite. They're small cotton tote bags, each with the child's name in one of the fonts from our stationery. I'll post a pic when I get a chance.0
