It's getting so close now as its not next month but the one after .0

2 months today, 2 months today.......
tried on my mock up dress at the weekend and I look like a mermaid! now it was in the wrong material, the wrong colour and this was to adjust the fit to make sure the pattern was on track. oh and I didn't have on my correct underwear and hoop so apparently it will look completely different at the next fitting....however I am starting to have doubts. don't get me wrong, I trust the dressmaker and know she'll do a great job but when you start to look like a bridesmaid from Big Fat Gypsy Wedding it kinda knocks your confidence a little. Anyhoo hoop has been ordered so roll on the next fitting.
only chasing up a few stragglers for rsvps - none of the bridal party has rsvp-d  but their outfits have been sorted and they better show. the biggie is OH's cousin (with the hubby and 3 kids). he doesn't speak to her outside of family events but his family is v small compared to mine so they all got invited. I am now relying on the in-laws to speak to OH's uncle to chase up the reply from this cousin.... if we don't hear back by friday OH has threatened to uninvite them [we know they have another wedding on the same day and are waiting to get the invite for the other wedding so they can pick which one to go to, but our rsvp date was 29th Feb and they've known about this clash for 6 months! pick already!].
we went back to our venue last week to go over timings and other little details. it was really good to see it in the evening as it was the middle of a gorgeous day the last time we went and I was concerned it might look dingy. venue seems to want us to ply guests with drinks (bar is provided by outside caterers so they won't make any money from it but it "looks good") but arrival drink at 3.30 followed by toast at 4.30 then wine during the meal will be enough for most. the big drinkers can toddle off to the bar for refills in between.
my sister is organising my hen do for 24th March but won't tell me anything about it, which is starting to get irritating...... we're having a much smaller flit nearer the wedding (6 of us, mostly family) which is super secret and i'm fine about that, but I want to know what it happening for THIS one so I can decide if I want to invite the girls from work etc... I want my control back.
bride to be - how was the cake tasting? my hen rant seems silly compared to yours.when the first cup of coffee tastes like washing up she knows she's losing it0 -
cake tasting was fab! Decided on just plain sponge (don't do marzipan, so that kinds rules out fruit cake!). And it's going to be very unique and special to us, which is exactly what we wanted. And as it's my mum's friends making it, we're getting it half price! :money:
Hen night drama isn't so bad now, big case of crossed wires between my mum and sister lol! Sister had mentioned to my mum she had been talking about the hen night to her friends, my mum thought she'd invited them! anyhow, I had a hair trial on Friday night (one of said friends is doing our wedding hair), and the hen night didn't get mentioned once. Had a talk about it with my other bridesmaid, and it wouldn't be the end of the world if they came, I just got annoyed about it at the time coz I felt it was being forced upon me. (something my sister is very good at!). So I currently have 9 definites and 4 maybe's for the hen night, 3 who can't make it and another 4 who just haven't bothered replying!!
Not had any RSVP's for the wedding invites either yet. I did get a few texts and emails from friends, and a couple of aunties phoned my mum to say they had received the invites. Nothing from OHs side though, until he asked if they'd received them last night. :rotfl: (yet I know most of his side are going as they've booked into the venue, don't have a clue about my side!)0 -
Not much going on here, just desperately waiting for people to RSVP. We get invoiced for 50% of the cost on Monday so really want to be able to give them an accurate figure so that we can ensure we don't have a big payout at the end!
I have my first fitting on Saturday- just to try it on and see what it fits like plus take shoes etc to work out what size heels to buy.
Have loads to do still but finding it difficult to motivate myself because work's so busy. Will have to get some done at the weekend. Still not decided on favours.0 -
with you on the rsvps! We sent ours out last Friday, I know most people got them on the Saturday...and we've only had 2 back yet!! Out of about 30! not amused!!0

Hey all, [STRIKE]just a quick hello really![/STRIKE] :hello: (Edit: oh dear, it was supposed to be a quick hello before I hit the hay, but then I got a second wind!)
Bride2be, glad you ironed out your hen night worries. And great news on your cake! How's the job hunting coming along?
Stationaryace, I bet your dress will look great once you have the hoop and right undies on. Do you have long to wait for the next fitting?
Retepetsir, you sound incredibly organised! I wish my OH was as switched on to all this wedding malarky as you seem to be. Sorry to hear of your family stresses. I'm sure you'll have a brilliant day and it'll be long forgotten.
Clairus, well done on finishing the cranes! :T And you did a fab job on the cake toppers too. Wish I was so crafty! Glad your not-yours dress looked as lovely as you'd hoped. Has your real one come in yet?
Cleverclogs, your invites are beautiful. I especially love 'Our gift wish' - you phrased that perfectly. (I'm wishing I'd got you to word ours!)
Katini, I'm feeling your pain re work being busy. Mine's gone haywire (I've been dumped with a load more responsibility plus one of my team left, all within the space of a week – mare!) so I've barely had time to think about the wedding. Which in itself is stressful, as we still have so much to do!
Main wedding stress at the mo: printers still haven't reprinted our invites! We're now waiting on proof number four, which if it isn't perfect is just going to have to do. (It's a quality issue that probably no one would really notice, but as we're paying quite a lot for them I want them right!) Everyone's had save the dates and people have been booking hotel rooms, so I'm not massively worried, but I'd just like to get it off my to do list if nothing else.
Just before work went completely nuts, I ordered the flower girl dresses, and they'll be arriving in a couple of weeks. They look amazing for the price - I'm just hoping they're as good as the pics!
We also took delivery of the men's suits, £71 each from Slaters (with an online 10% discount). They look fab!
I also met with the florist and am really happy with everything she suggested. My bouquet should hopefully look something like this, but more pinky-peach/coral shades rather than yellows, and with peonies in there as well.
The BMs will have smaller versions in cream with hints of coral, and the flowergirl will have a pomander on a ribbon (note the singular: we only have one actual flowergirl, but I've been guilted into buying a matching outfit for her two-year-old sister too, sigh...) Corsage for mother of the groom plus seven buttonholes, and it's all come to about £260. More than we'd budgeted for, but definitely worth it I think.
Anyway, that's it from me really. Next thing (bar the invites!) is my first dress fitting in a couple of weeks. It'll be the first time I've seen it, so am trying to be optimistic that it will look good!
Hope you all have a fun, productive week/weekend. xx0 -
goodness MsShopper, you've been busy!! Love your flowers, they are gorgeous!
Job hunting is going OK - I've had a few interviews but nothing has come of them so far - there's just so much competition, about 6 or 7 people being interviews for each post! Though I did have an interview this morning, that I'm one of 3 people being interviewed - and I want the job SO much! I'm not sure how the interview went, as we hardly talked about the job, or my skills or any of the usual stuff. We spent about half the time talking about Don't Tell The Bride and My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding! And wedding cake! And the woman isn't even getting married! It was all a bit surreal, almost like meeting a friend for coffee (except I've never even met the woman before!). So hopefully she'll decide I'll fit into her team really well, or else she'll be like 'no, never even talked about the job, not having her!'. Will find out next week, one way or the other.0 -
bride2be, that sounds really positive! I do think 'fit' is massively important when hiring, so hopefully she's realised you'll make a brilliant addition to her team. Fingers crossed!
Had the best news today: the printer called and they've FINALLY figured out what caused the problem with our invites. (No apologies for trying to pretend there was nothing wrong with them though, hmph...) So they're reprinting them now and we should get them on Monday. Another weekend envelope-stuffing opportunity missed, but I don't care if we're up half the night, those invites will be going out in Tuesday's post!!
Also booked our 'immediate preparation' appointment with our church for the end of this month, to fill out all the paperwork. Looks like I don't have to get letters of freedom from all the parishes I've lived in, which I know some of you May ladies have to. (Maybe it's because I was baptised there and my family have lived in the parish pretty much the whole time since?)
We still haven't given notice at the registry office, though, which is supposed to be H2B's job. He's promised me faithfully he'll get it sorted by the weekend, but we'll see!0 -
Haven't posted on here for a while. Cant believe its now less than two months for us!
Here is an update of how we're going.
Unfortunately we had some bad news a couple of weeks back, my bride 2 be's father passed away and naturally she was devastated as he was really looking forward to walking his daughter down the aisle.
She is starting to cope with it and obviously the wedding plans are giving her a welcome distraction.
Naturally we are still going ahead and I am sure it will be an even more emotional day.
Everything we need is booked, just needs paying off including the venue.
We have bought posies for the bridesmaids off ebay for £5.99, where as the flower shop wanted £40 each! Also managed to get jars of Lovehearts with our names on which will be put on each table.
Still some invites left to be sent out this weekend!
The venue will be providing place cards and table planner and that is all.
Now to concentrate on my stag do in Edinburgh were we will be playing the Highland Games!

It's great to see our thread getting so much action!
Sounds like you have everything in hand MM. How very sad for your fiancee. As you said, I'm sure it will be a very emotional day. Good luck with the stag planning!
I've got everything crossed for you B2B. As MsShopper said, it's a good sign if you 'clicked' with the interviewer.
What lovely flowers MsShopper. Soon you will be able to join us in the RSVP waiting game. Over 10 days ago I sent out ours, and we've had four RSVPs. Four! Honestly!!! Don't they know I rush home on a daily basis hoping for piles of post?!! Well, I've been sadly disappointed!
We've been very busy both at home and at work but I seem to have my planning second wind and have been cracking on with as much as I can. I've met with our local reverend to organise getting our banns read in our local parish (I didn't like him very much so I'm glad we're marrying elsewhere!), and we went for our menu tasting which was amazing. I got very excited being back at the venue & I'm now really looking forward to the wedding breakfast!
I've done a lot of shopping (eBay/Ikea)! So I now have everything to make a signing frame, stuff to fill and decorate our favour boxes, and I've bought frames for table numbers and a pretty box for guests to put in wishes/advice (I'm doing it like a time capsule so we'll open it and read all the notes on our 5th wedding anniversary). I've made drink stirrers, bought all the gifts, made up CDs for the guests (I've made a music quiz to entertain guests on the drive between church & reception), bought the card/paper to make the Order of Services, ordered our cake from good ol' M&S (used vouchers we've been saving so 3 tiers cost us just £30 :money:!), and I've made up the kids activity bags and started buying sweeties for our sweetie table. Phew, it has been a very busy week.
I'm off to a friend's wedding tomorrow. It'll be very different from ours - it's in a cave! But I've got Monday off work so no doubt I will be doing more wedding projects.
Have a good weekend everyone!0
