Hey everyone, feels like a while since I last posted.
3 weeks Olokia! That's really not long is it?!! I'm in the 26th May club so it is now just under 6 weeks. I'm trying not to think about it too much in case it sends me into a state of panic!
Sounds like you've got everything under control Bride2Be. I bought a bridal basque from Debenhams (when there was 30% off I think!) however since going for my first fitting I decided I am going to be way too hot in the basque and the dress so I'm having cups sewn in to give me some support & *ahem* lift! I've got the matching knickers that came with the basque so I guess I'll just wear those! My final fitting is in 2 weeks and I'm massively panicking that I've put on loads of weight in the last couple of weeks. Back to the gym & diet for me then. Sigh. I'll be glad when it's done and I can go back to eating chocolate without feeling the pressure that I won't fit into the most expensive dress I've ever bought!!!
We've been busy of late. Sunday mornings have been spent attending church services in the parish we live, and in the parish where we are marrying, to hear the reading of our banns. Last one was this morning. And there's no turning back now - no objections were raised - so it's all go!
I went with my sister (and maid of honour) into town on Friday and we've booked her bridesmaid dress in for alterations (which cost more than the actual dress! _pale_) and she bought her shoes.
Then me & OH spent yesterday afternoon putting together the favour boxes which took hours, and made OH quite grumpy (I don't think he likes tying bows!) but they look great!
This afternoon we took a trip to visit my dad and borrow his cash & carry card in order to buy the sweets for our sweetie buffet. It was really difficult trying to ensure we had enough to feed everyone, without having loads left over. I'm still not sure we've judged it correctly and we might be giving away sweets for the next 6 months!
We booked Eurostar and hotel in Paris for our mini-moon a month ago and as we're going early in the morning, we decided to stay in London the night before so we wouldn't have to stress too much in the morning. We booked the Premier Inn nearby but found out this week they re-introduced their saver rate, so I got OH to cancel his booking, then we re-booked with the saver rate, thus saving £50! I also booked megatrain tickets today so it's a grand total of £2.50 for us both - saving about £60 on normal train fare. :money:Yay!
I've also organised cake stand hire, finished my box of gifts for OH, wrapped the other gifts, and handmade cards to give to the special people on the day.
We're meeting with the venue on Wednesday to hand over details and pay the final balance. Writing that cheque is going to be scary !!!
I also need to book a manicure in for the day before, and choose & buy flowergirl shoes. I'm quite enjoying that fact that my spreadsheet list of things to do is getting smaller and smaller!!!0 -
oh thanks Cleverclogs, you've just reminded me to make appointments for my nails etc, so have just Facebook'd my beautician while it's fresh in my mind!
Well have managed to get paper work finished (well, OH needs to sign his...), not ordered my cake topper yet. Will try and do that before bed time!
I also need to find out how much our alterations are going to cost. I dread to think lol!
Have had such a good weekend, I have a serious case of back to work blues for tomorrow...not good, considering this is my first Monday in my new job!!0 -
If it helps Bride2be, it cost me £60 to have my sister's bridesmaid dress taken in. It's got an intricate pattern & beading, and involved having the zip taken off and restitched, which is why it was that much. The dress shop where I bought my dress are taking it up for me, which I think was about £80. Tbh, I'm not sure what is reasonable in terms of alteration cost. I just took my sister's dress somewhere that had been well recommended, as I was more interested in having someone do a good job. How is the new job going?!!0

Hello all!
Its been aaaages since ive been on here and how things have moved on for us all!
Im getting married on 19th May - anyone else in that club?
So, we are pretty much sorted with not much left to do at all now!The invites went out and we have all nearly all the daytime replies, far fewer for the evening but the rsvp date for those isnt until 20th April so im not too worried yet!
The bridesmaids and flower girl dresses and shoes have been bought, the rings are being picked up on Friday, honeymoon paid, DJ, cars, Toast Master all booked and deposits paid (to be paid in full on the day) and we have our final details meeting with the reception venue on Saturday.I honestly cant believe how quickly it has come around and how everything is being nicely ticked off my list!!!
Its all so exciting!!!!!!!!0 -
I can't believe I am down to days to go now.
16 days to go!0 -
wow, 16 days sounds soooo close, I think we're at something like 36!
Well, finally got around to handing in our notice forms this afternoon. Just need to make an appointment a week or 2 before the wedding to go through our choice of readings etc with the registrar.
Am stressing somewhat as I have broken out in a horrid rash all over my face!! Luckily, it's not visible unless you are really up close but I can just feel all these horrible little bumps all over my chin, cheeks and forehead. Haven't changed any products recently, so don't know what had caused it. Last time I had something similair was coz I had a big chocolate binge one easter, but I've been laying off the choccies recently so can't blame that!! It just needs to do one and clear of before the wedding!
Looking forward to a nice chilled out weekend with OH, after having a busy one last weekend and having my hen night next Sat.0 -
well, the nasty rash is still here :-( and has spread onto my neck and behind my ears. Tried taking antihistamines this morning in case it's a reaction to something but didn't make any difference, so I can see a trip to the docs being on the cards on Monday.
Just came to a decision with OH and my dad that we are not going to do formal speeches on the day. Both of them were starting to stress about what to say, and neither of them like public speaking (and neither does the best man - OHs brother). So at the start of the meal, my dad will just get up and thank everyone for coming and that's that! Didn't see the point in everyone stressing over the speeches when there's no need for it.
Does anyone have any pets? What are you doing with them on the day of the wedding? We have a dog, who will be with me at my folks house the night before the wedding, and most of the day of the wedding too (3.30pm ceremony, 5 mins from my folks house). He'll be fine on his own from when we leave for the wedding until my folks come home that evening - but he will need his dinner and a walk afterwards. I did ask a friend (who is coming to the evening part of the wedding) if she could feed/walk him, but unfortunately she can't do it as she has work stuff on right up until our evening reception starts. Only other people I'm close enough to ask will be at the wedding all day.0 -
Only just found this thread, I get married on the 5th of May, two years to the day from when we met, so excited!
Didn't realise how stressful it was going to be and the stress seems to be mounting, the closer it gets.
Still got loads to do and hardly any time to do it, just had my hen night this weekend just gone and it was brilliant, good luck to all the other May bridesStopped smoking Jan 2007 after 23 years!Cigarettes NOT smoked = 240,945Smoke free days = 11 Years :TCash saved so far = £125,45,110 -
Hello ragtimeplayer. I was one of those who originally thought I'd be fairly laidback about this planning lark - but I've actually discovered an inner Bridezilla I never would have dreamt existed! Everyone keeps saying to me that the stress will be worth it in the end. Well, it better do - for everyone's sakes!!!! :rotfl:
16 days sounds incredibly close Olokia. Do you feel like you're on the home straight now or is the panic getting worse? (Just trying to mentally prepare myself for a couple of weeks time!)
I agree with you Bride2Be. Not a whole lot of point in having speeches if it's just going to make everyone uncomfortable. My OH & his BM are both seasoned public speakers but my dad isn't, so he won't be saying anything. I might ask my sister/MOH instead (things have calmed down a bit with her in the last week) but we'll see. Sorry to hear about your rash. I went back on the pill to try and calm down my breakouts but in the last week I've had the appearance of no less than 5 (what can only be described as) boils. Hmph. I'm hoping my skin calms down in the next few weeks. And I'm starting to regret not booking a pro make up artist. Argh.
Most things are done now. I bought a plain postbox on eBay and spent a few hours decorating it yesterday. I bought all the things for the seating plan so I need to do that on Saturday. We've had a final meeting at the reception venue & had to deal with the bombshell that they will be redecorating some of the rooms over the weekend of our wedding. Actually, it's made our lives easier as we were contracted to take 8 bedrooms which we were struggling to fill, so they've let us off that element of the contract as those 8 rooms are the ones being redecorated. Anyway, we've paid the final balance and are now feeling significantly poorer!
Second and final marriage preparation lesson this week and need to pay the church fees. Couple of other final balances also due.
Anyone else getting sick of people saying 'it's not long now!' or 'are you all sorted?' :rotfl:0 -
I feel fine. A couple of weeks ago I was panicking slightly because there seemed a lot to do but most of it is done now so I can now look forward to it.
The only thing I am nervous about is walking down the aisle and speaking in front of people. I hate people watching me and I will be fine once the ceremony is done.0
