Been a couple of weeks since I posted too.
Hi Wanchai, always nice to have a visitor over here!
Update from me:
Having a wedding-activity day today, mid way though writing the invites out and figuring out which addresses we don't have.
Also, my hen do has been organised by my sister. I was quite scared about the prospect of having one as I didn't want to end up in a tutu and us all having matching tshirts, but her plan sounds fun. Tea party (though I suspect it is cocktails rather than tea) and girly day at mine. She lives in London so has sent me out to buy some china for the party, rather than her bringing it up to me (though I suspect she will steal it afterwards!). Found some lovely stuff in a few of the 7 (!) charity shops on my local high street.
B2B-will keep my fingers crossed for your job applications

Thanks wanchai! I adore that design, and it should complement our 1960s/Mad Men theme too.
My first dress was a beaded lace dress: this one. It's a Milly Bridal dress (though I didn't realise that when I ordered it, as it was from a UK seller). I rushed it, and bought it before I really knew what I wanted.
Moneymiser, nice work on haggling! Good luck with the canapes!
Cleverclogs, bride2be and Mazzarati, my OH is just the same. He doesn't understand why I get stressed about wedding stuff – if I fret about any detail, he just reminds me he'd have been happy with a registry office and going to the pub afterwards. Grrr, not helpful!
Clairus, your hen do sounds lovely. I'm getting excited about mine, which I'm leaving to my sister and MoH to organise. It's so nice to not have to worry at all about one aspect of this wedding!
Update from me: well, the other two BMs tried on their dresses yesterday. One is too big – yep, my gorgeous, size 8 little sister is now even tinier, though she says she wants to put some weight back on – and the other fits my OH's sister perfectly. She looked amazing, actually, which made me even more glad that I'm getting a dress I will love too.
Also, we had our menu tasting at the hotel yesterday evening. The food was fantastic, and we're pretty sure that we're going for: baked portabello mushroom to start, then chicken wrapped in prosciutto with shallots and red wine sauce, foliowed by citrus lemon tart. Yum!!0 -
Morning all!
Last week, I posted on here that I wasn't concerned over loosing my job in a few weeks (apart from the lack of money obv!), and I think it's def the right time to be moving on. Yesterday, for the first time in so, so long, I didn't get the back to work blues - normally I am a nightmare on a Sunday evening, all coz I don't want to go to the office in the morning - well, didn't happen last night, coz I knew I don't have many Monday's left there! I've decided that I'm just going to apply for any job at the moment, rather than a 'career' type post, as I don't really know what I want to do. So will be cracking on with more job applications today, wish me luck!
Wedding wise, we are going to see our venue tonight, so that's very exciting - and a bit scary, we are hoping they will let us reduce our numbers slightly, as we want to cut back in light of my job situation. Also will be deciding on menu choices etc.
My VW camper print (that we are using instead of a guest book) arrived on Saturday - it's a bit smaller than I thought, was so disappointed at first, but by the time it's in a mount and frame, it will be fine.
OH fell out with his mum last night on the phone, as she can't keep her nose out of anything! OH is having his eldest brother as best man. His brother has three kids, although he is separated from their mum and has a new partner. The kids aren't overly sure of his new partner yet, so he was talking about the wedding plans to his ex wife (they are still on good terms for the kids sake). She suggested she brings the kids up and they'll stay at a near by Travelodge and she'll do her own thing while the kids are at the wedding, and pick them up in the evening (like 10, 10.30pm). Sounded like a plan to everyone - kids don't have to stay in hotel with their dad's new partner, OHs brother can have a few drinks once kids are away. But MIL2B doesn't like this, thinks the ex-wife is being awkward and doesn't trust their dad to look after kids. Then starts that if it was her (the ex wifes) side of the family, the kids would be allowed up as long as they like, wouldn't be any issues etc. But there isn't any issues just now, except the ones she is creating! AGH!! All that matters really is the kids are happy with the situation, which they are!
Oh, and she still won't let up over what tartan everyone is wearing! Her and one of OHs SIL's have both decided that everyone should be in the same tartan - it's not your bl***y choice!! OH wants him and Best Man to be the same, and everyone else in something different. So now OH has decided he is going to hire a kilt in a tartan local to us, so that anyone who wants the same as him will have to hire it when they come up here (we live about 2 hours from most of his family), and he recons no-one will be bothered with the hassle! Though he has told his mum he's no longer wearing the kilt and will be turning up in his work clothes (think steel toe cap boots and luminous jacket!).:rotfl:
This weekends visit to the in-laws should be fun...0 -
What a flurry of activity! I hope everyone managed to complete everything they wanted over the weekend.
The food sounds lovely MsShopper! Our menu tasting is at the beginning of March. I am very excited. I like food!
Oh B2B, I don't know what is wrong with families when it comes to weddings. It sounds like a good plan to me to have your BIL2B's ex come and get the kids. In fact, my sister was talking about doing something similar with her ex-husband and the children in the evening! Good luck with the visit this weekend. I hope it isn't too tense!
We had our first meeting at our church at the weekend. It was a big group of all the couples who are getting married in the church this year. It felt a little bit like a sales pitch as they had the choir, the organist, the soloist singer and the florist all there to 'pitch' their wares! It worked though, and we booked the organist & soloist. I now need to decide whether to go with the church florist (and at £28 a pedestal - this is tempting!) or whether we need flowers to go on to our reception venue, so I'll have to get our outside florist to do them at £60 a pop. Hmmm, decisions...
We have to go to two scheduled wedding preparation lessons with the Reverend to sort out the order of service, legal details, vows etc (first in March, second in April) and then a rehearsal a week before the wedding. We filled in our banns application which made it all feel very real! And now we have to start thinking about hymns and entrance/exit/signing the register music...!0 -
It doesn't feel real that in 3 months, 1 day and 3 hours, I will be married.
Half of the guests have RSVP'd and most are coming so looks like the 2nd and 3rd group of people probably won't be coming to the day.
Hair and makeup is sorted and the dress looks like it won't need to be altered but I am going to get a second opinion.
I can't believe that most of it is done already. Just need to buy small things like underwear and bridesmaid gifts.
I've got this fear that I will realise on the day that I have forgotten something big and it will be too late to sort it.0 -
Thanks CleverClogs, feel a lot better knowing I'm not the only one having a bit of a wobbly. To be fair on H2B not all of the stress comes from his actions (( or lack thereof ), there have been probate issues holding up the final decision on venue which have added to the emotional side of things for me, it hasn't been easy seeing what was always a very close extended family on my side torn apart, I'm just lucky that I wasn't more directly involved in that side of things.) he's just not been as much help as I would like.0

just back from a lovely evening at our venue! Made our menu choices, sorted out small details like where the cake table will go, and best of all they were really understanding about my job situation and have allowed us to cut numbers without any penalty, woo hoo! (they also have a job I'm applying for as well!).0

this thread's been a bit quiet this week, how is everyone doing, hope all the plans are coming along fine!
Just got an email from the lady doing our invites to say our proofs should be ready over the weekend, so that's exciting, should hopefully get them in the next week or two! I'm doing RSVP cards myself so need to get cracking on with those, and finish our wedding website too. Can't wait to get the invites sent out and start getting the RSVP's back so I can get on with our seating plan!
Also (finally!) phoned my mum's friend who is doing our cake, and emailed her some pics of the kind of thing we'd like, but not heard back from her yet. My mum might be seeing her on Sunday, so fingers crossed she will.
Need to chase up the bridal shop for our shoes, we ordered them over 2 weeks ago and they said week to 10 days and not heard anything yet, need them to sort our alteration on the dresses.
Away to the future in-laws this weekend, so that should be fun
And things are looking up a bit on the job front, two interviews next week, so please keep your fingers crossed for me!0 -
:jbride2be2012 for sorting the menu. Good luck with all the job interviews.Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.0

It has been a bit quiet! I don't know about everyone else but work is particularly manic at the moment with the end of the financial year so lots to do, which has been keeping my mind occupied with things other than the wedding.
Good luck with the in-laws this weekend B2B and lots of luck with the interviews next week. What food did you go for after your tasting?!!
I've managed to do a few crafty bits this week. I've made a mock-up of our favour boxes and am in the process of creating the gift tags which will serve as place names, and will also have everyone's menu choices noted on the back (as everyone always forgets what food they pre-ordered!). I've had parcels arriving all the time full of my eBay purchases which has been exciting for me - and probably exhausting for my postman!
I'm putting together a box of little gifts for my OH to open the night before and I now have socks, cufflinks and a pocketwatch. I'm starting on a scrapbook this weekend (as he's away) with some notes and pics from our relationship so far.
I've also had some tiara drama this week (try saying that quickly!). I had two in mind - Tiara 1 was very pretty & elegant, Tiara 2 very princessy & sparkly. I favoured Tiara 2 but I thought it might be a bit OTT so I asked my sister for her opinion. She convinced me that tiara 1 was the one so I ordered it. It arrived this week and it is lovely. But I was still a bit disappointed. After wearing it around the house for a bit, I'm still not sure, so I've now ordered tiara 2! Neither were very expensive (good ol' eBay) so I don't feel too guilty, but realise this isn't very MSE of me! Hoping I can make up my mnd properly when I have both to choose from and I'll put the un-chosen one back on eBay when I've made a decision...:)0
