Are you far from the exchange you probably using BT network

I don't "think" I am far from the exchange.

I was BT, now I pay my line rental to Talk Talk (but the box/equipment hasn't been changed).

    ADSL:Yes

    BT Wholesale information
    ADSL status:Enabled as of 24/09/2003
ADSL Max status:Enabled as of 31/03/2006

    Everything else has read crosses.

The exchange is the same name as my village, I guess that means its in the village:o

ETA - saw this at the bottom

    Ofcom Classification What is this?

    Market 2
Two or three 'principal' operators provide broadband services at this exchange
  • I sometimes get 0.5 but that is as good as it gets, I live in a village and yes it is on a BT ADSL line.

Was with Tesco for a long time at similar speeds and moved to an all in package with Talk Talk (so far so good) and now its

Isn't it the distance to the exchange not the server which is important. Anyway deep in the crowded South East it must be near a record!

Another great tool is the ThinkBroadband Maps app.
Not only showing your location/local exchange, but also any TBB speed test results from your area - using it I can see someone about 300yds closer to the exchange than me is getting about 5mbs less than me...either a bad day, bad wiring, or AOL to blame for that one :)

Just be thankful you aren't in France, we only get 232Kbps download and 129 Kbps upload. Many friends don't even get this and have to use dialup.

My download speed is about the only thing I've ever been happy with, with Tiscali. So glad I didn't let them switch me over to the TalkTalk packages!

My first attempt at this so if it works it'll be a miracle!

    speedtestcopy.jpg

woohoo it worked, I've learnt something new today!

How can your download speed be a fraction of your upload speed?! I thought that ADSL connections would always have a higher download rate...
  • im with tescos and they do severe throttling after 5pm can teven use xbox live anymore

they throttle it back to about 0.3m/bit and we pay for 1m/bit they are rubbish but they are running with virgin and i thought they were meant to be good

i thought they only throttle p2p packets but it appears they do they lot cant even watch i player or you tube as it has to buffer for a week. my ping on the xbox goes way up above 180/ms

i get a far high upload than down load once the throttling begins
